Does the Missa Cantata have a mandated rubrics guide that we are to follow, similar to that of the GIRM?

I’m wondering because I’ve found conflicting guides for serving the Missa Cantata. For example, the parish where I served High Mass for the first time -see other thread- seems to do things differently than what SanctaMissa.org shows. And its not just this parish. The one in our diocese that has been hosting the Tridentine Mass for a LONG time is the model that we’re using for our High Mass.

Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about, our High Mass uses 2 acolytes for the prayers at the foot of the altar. A Youtube video of a Missa Cantata from France shows the Master of Ceremonies at the foot of the altar with the priest.

Are these just cultural and local custom differences?

Any mandated guide?

The “Ceremonies of the Roman Rite” by Fortescue and O’Connel contains all the rubrics for the Missa Cantata. There are actually two forms of it, one that is a more solemn form that has an MC, Thurifer, Crucifer, Acolytes and torch bearers and one simpler form that uses two servers only- it is almost identical to Low Mass…chant may or may not be used.

might i suggest here:

sanctamissa.org/en/index.html

this sight is hosted by the Canons Regular of St John Cantius. its mission is completely education on the TLM. you will find a plethora of learning tools here.

i also serve at our TLM. we use two acolytes for low Mass; for high Mass, it’s two acolytes, crucifer, thurifer, and MC, and, if enough servers are available, the addition of a supernumerary.

cheers
