Who are the modern catholic philosophers or theologians?

What are modern discussions in theology on or What is the content?

What are the best books or papers by these people?

Are there things that they disagree on?

I do not usually go into this section of the forum but wanted to know your opinions. I don’t know any modern theologians even from the protestant realm.

May you bless God

I recommend Edward Feser, a modern philosopher in the tradition of St. Thomas Aquinas. He has a blog: edwardfeser.blogspot.ca/He describes himself there:
I am a writer and philosopher living in Los Angeles. I teach philosophy at Pasadena City College. My primary academic research interests are in the philosophy of mind, moral and political philosophy, and philosophy of religion. I also write on politics, from a conservative point of view; and on religion, from a traditional Roman Catholic perspective.
I think that everybody should read his book, The Last Superstition. Even if you don’t normally like philosophy, you will probably appreciate it. It is an engaging and entertaining critique of the intellectual poverty of the New Atheist movement. It is also a celebration of the Catholic intellectual tradition.

He is also known for his introduction to the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. I frequently see it recommended as the starting place for understanding Catholic philosophy.

Yes, I’m a fan.🙂

I was having difficulty coming up with how to answer your question about theology. Then it came to me that a good starting place is the two theology journals Communio and Concilium. Just reading through the Wikipedia article brings together some of the names and issues.
Communio is a federation of theological journals, founded in 1972 by Joseph Ratzinger, Hans Urs von Balthasar, Henri de Lubac, Walter Kasper, Marc Ouellet, Louis Bouyer and others. Communio, now published in fifteen editions (German, English, Spanish and many others), has become one of the most important journals of Catholic thought. The journals are independently edited, but also publish translations of each other’s articles.
It is often considered to be the sister publication and theological rival to the journal Concilium, which was founded in 1965 by modernist theologians such as Rahner and Kung, intending to keep the “Spirit of Vatican II” in the Church after the sessions had ended and the Council fathers returned to their respective dioceses. That journal was founded by Johann Baptist Metz, Anton van den Boogaard, Paul Brand (theologian), Marie-Dominique Chenu, Yves Congar, Karl Rahner, Edward Schillebeeckx, and Hans Küng.[1]
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communio You can probably get a good overview just from following the links from this article.

In my mind, the most brilliant living theologian is Benedict XVI. Read his trilogy on Jesus of Nazareth and his typical brilliance is clearly demonstrated.

How about HH Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI? Just about everything he has written is brilliant. Truly one of the intellectual giants of our time.

Philosophers:
JP II, Alice von Hildebrand, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross

Theologians:
Benedict XVI, Hans Urs von Balthazar, Henri de Lubac,
