That is not the point here my friend. The point was that the entire proposition “XXXX is written by the victor” is bogus because the statement it-self would then not be true but simply something written by a victor. Not so. Before I begin, this will be my last reply to you because I am not going to get sucked into the abyss of frustration, tempting though it may be. As I already mentioned, if you have read my posts, dissent by women is not punishable by stoning, so my assertion dissenting from the dominant narrative of male domination (which I have observed … see what I did there?) is not inconsistent with the overall idea that history and societal values are written by the victors.
I think you see this pretty well and are not trying to dance around it.
No one is denying that modesty is universally applicable. But you are stepping over yourself in first agreeing with me that men’s fashions do not change as rapidly and men require different criteria to be modest. Both of which seem to justify the lack of huge amount of rules for modesty for men with respect to dress.Once again, if you read my posts, you would see my observation that men are given a pass on the modesty principle. There is EVERY point in talking about this, since modesty is a universally applicable principle, and not intended to be used as a club to beat women into submission.
I have pointed out that even if men were dominant, you cannot escape turning to the way human societies operate as the way to attain knowledge regarding standards. Please re-read what I said. It has been my observation that men are dominant, the explanation for and the exemplification of I have already explained.
Just because a certain standard came in to being through male domination, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is invalid either. To claim so would be for you to commit the genetic fallacy.
I already did. I gave some more as well by pointing out how your accusation, even if valid, does not lead to the logical conclusion you desire.Again, you merely asserted your “observations” were correct. You didn’t give any reasons why mine are inconsistent; as I demonstrated, your logic is glaringly flawed.
You cannot accumulate wisdom if it is not under test. The same reason why we have no accumulated any wisdom in our culture in the past 60 years because modesty was not under test (the difference here being we disregarded modesty and Islam thought they already covered everything regarding modesty by coming up with a dress). After ~1k years, surely a revolution has graduated to collective wisdom. Which is exactly why several of us all agree that one cannot rely on such collective “wisdom.”
Which cultures do I arbitrarily disagree with? If I arbitrarily disagree, there is no need for you to disagree too. You can go right ahead and adopt them if you think they satisfy the criteria of holding modesty as a core value and contain wisdom accumulated over centuries. If you are specifically referring to Islam here, if you cannot see why that culture does not qualify to the above, then you are certainly very welcome in embracing it.I don’t know - according to you, we should rely on the collective wisdom of cultures that hod modesty as a value … except the cultures that you arbitrarily don’t agree with. Which is exactly why several of us all agree that one cannot rely on such collective “wisdom.”
But in any case, you don’t seem to disagree with the idea that we must turn to traditional values. You don’t even provide an alternate solution. The only thing that bugs you is that I might be inconsistent in isolating Islam as not compatible with this when you think it is.
So I think if you do think it is indeed compatible, you should give the Burqa a try as your dress from now on. But as I explained to you before, it really isn’t compatible and kind of over-kill. But it will get the job done!
