Crazy story. Apparently the priest was trying to raise money by setting the record for the longest duration flight hanging under “party” balloons.
I don’t know what the “record” is but there was a similar incident years ago in the Los Angeles area. Some young man attached some helium balloons to a standard aluminum and plastic lawn chair after loading up with some high altitude necessities…work boots and a jacket for the cold…a pellet pistol for adjusting altitude and climb rate…off he went. Airliners were reporting him as they prepared for landing at LAX but I think he went much higher than that before he came down near some high voltage wires miles and miles away. How he escaped with his life I don’t remember reading but I would have thought that a priest’s Bishop would have put a stop to this adventure. 🤷

Well, it seems the Priest wasn’t an amatuer and was somewhat prepared himself, even having had one similar flight before this.

"De Carli, who has taken jungle survival and mountain climbing courses, was carrying enough drinking water and cereal bars to stay alive for at least five days, according to Coelho. An experienced skydiver, he also had a GPS device, a satellite phone and a buoyant chair with him.

The priest embarked on a similar adventure on Jan. 13, when he used 600 balloons to carry him on a four-hour, 5,300-meter-high (17,390-foot-high) voyage from the town of Ampere to neighboring Argentina, where he landed safely."

Hopefully, they find him alive :signofcross:

I think its a horrible thing for a priest to die like this. Honestly I think he drowned by now. Its been so long. At-least we can be pretty sure hes in heaven.
