You never make mistakes when you speak
despite not enduring campaign fatigue?

Jim
All the more reason he shouldn’t be in the white house. We need somebody who is more reliable and thinks we don’t have 57 states.

Oh and if you want to talk about gaffs, lets do it in the context of the thread.

How about Romney’s gaff’s in Europe during the Olympics, and not to mention a most serious reigniting the cold war between Russia and the USA.

Jim
I don’t think Romney made in gaffes in Europe.

Either we stand up to Russia or they will walk all over us. Vladmir Putin is a leader who means business and is currently the most powerful person on this planet.

If Obama gets re-elected there will be war alright, and it won’t be a cold one by any means.

Those were just honest mistakes…of course, one involved a very powerful military power…no problem.

Right, Romney insults the British, then threatens Russian with the promise of military weapons in Poland.

Do know that George H.W, Bush had an agreement with Gorbechov, that if he pulled Soviet troops out of the eastern block states, we wouldn’t aid those states with military weapons?

Imagine Putin telling Cuba that he’ll provide them with defense missiles.

Jim

I understand. But when you study how civilizations on this planet work over the last 12,000 years or so, you notice certain patterns.

Even among the most organized and militarily powerful regimes, it’s often really stupid things that bring them down.

Kind of like watching a dominant sports team choke when its all on the line.

There is some wisdom in the bigger you are, the harder you fall.

Most people don’t realize that.

In this country, the remaining Founding Fathers in the early nineteenth century as well as other constitutional philosophers joked about how ignorant the American public was about the Constitution.

Even after signing it, Franklin quipped “We made a republic. Provided you can keep it.”

So I guess the fact that** people** in this country** don’t get that government pretty much always makes things worse even with good intentions** doesn’t surprise me. I’m just upset that I’m tied into it, and if the states had the power today they had at the signing of the Constitution, I could just move ,but its not that simple anymore.

Jefferson said:

A government big enough to give you everything you need is also big enough to take away everything you have.
This is all true.

But since I’m in CATHOLIC ANSWERS FORUMS, I’m thinking about the response of Catholics to the way they’re being treated.

And I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE that so many Catholics are more loyal to the Democrat party than they are to their the Church they profess to belong to???

Are you Democrats first?

Maybe they don’t realize that they’re GOING TO PAY FINES TO THE GOVERNMENT???

Right, but the 57 state gaff Obama made, makes him unqualified to be president, despite his predecessor having more embarrassing gaffs than any president in history.

Jim

Interesting.

When Michele Bachmann made a mistake, the media tried to indirectly set her up to debate a 16 year old high schooler.

A JD Law degree against a teenager. I’ll bet none of her teachers even had that.

Why wasn’t “campaign fatigue” mentioned here?

The list of things that make Obama unqualified is huge, and this is only one of them, Jim. You know that.

The ECONOMY Is #1. He hasn’t managed it. We still have over 8% unemployment.

Obamacare. And particularly since I’m in CATHOLIC ANSWERS FORUMS, this should be important. The Democratic party has ATTACKED the Catholic Church directly and viciously. This doesn’t mean anything to you? 🤷

Will it mean something to you when your parish priest starts having to pay fines and go without health insurance? 🤷

Do you really think that the orders you are affliated with are going to pay for abortion as its bundled into the insurance that they will be mandated to buy by the federal government? Or will they opt for the fines? I’m curious.

Well, look at it like this:

A lot of those Catholics are probably getting something from government. In their mind, the ends justify the means.

A lot of them are democrats first.

The Gospel tells us that love of money is the root of all evil.

How appropriate. These individuals (I’m not talking about people whose lives depend on it) would rather get a share of the pie of someone else’s labour than defend the faith.

All I can say is follow the money and you’ll see its not just Catholics.

The old, the sky is falling argument. Sorry, heard it too many times.

Well, SuperLuigi,
Right now I’m not talking about everyone else. I’m asking what Catholics think this means to them. And I’m wondering where we go from here.

Mitt Romney Says Russia Is No. 1 Geopolitical Foe
SAN DIEGO — Mitt Romney said today that Russia — not Iran or North Korea — is the United States’ “number one geopolitical foe,” adding that Russia “always stands up for the world’s worst actors.” abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/mitt-romney-says-russia-is-no-1-geopolitical-foe/
I’d rather have a president who makes gaffs due to campaign fatigue, than one who is serious about statements like Romney made above.

This is dangerous.

Accidentally saying 57 states instead of 47, which Obama meant, doesn’t even compare.

Jim

Not really, John. These things have been written into law, and they’ve survived a Supreme Court test.

Rather like the whole abortion thing in 1973. Remember that? Make light of it if you want, but it really is the law. And abortion on demand is really legal.

In like manner, the Catholic Church really is going to pay fines. Big fines. And they’re going to come out of the collection plate and cost programs and orders and seminaries, catholic colleges and schools a lot of money. It’s going to be coming out of Catholics’ pockets, those that are still Catholic when this goes on for a few years.

No doubt,

Jim,
You’d rather talk about gaffes than whether the orders you are affiliated with will pay the fines? I"m seriously curious: Do you think they will pay the fines or buy the insurance? Will the nuns pay for abortion indirectly by buying insurance that covers it?

[Up til now, my understanding is that they’ve been group insured as most dioceses in the US have been. That all becomes illegal in about 2014, I believe. So what happens?]

Romney and Polish Missiles
Sep3 by Jadehawk
Last week at the RNC, towards the end of a speech filled with ********, Romney produced this line:
Code:
He abandoned our friends in Poland by walking away from our missile defense commitments, but is eager to give Russia’s President Putin the flexibility he desires, after the election.
This is spoken from ignorance, not knowing the agreement the US made with the former Soviet Union, about not placing missiles along their borders.
