Gotta be a misprint! Like that in the Wicked Bible (qv.) in which the sixth commandment was listed as “Thou shalt commit adultery.” When the church ordered these bibles destroyed, some (most people were illiterate back then, in the 16th century or thereabouts) found fuel for rumors with which to attack the RC Church. [Maybe I should double check the facts here!] Let’s twist some more words; doesn’t the Bill of Rights declare the freedom to associate or some such thing? Some would then justify the lifestyle of free associations which is, perhaps, a euphemism for promiscuity. The Right To Bare Arms, indeed!:o

It’s the right to bear arms, of course – you no longer have to shave your arms. Ohh say can you see…sniff…

ah, today we live in a liberal age. The sexual revolution and the 60’s have happened and today even Christians fall under their influence. I notice how people today don’t consider some parts of the body immodest if they are exposed such as arms legs and even the back and stomach. However theres a reason exposing these parts used to be illegal. If a man sees a woman in a T-shirt and shorts then hes not exactly going to have lustful thoughts, but if a man sees a woman in a modest dress then he can pretty much only judge her by her personality not her body. When a woman wears a t-shirt and shorts, its easier to judge her by her body. That is why t-shirts and shorts can be immodest. Some people today should stop trying to push the boundaries of modesty.

Suggestions for long distance runner? Female? 🤷

Is it worse to wear pants and show form or to wear a skirt and show legs? 😊

Women need to dress in a way which does not present an occasion of sin to men. For a female runner, she should wear baggy or sweat pants and sweat shirt in order that men don’t lust after her. That neither form nor bare legs are showing.

Modesty IS of course important, but what this pamphlet is saying is just one person’s opinion. Ask the question, does my dress today scandalize anyone, based upon where I am?

Yeah running in sweats in 100 degree weather that’s a smart idea.

I’ve about decided that people advocating some of this stuff don’t live where it gets over 80 degrees in the summer.

Yes, in the hot summer.
So show no form and no leg skin?🤷
Sweat pants in the heat with a street skirt thrown over it?😊

Does it depend then on whether a female is 30-and-Fit or 50-and-Fat then?

There are female forms that may encourage a man to turn his head (toward)
and then
there are female forms that may encourage a man to turn his head (away)
I would imagine 🤷

Anybody running in 100 degree weather and then complaining about heat stroke is crazy. The body can’t possibly regulate down its temperature properly.

Used to live in Phoenix.

Women have a special nature that which when misused can endanger the souls of others. Just because women have this power and are prone to the sin of vanity (in that they receive great satisfaction over the fact that they can cause men to notice them it is easy for them to fall into capital sin) doesn’t mean they are free to be vain. Women have a cross to bear in quelling such ingrained desires.

Sweat clothes are designed to be comfortable in hot weather. They are airy and absorb sweat.

Depends. Some men are attracted to big and pompous. Others to frail and withering. Women should show respect and be mindful of differing sensibilites.

The idea is to present oneself so as not to illicit either type of reaction. Rather be humble and transparent if you will. That is a noble and worthwhile calling.

My husband would argue that skirts (no matter how long) are not necessarily modest… His first thought is “easy access”. His second is usually “I wonder if she’s wearing underwear”? His third is usually “I’m glad I’m married to her”! 😉 BTW My husband is definitely not Mr. Manners &/or a good Catholic/Christian in thought - he’s not baptized in any church and he follows his own code.

I don’t mean to make men sound like dogs or anything, but men can (and do) find the thought of taking off a woman’s clothes very erotic as well. The more covered, the better sometimes b/c it prolongs the fantacy &/or anticipation. My husband thinks I’m sexy wearing his over-sized sweatshirt & sweats - he gets to imagine what’s underneath. If a man has it in his mind to think sexy - he’s going to no matter what the woman is wearing. Again, I’m not indicating that men can’t necessarily control it, but the fact that there are warm, breathing, moving women around can be enough to turn a man on sometimes.

That being said, I’m pretty modest in my dress. I don’t wear short skirts. I don’t wear form-fitting clothing, I don’t bare important parts (cleavage & butt crack especially). However, I do dress in a manner that is appealing to me & to my husband. I may get looks from other men, but I seldom if ever pay attention. I do my best to project an air of untouchability that got me through high school & college w/o any offers for dates. I’m not hideously ugly or mal-formed either. I just portrayed myself as above all that juvenile stuff. I had a boyfriend I was serious about and we were committed. Since graduation I’ve been told by several guys from my class that they always thought I was cute and would have liked to ask me out, but they could tell I wasn’t going to be easy and/or they knew I was looking for forever, not right now. FWIW I wore a spagetti strap low backed princess dress for prom one year and a spagetti strap sheath w/ an mostly transparent ‘overdress’ the other year for prom. I also ran track w/ the miniscule shorts & sleeveless tops. However, I still portrayed myself as being untouchable to all who saw me.

I think modesty can be in the portrayal of the wearer. I think immodesty can be in the eyes of the beholder. There are obviously certain things that are meant to be sexually charged about clothing, but others (elbows, ankles, knees, etc) don’t really strike me as inherently sexy. They’re body parts completely unassociated w/ sex.

This is so true. Kinda long these lines I read a something attributed to Dr. Herbert Ratner that went long the lines of, a non could be forced to walk naked down a street and still find a way to carry herself modestly, while Marilyn Monroe could walk down the street in a nun’s full habit and still find a way to seem immodest.

I feel that some women dress very masculine. There is a passage somewhere in the Bible, perhaps St Pauls letters, that men should not dress like women and women should not dress as men. My children and I were at the Adoration of the Cross mass today, (its Good Friday already here in NZ.) and Im telling you that the church was bursting at the seems, so they had the ministers of the Eucharist spread around the church for communion. Well, I could have fallen over when two, six foot something drag queens lined up for communion. The bewildered minister asked no question of course and administered the Eucharist. My young children asked why the men in ladies clothes were allowed Communion. I simply told them that we cannot judge others. My 14 yr son couldn’t keep a straight face and once the congregation was outside, there was shocked silence as the two ‘ladies’ clammered away in their heels. I’m not judging, just sharing my experiences today. By the way, I wear long skirts, high neklines and no elbows showing. I just feel secure that way, but then I veil in church too.
:eek::ehh::signofcross::frighten:

Don’t most Christian “denominations” reject Mary as having spiritual and doctrinal significance? We Catholics might ask, concerning modesty, “What would Mary do?” One of Our Lady of Fatima’s quotes had to do with the downfall of many souls being hastened or promoted by modern clothing fashions. (Did it not? Need verification.)

I am sure you wouldn’t find Our Lady running around in short shorts and tank top and say its because she’s exercising and otherwise it would be too hot.

With an 11-year old daughter at home, modesty is becoming more and more of an issue. I love that bermuda shorts are in! I hate that stretch jeans make her look like she was “poured into them” and in fact have banned them. When we look for dresses for special occasions, I tell her no spaghetti straps, no strapless (duh) and if the dress is see-through we MUST wear a slip.

Me, I’m pretty conservative. I don’t show my arms because they are fat, I wear loose fitting slacks because tight clothes are uncomfortable. I wear turtlenecks in the winter and mock turtle necks in the summer. My buttons are buttoned except at the very top (unless the blouse has a pin or some sort of decoration at the throat). I haven’t sewn for myself in years due to weight fluctuations, but the idea is wonderful. I wish I had time to sew for my daughter. I don’t wear shorts above the knee out in public. I wear capris, but not skin-tight.

Not just covering things is important though, making sure we don’t jiggle too much is also important (at least to my DH). 😉

I haven’t sewn in a long time either, but love the idea as well.
