I have been having a long conversation with my dad about the Bible. I am a new convert, he is baptist. well, at least I thought he was. he has been giving me his problems with the Catholic church, mainly we are too much like Judism. we mix the old test with the new test. I have tried to do my best at pointing out the our scriptual backing on these points. what I need is a straight forward refute to his claim of a new religion that formed in the 1st chapter of Romans. I know this is a whacky interputation. but he says, the jews are left out of this new religion. others from the forums here have said he is using a dispensationalist point of view?? please any help would make my day.

The oldtesatment and the new testament are distinctions of the two covenants. The old testament is mainly of the laws at which God set up through Moses. The New testament is a switch between the cannical laws of Moses but to the everlasting convenent with Gods son.
Once you read the transfiguration of the Glory of Jesus you have one of the disciples exclaim: It is good that we are here shall we give one tennant to Eliziah and to moses and to you? Then a cloud came and fear struck the discples and the voice in the cloud said this is my beloved son LIsten to him. Elizah and Moses both refer to the old testaments. Moses symbloizes the law and Elizah the prohets.
The father tells the disciples that the old convent which God set up in the laws are obsolte and that we should know look to Jesus his son who holds the everlasting and better convent his sacrfice upon the cross. The new law that christs gives is this: To love God with all your hear, you soul, and mind and to love your neigbor as your self. Love covers a multitude of sins.
To interwin the old and the new testaments as supposed to teaching and correction are fine but don’t look at the laws as means of our salvation. For salvation only comes through Jesus Christ which is the new and everlasting covenant.
When reading the old testament and the new testament by the Holy spirit revealing scripture to us tells the hidden teachings about Christ. Everything that was done in the OT was and is referenced back to Christ. Making the NT all the more exciting and all the more thankful for God and his Son.
Beginning with moses and even the prophets down to the holy of holies all reflected Christ and his mission as High priest.
