I try to have a good sense of humor. No one should take themselves too seriously.
However, people who choose to make fun of other people’s beliefs, race, nationality or ethnicity are basically insensitive.
There are so many other things to make light of. IF you know that a joke or cartoon will offend a huge class of people, why do it ? Do you really want to arouse hatred in other people ? Don’t we already have enough problems between Muslims and Christians and Jews without adding more fuel to the fire ?
IF you start pooking an alligator with a stick, should it surprise you when the alligator snaps off your arm or leg ?
Yes, I think some folks are over reacting to a “mere cartoon” BUT anyone making a cartoon about the plight of jews as Nazi Germany did and as some Muslim are proposing or about Christ’s Crucifixation would probably draw just as much hatred.
Both sides of this issue are wrong, the cartoon should never have been released and Muslims are over reacting. And yes it is easy for me to say, because my faith is not the one being ridiculed.
Muslims cartoons about the beliefs of the west are equally inflammatory. Just because we do not react with open hostility or rioting do not make us any less offended or more morally correct. Part of our beliefs is to ignore persecution and hostility, part of Islam is to not put up with ridicule or abuse. It is 2 different cultures, and each reacts as they are taught.
