Because the non believers question about why God doesn’t cure amputees is true. If He did, we’d all witness a miracle that couldn’t be explained in any other way - not spontaneous remission, the illness having run it’s course, or some medical explanation scientists haven’t yet found the answer to.
With the advances of medical science since the time the writers put into words the things they understood about Jesus, which miracles are there from the bible that can not be given a natural explaination?
And for extra credit, how many miracles were credited to this Jesus for things never written about or known about at the time of Jesus on earth?

The resuscitation of Lazarus after four days in death, for one.

In all other situations, some natural illness remitting on its own could be attributed, including suspended animation (the other returns from death). But once someone has been nonbreathing and skin cold, etc, for four days, they are gone, full stop.

Jesus healing the ear that had been cut off defies a natural explanation. IF He restored body parts on lepers who’d lost them due to their illness, which the Bible doesn’t say but implies it happened by saying Jesus made them, and the “maimed whole,” that would be unexplainable of a natural event.

Agreed.

Of course, and so can I, but remission of illness owing to failure of body organs or senses or even brain damage can be attributed to natural processes (provided the organs, etc, remain in the body).

Once a limb is off the body (or the eye is out of the head, etc) no healing is naturally possible, therefore if it occurred it would be an indubitable miracle.

Padre Pio is credited with resorting a severely injured eye that was described by some to have been entirely “blown out,” and described by others as blood and gel remained but the rest was blown out. If his injuries left no part of the eye needed to see intact, that would be a miracle.
Also, there’s a girl who was born without pupils who Padre Pio interceded and God gave her vision.

Could you give me some context to the verses you allude to regarding the maimed whole, because I am wondering if you are or could be describing what I see each time I go to Mass.

Credited by what authority? The same one that told him to stop what he was doing? Or another one?

One I just read was Matthew 30:31

30 and the great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those who were lame, blind, dumb, maimed and others and cast them down at Jesus’ feet and He healed them.

31 Insomuch as the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb speak, the maimed
to be whole, the lame to walk and the blind to see and they glorified the God of Israel.

Who told him to stop doing what he was doing?
I thought the people involved in the canonization process have accepted these events as miraculous. No?

Was there not a period of time where the Church stepped into his affairs and took them over?

I could be wrong, Memory seems to be blurry but clear enough to remember how the Church stepped in to take over his business affairs,.

I’m not sure. Maybe there’s someone else reading this who knows.

Okay forget what I said about lepers. I just read about leprosy and the belief they lost body parts due to the disease is a myth.
Still. The disease was incurable in Biblical times and Jesus did heal them instantly, which is a miracle even if He didn’t restore their body parts.

I ‘died’ in August 2010–my heart stopped, kidneys failed, and I stopped breathing. My doctors told my family there was no hope, but I did go to Heaven and God told me that it was not my time because He still has work for me to do. The doctors revived me. After several weeks in a coma, I did come back after my brother-in-law prayed over me. Does that count as a miracle? I think so.

No one is willing to step up and tell you what happened?

What a shame.

This board has a search feature. I would use it, and compare it with my own research.

It seems that the miracle industry that Pardre had going got the attention of the Vatican.

Which one wouldn’t if it brought in enough change?

Are you talking about allegations Padre Pio was a fraud?

I’ve noticed that there are few Scriptures that say Jesus and the Apostle regrew body parts, too. With the exception of some translations saying that the maimed and lepers were made whole and the Scripture about Jesus restoring an ear that had been cut off.

Some commentaries I’ve been reading online say that Jesus regrew he ear while others said he miraculously sewn it on. Did the ear grow back or did Jesus stick it back on?

Scripture doesn’t say.

But while modern science can reattach such an appendage; for our LORD’s day, either was equally miraculous.

Very true, either is miraculous but I’m looking for something that says that someone had a body part regrown. I have a two volume set of books called Miracles, written by Craig Keener, where a few instances are mentioned but I don’t know if they’re genuine.

I also read about a preacher, Smith Wigglesworth, whose prayers prompted God to regrow legs on a man. Again, not sure if it really happened or not.
