Not only have the Church buildings been stripped of tradition, but also, our Altars have been stripped of tradition as well. This is a sad truth, that I hope to see changed. Why is it that every time a Catholic church is shown in a movie or television show it is never a Vatican II design? It seems like everyone who isn’t a Catholic associates the church with old, beautiful, inspired buildings (a true house of the lord!) but for some reason there are more modern buildings than traditional.
Will there ever come a time when VII designs are re-remodeled to look like a real Catholic church?
How are things in Europe? Have the churches there been stripped of tradition as well?
It’s in Vienna, Austria.A cube? where is that located???
There is no longer any obligation to attend the parish closest to you. You should attend the parish that is the best spiritually for you. Sometimes good churches are few and far between, and some people will drive for over an hour to get to Mass, especially if they are looking for a Tridentine Mass (Mass in Latin using the pre-Vatican II ritual). There’s nothing wrong with this. I was received into the Church in a parish in another town from where we lived - passing by or near at least four Catholic churches on the way there - and after I switched to the Byzantine rite I have been driving an hour and fifteen minutes to get to Liturgy, although I live across the parking lot from a very beautiful Gothic church. Don’t worry about doing this; this sort of thing is perfectly fine and often even encouraged. There is a real Church just a few miles down the road, but it’s not the one closest to my house so I can’t rightly attend![]()
The first part is exactly how the second parish I mentioned looks like.Modern or contemporary would not be bad *if it drew on antecedents. *I think we’re getting back to that, seeing newer churches with clean lines, but those lines follow the traditional paths, as it were. The style that I regard as most pleasing is the mission style, from the old Missions of California. That should have been used, IMHO, for the new cathedrals in Los Angeles and Oakland, CA. They weren’t, unfortunately. And the cathedral in San Francisco looks like the agitator in a washing machine.
Actually, that’s the Pelagian heresy, not Catholic teaching. Study up before you misrepresent us, please.Roman Catholic Doctrine Vs. The Doctrinal Teaching of the Word of God
Eternal life is a merited reward [1821, 2010]. - Roman Catholicism
As taught by the Council of Trent and the constant teaching of the Catholic Church.Eternal life is the free gift of God (Romans 6:23)
We do know that we have eternal life through the grace of Christ. What we don’t know infallibly is whether we are in the state of grace or not, or whether we will persevere in grace until the end of our lives. We are still free to sin.No one can know if he will attain eternal life [1036, 2005] - Roman Catholicism
The believer can know that he has eternal life by the Word of God (1 John 5:13)
And what do you think the Catholic Church is but the Body of Christ? How are these two statements incompatible when they imply each other? The Roman Catholic Church is necessary for salvation [846]. - Roman Catholicism
There is salvation in no one but the Lord Jesus Christ, “for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12)
He atoned for our sins (“making purgation of sins”) - but that does not mean that these merits have been applied to us fully. Are you a sinner, or are you completely perfect and free from all attachment to sin? If the latter, then you have no need for purgatory. I for my part am a sinner - and frankly, so are you.Purgatory is necessary to atone for sin and clean the soul [1030-1031]. - Roman Catholicism
Purgatory does not exist. Jesus made purification for sins on the cross (Hebrews 1:3)
“Wherefore as by one man sin entered into this world, and by sin death; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned.”Mary was preserved from all stain of original sin from the first instant of her conception (the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception) [490-492].
Mary, a descendant of Adam, was born in sin (Psalm 51:5; Romans 5:12)
That is indeed a lovely church ON THE OUTSIDE. I only hope it looks just as reverent and beautiful on THE INSIDE.Here is the main church in Ave Maria, Florida. It was built a few years ago.
