Missing confession/not taking Communion

Confession in our parish is tomorrow at 3:30. I have made plans tomorrow at 3:30, so I am unable to attend Confession.

I was wondering if there is anything wrong with not going to confession, not taking Communion at mass on Sunday, and then going to confession next Saturday (which is all the better, since I don’t want to confess to this week’s Priest!)

As long as you dont recieve Communion, you dont incur any further sin by not attending Confession.

i know whay you mean about certain Priests, i mean i know they have a vow of silence, but i have met with most of them in my area at least once to talk about vocations, so its wierd to confess my sins to them

I kind of think about weird things sometimes. But how weird is it be to be the Pope’s confessor. I mean, it’s not like the Pope can ever be anonymous or anything…

You won’t be incurring any further sin as long as you don’t receive. But boy…that’s tough on me! I started going to daily Mass and knowing that I need to go to confession on Saturday I haven’t received the sacrament. I was almost in tears this morning because I wanted to so badly. I think this might inspire me to think twice before committing another mortal sin!

Thanks everyone. I didn’t know if I was obligated to make an appointment before then, or not. I was happy actually, that they were at the same time, because the Priest is a friend of mine, and has known me since 1st grade. I don’t really like confessing to him, because he knows me/my voice. Luckily, he is out of tiwn next Saturday

Sometimes going to confession to a friend is really good. My confessor is a good friend and I would prefer going to him over someone who I didn’t know. I guess it is just a preference. He knows me so well, and that’s IS the good part of it.

If you need confession now (mortal sin) and don’t confess because you don’t like the priest, that could get to be problematic. if you are not in mortal sin you can receive communion w/o confession. get over the hang-up about the priest and confession, it is still a sacrament no matter who you confess to, and priests do not have time, inclination or ability to run around thinking about the people they know and see in confession and ruminating on what they have confessed.

Yes, I agree. However, as I said, I do have plans when confession starts. I just wanted to know if it was vital and I had to set up a private confession, or if I could just wait until next week.

Since you would confess to Christ, and Christ is present in the person of the priest, why not? It can’t be as embarrassing as some things I have confessed. The priest goes to confession. Why not you?

You are required, at a minimum, to receive communion once per year, but to attend mass weekly. Since the Eucharist is Christ, wouldn’t you do anything good to receive him? Even humble yourself in confession? Remember: the evil one wants you to put off confession for as long as possible. As long as your sin weakens you, the evil one has a chance.

I understand that last part a lot. I’ve talked to one of the priests here about vocations so now I feel kind of odd having to confess to him. Plus I was just baptized less than a month ago. I am not sure if what I did needs confessing.

Always good to err on the side of caution when it comes to confession.

Besides which, the confessional is one of the best places to bring up such concerns (ie whether something is a grave sin or not) for future reference, since you can lay the circumstances before the priest. It always helps me when I do so.

True but the hardest part for me is figuring out if it’s an actual mortal sin. We haven’t really gone over mortal sin in detail yet. I don’t want tgo waste the priest time since it’s such a short amount of time set aside for confession on Saturday. I got home too late to go to confession today and probably won’t go to my confession at my church. I think it would be kind of disappointing that I’ve messed up so soon after baptism.

I do plan on going. I was either going to wait until the priest I talk to normally comes back or ask someone that goes to the church I plan on going to to make a confession about the priests there. But do you think it would be best to not take communion until after it’s solved? It’s my first confession so it makes me nervous.
