The Hebrew word used there is Muhammuddim. The end letters IM is plural of respect majesty and grandeur. Minus “im” the name would be Muhamud translated as “altogether lovely” in the Authorised Version of the Bible or ‘The Praised One’ ‘the one worthy of Praise’ i.e. MUHAMMED (P.B.U.H)!
You know Hamba - if you are going to cite someone else’s work & words - you should give them the credit because I knew you didn’t come up with this… which is why I said quit quoting Deedat.

A lecture by Ahmed Deedat**

islamworld.net/docs/Muhammad.in.Bible.html

BTW - the whole site is pathetic -

It blows my mind how our “corrupted” Bible, OT & NT is needed to justify mohamads claim to his so called prophethood.

We managed to “corrupt” the entire Bible with the exception of the passages that Deedat uses…

The vowels are determined by the markings underneath the letters. I don’t know them, but maybe someone who can is reading the thread?
Thanks for pointing that out. Uncle Google tells me that מַחֲמַדִּים is pronounced “Machamadim,” not “Muhammaddim.” If someone familiar with biblical Hebew could confirm my quick search that would be great. 👍

I find it odd that Muslims will not accept Jesus as God unless His explicit statement, “I am God” can be found in the New Testament, but at the same time are willing to grasp onto any word that has an “M” “h” and a “d” in it in the Old Testament as proof that Mohammed is foretold in the Bible.

Equally strange is their desperation to find the slightest indication of Mohammed in a “corrupted” document and use it as proof of his prophethood. If the Bible is corrupted, how reliable can it be to prove anything, so why the desperation?

מוחמד

Is not the above Hebrew word translated to ‘Mohammed’?

Is this not what the OP asked?.. Why are people arguing that it is not translated to ‘Mohammed’ since the answer is that it so clearly is?

The OP wasn’t sure about anything and he posted what he understood - but if you read the Hebrew scriptures, the word the OP used is not in there.

He was trying to learn & become more informed with the passage.

If you read one of my posts in this thread, I concur that the word the OP **used **means mohamad, however, if you read the scripture it is a completely different word.

So Hamba - how about answering my questions

**
So, the claim is that the name mohamad means the “praised one” - is that correct Hamba…??
**

And this one:

**
Well, I’m questioning him because there are other people named mohamad during mohamads life -
So, if the name mohamad means “the praised one” that means the other mohamads that lived during the prophets time are also “the prasied ones”.
I’ve posted this before - on one breath the muslims will state that the Songs of Solomon is a bunch of perverted verses/poetry filled with vile disgusting words and on the other breath it’s…
Oh wait… 5:16 is all about our prophet mohamad - the praised one - the altogether lovely…!!!

The OP was mistaken that the word מוחמד appears in the Song of Songs. The actual word that appears is מַחֲמַדִּים which is different. I don’t know which word if either) appears in Deuteronomy, which the OP also asked.

I see deedat has no answers for u.

It is not an article of faith for Muslims to believe that the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) should appear in the Bible.

Although I think that it does appear but if people say that it does not, then this is not an issue for me.

I read and watching on the internet about Mohamed’s name being in the Old Testament. The referenced word allegedly located in Deuteronomy and Song of Solomon is: מוחמד

I’ve been trying to learn more about Islam since a friend of mine has supposedly read the bible and finds Christianity to be wrong. I thought this would be a way to get different, hopefully good references for my studies. I’m looking for valid (academically honest) Jewish, Christian, secular or other sites that deal with this effectively. Islamic references are not valid in and of themselves without evidence (manuscripts) that can be corroborated by secular, or other sources.

If you know the answer, that would be great.

Thanks.
Look… the issue is not what kind of word is it… it is basically the same root word in hebrew and arabic

H M D … those 3 letters are the root letters for the word … in hebrew they are more likely to pronounce the letter H as CH or KH but it is the same word and it means praise, something nice, something benign… basically good qualities etc…

The issue is if the word mentioned is an adjective or a noun… because it can be both … the name Muhammad itself can be an adjective or a noun…

replace the word ‘‘Muhammed’ with ‘’ Esther’’ … Esther means a star in persian … but it is also a name… so at this point if the name Esther comes in a a sentence you will have to think if it it means a start or if it means a girl named Esther.

who will decide if it is a person named Muhammed or if the person described is just ‘’ nice and lovely’’ ?

It is you who will decide… I am a muslim and personally believe thatit is likely that it is a reference to Muhammed the person. But that is just me…

simple as that…you gotta think of what makes sense to you and taking in consideration the flow of the verses before as well

Good luck

I’m sure the Jews will disagee with you since it is their scripture…

Meedo, I will ask you what I asked Hamba - did you read the entire chapter…???

I’m getting frustrated - Do you actually believe all of the Song of Songs is about mohamad…

For the Love of God - I need an honest answer…!!!

The problem is that interpreting מַחֲמַדִּים to mean Muhammad makes absolutely no sense within the context of the Song of Songs, which even this Muslim blogger admits is about a lover and his beloved as an allegory for God and his people. Also, the 3-letter root word does not produce words that all mean the same thing–it produces different words that are related in meaning but do not have the same meaning.

OK, everybody, I don’t read Hebrew, although I hope to rectify that in the next several years; this is just my MX$2 worth:

Even if the Hebrew word in question can be rendered as “Mohammed,” how does that prove anything, prophetically? The Bible was not written in Arabic; and it is common for descriptive words in various languages to become human names in later times.

Since Mohammed was not born for over 1,500 years after the texts in question were written and the language he used was not in existence when they were written, to claim that the Bible predicts him is like somebody today named Bethany claiming that her life is predicted in Scripture.

God Bless and ICXC NIKA

There was a program on TV [History Channel, I think] that claimed someone had written a computer program to scan the Bible and find prophesies to major historical events. It supposedly looked for letters in right and left diagonals that formed words [in English, no less] that described the events. It did find some words describing events of the relatively recent past that alleged to support the thesis. Of course, the true test is to have the program predict events in our future. This was never explored, so the results became self-fulfilling prophesies – after the fact!

I’ve been told by Muslims that the Sermon of the Rocks and Trees means that Muslims will fight the Jews just before the end days. Since there doesn’t seem to be any chance of peace between the two groups, this becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy too. So it appears to me that finding “Mohammed” in the “M-h-d” of ancient Hebrew is just another after-the-fact self-fulfilling prophesy.

What I’ve noticed through my years here at CAF - Non-Catholic sub forum -

Is that when a thread is opened regarding Hebrew scripture by muslims, there hasn’t been one Jewish CAF member to particapate, correct or post … 🤷

If I’m wrong, perhaps someone can point the way to where a Jewish CAF member has commented on islamic threads.

I’ve noticed that we’re not terribly active on Mormon, JW, Adventist etc threads either.

Please note that there aren’t exactly a lot of us around.

I think Meedo makes a good point. For example the name ‘John’ means - “God is gracious”.We could read the Bible and the Koran and look for “God is gracious” and then depending on the context argue for that text to be referring to a future John rather than describing God/Allah as gracious.

If some Muslims believe that Muhammed is referred to in the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures in a similar way then we can respectfully agree to disagree.

Some Christians do similar things with Old Testament/Hewbrew Scripure verses such as “I brought my Son out of Egypt” seeing Son as referring to a future description of Jesus rather than (or in conjunction with) the Israel of the Exodus - (Matthew’s Gospel).

Theres a sky tv channel called peace tv which is on channel 820. try watching it. you get quiet a lot if answers to your questions there. also they’ve got a website if you wanted to ask a question there. just type in peace tv in google.
It depends what else you read after the name mohammad because its mentioned in the bible that jesus said that a man named mohamed will come after me

The old hebrew testement of th bible will be real and not changed so if the word muhammed was in there than it means that it was refering to gods prophet mohammad pbuh. Remember the real tora, bible, qur’an are gods words. God cummunicated to his people through his prophets so if the bible was revealed before 1500 years ago, before mohammad pbuh was here. remember it was god who actually revealled the bible through jesus pbuh and god knows the past, present and the future
