Serap,

Super cute suits! I think that is a fabulous way to set an example for your daughter. I was just having a conversation about swim suits with one of my dds the other day. Thankfully she is looking at the suits with tankini top and cute little skirt bottom, hope she’ll do that a while longer! 😉 Whew!

If you go to the on-line store (I gave the name of earlier), they have some fabulous young and sexy looking ones that any teenage girl would be proud to wear. I was very surprised! They are young, cute, sexy and very original. The sizes are European, so I had to order an XL which is really a size 8 in North America. I am very tall, so I need the bigger size.

These bathing suits are made for young people. You can tell by the styles. I read an article recently that these new fashionable swimdresses are all the rage in Europe. What’s great about them is that you can walk around in them; go to the resort buffet or walk around if you’re on vacation without feeling like you need to go back to your hotel room and change into shorts and a t-shirt.

I don’t know if “too modest” are the words I would use. As others have said, if you like it - that’s all that counts. To each her own is my opnion. I would feel ridiculous wearing it though. It’s not my style at all. I grew up in Florida wearing shorts year round. Now that I live where there are four seasons, I can hardly WAIT for summer so I can break out my shorts & swimsuits.

Serap ~ I think the suits you picked are adorable. I might wear those, although I am not so keen on showing my upper thighs in the back. And that’s the problem I have with one pieces… unless the skirt is REALLY long, I feel like my rear end is hanging out. And if the skirt is REALLY long, I feel silly.

My suits look like this:

The top:

The bottoms: (although these are a few inches longer than I like)

I like the turquoise.

I feel “cute” in my bathing suit. It’s the look I go for.
Very cute styles you wear!

I love them!

A few years back, when the short-bottom suits got popular, I was SOOOOO excited! I said "I’ll never have to worry about my bottom hanging out ever again!!! 😃

I like the swim dresses too, because they also hide any tummy bulge that may be left over from pregnancies!

The one thing I will say in defense of bikinis though, is that my 2 beautiful 20-something nieces wear them and they are very devout, very good girls. They have beautiful figures and I don’t think the worse of them at all for wearing their bikinis.

*Dear Liza and Serap,

I take it then that you do not have a problem with some one wearing a bikini?

I am beginning to think it has to do with more than just a feeling of what I am comfortable in. What matters most to me is what God thinks. Not necessarily what others think. But I believe others can help me to understand what God thinks so that is why I ask for (name removed by moderator)ut.
I don’t think that there is anything wrong with a woman wearing a bikini per se as long as it is modest and all the right places are hidden. I hate those sleazy bikinis that are just saying, “Come have sex with me.”

A one piece can be more immodest than a nice bikini IMO.

I personally would rather my daughter didn’t wear a bikini and that’s why I am now trying to set an example with my sexy swimdresses. I would want her to be respected and admired, not seen as a piece of meat.

I am blessed with a very attractive physical appearance and it was a blessing as much as it was a bad thing for me. Men were always lurking at me…they still do now, but they know I’m accounted for especially when they see me with my kids 🙂 I think my daughter is also going to be very attractive, so I want to ingrain those values into her now about modesty and self-respect b/c it’s very easy to fall into a trap of enjoying the attention from men and dressing sexy to get more attention.

That was not the question you asked. You specifically asked about your own suit – that is what I responded to. :ehh:

I don’t think bikinis are a good idea - but I’m not about to turn someone else’s thread into a bikini debate.

I don’t think teenagers should try to look sexy:o

*Dear Serap,

I so agree with what you say here but I would use the word dignity. What makes me wonder about this choice is why are we trying to instill these values with a **sexy *swimdress.
Maybe it’s just me but it just reads like an oxymoron.

*Dear Liza,

I know that you were responding to my question.
I am just questioning if your answer could be used for someone who believes a bikini is modest.

No I am not trying to turn this into a bikini debate. I am just wondering at what point a swimsuit becomes immodest.*

When I say sexy, I mean cute and fashionable; feminine, but modest. When I say sexy, I am talking about it like a slang word for “cute”. Take out all my “sexy” words and replace them with “cute” and you have what I really mean.

some people may think that my swimdresses are immodest. it’s all relative to the person’s own perception of what God wants of them.

(if they are religious of course)

I think my swimdresses are cute and fashionable and it’s a great compromise between baggy shorts and a t-shirt and a bikini.

I still like the one with blue flowers on it! 😃

i don’t like how ‘sexy’ is being used as a word to describe how you and your daughters should dress – reall, if you want to look cute, say that – i’m not trying to be nasty or anything, but ‘sexy’ and ‘cute’ are way different in meaning and what a male thinks when he sees a sexy outfit or suit as opposed to a cute outfit or suit is way different. blurring the line is confusing and not helpful in speech or action.

i like swim dresses too, but those do show a lot of breasts, i think. i like more top coverage than is ‘sexy’.

I don’t think they show a lot of breast. Remember that in modelling pics they always push up the boobs to make the suits look more appealing,.

For the first time in YEARS, I have to get a swimsuit, as we are going to be spending a few days in Bermuda in late June and dh wants to spend at least a little time on the pretty pink beaches there. I think those swimdresses are adorable, and someone had a link showing a suit with a tank top and “boy shorts”. I think those are about as daring as I plan to get! 😉

Our girls wore tankinis, or fairly modest two-pieces (none of those horribly small bikinis). They were simply more comfortable that way, and didn’t want to call unwanted attention to themselves.

To each her own. I don’t think we have to dress like Muslims, however, to be “modest”. It is beachwear, for heaven’s sake. As long as our behinds and bosoms aren’t on obvious display, I think we’re good. 🙂

Do you think these are too modest?

My daughter has a swim dress. I mean, DRESS! My very modest sister made it for her girls and passed it down. I love it for my DD! She is so pale. It has what would look like a t-shirt top, a skirt attached, and short for underneath. I almost want her to make me one, but would need a lot of material for it. She uses swim material. She and her girls have never had a problem swimming in them, going to amusement parks with water rides, or to beaches. People may look at them weird, because it really does look like clothes (until you feel the material), but they are comfortable and covered. 👍

I like the swimsuits you posted Serap, but I wouldn’t call it a swimdress. It looks like a normal once piece to me.

OH Amber…so amazing to see you’re pregnant still!!! wooo hooo!

It looks like a one piece? You think? They are so cute though 😃

I totally think they are cute 🙂 I have not been blessed with ever being able to wear a “two piece”, but would wear a one piece like that (I don’t burn as easily as my poor kids). I guess, a “swimdress” to me is like what my sister has made (described above). I mean, it’s really a dress. lol. Falls to their knees, but they love them (so does my DD, but she idolizes her big cousins).

yep, still pregnant! For now, praise be to God 👍

*Dear Serap,

I thought we were supposed to be dressing according to how God perceives we should be dressing. Not how we perceive God wants us to dress.

Especially if we are religious.👍

My only question to this would be; why are we basing what we wear according to “cuteness”, “fashoin”, and “compromises”? Who comes up with what is considered cute and fashionable or a good compromise?
Deciding what one wears bassed on this criteria reminds me of the story of “The Emporer’s New Clothes.”

*I looked up the word “cute” and I do not believe I like that word much more than I like the word “sexy.” Will have to ponder this a little more.

I still like the word “dignified” and “respectful” and for some reason I am not comfortable with wearing something that looks like my underwear or nightgown in public. I do not believe I am either “dignified” or “respectful” of who and what God made me to be.
