Mohammed's Ascension to Heaven versus Jesus' Ascension?

A few days ago I came across some very interesting news.

Everyone knows that after Jesus arose from the dead He Ascended into Heaven shortly afterwards, marking the fulfillment of His work on earth. I was always under the impression Mohammed ascended into Heaven when he was done preaching, in a way similar to Jesus. The place where Mohammed ascended was in central Jerusalem at a shrine called the Dome of the Rock (the gold dome you see in pictures).

It TURNS OUT that I was wrong this whole time, Mohammed did ascend to Heaven at the Dome, but it was not at the end of his life. According to Islamic history there was a time when he was in Saudi Arabia (Mecca) and a flying horse came and they flew off to Jerusalem, and from there the horse took him to Heaven to talk with the Prophets of the past. Afterwards they flew back to Mecca. This is the “ascension”. Further, it turns out that he died of someone poisoning him and his grave is still known and preserved at a major shrine in mecca.
Here is the story on wiki:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isra_and_Mi%27raj

Did you know this? What do you think about this story?

I think the Resurrection of Jesus and His Ascension is much more inspiring.

**“My ascension is better your ascension”, perhaps 🙂 ? **

**The horse is Al-Borak, & is one the few animals admitted to the Muslim heaven. Another is the dog of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus - IIRC, there are others. **

**Enoch (Idris in the Koran) was said to have ascended to Heaven; & he was a prophet. It’s the kind of thing prophets do. 🙂 It seems slightly unnecessary to go to the Dome of the Rock - wouldn’t it have been more straightforward simply to go upwards from Mecca ? **

**IMHO, the Ascension of Jesus raises fewer questions than that of Mohammed; when a mere mortal does it, one has to wonder about his escape velocity, rate of ascent, how he breathed in space, & all the other issues that a successful manned journey to the moon has raised. When Jesus does it, one can say that the whole thing is so much a mystery that it can be spoken of only by using the vivid imagery of the OT. That is not possible with mortals - we are told too many details of how it was done. **

Maybe we can get together some time fly to Dùn Èideann ann an t-Alba and ascend from there.
(I have no idea where that is, I suspect its a major area but spelled in a different language. Ireland or something?)

Well Kad my brother I think you made a good point.

What is so wrong with getting married? Is it unholy? Why would it be an insult for a man to get married? Men eat, they drink, they sleep, they go to the bathroom, and they get married and have intercourse with their wives and this has all been ordained by God so I don’t see the problem folks.

Maybe I’m still not being clear.

Did Jesus ascend into “heaven” according to Islam? YES
Is Jesus in “heaven” right now, according to Islam? YES
Will he return according to Islam? YES
Will he die according to Islam after his return? YES
Will he then be resurrected like everyone else? YES

I’ll just stop there. No complex phrases to be misinterpreted, I hope.
Thanks Sister Amy, Now you are more clear to me.

I’m sorry but is there something wrong with you Angelos? It’s like you can’t read. Please tell me where in this post does Sam777 complain about ‘prostitution in paradise’.

What about that post do you not find clear? It couldn’t be more obvious that the Muslim belief he’s so outraged by is Jesus getting married. Only a Christian would find that so ‘humiliating’, ‘insulting’ and ‘downgrading’, yet the guy claims to be a Muslim.

I’ll explain that in more details:

** Facts:**
  • Sex is something earthy, from what Jesus said in the bible:
At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”
    (Matthew 22:30)
Note the words “neither marry nor be given in marriage” (i.e., NO SEX), and notice the word “Angels”, wow isn’t that something extraordinary to be like Angels, thank you God for such upgrade for us.
  • Look at these verses from the Bible:
The disciples said to him, If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry. Jesus replied, Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.Matthew 19:10-11
Note these words “but only those to whom it has been given”, wow, that really means something beyond our understanding (at least to my understanding).
** My believes:**
  • Maybe sex was not part of the plan in the beginning, I’m researching more on that topic, because the sex relation was used only after Mr. Adam & Mrs. Eve have sinned, now in the beginning God could have a plan to give birth to children without the actual sex & lust, for example if Adam was just to touch Eve by his hand and just ask God to bare him a child (e.g,. something like Jesus birth).
  • Why God have punished Eve by making the pains in childbearing very severe (Genesis 3:16), and why God have told Abraham to be circumcised in order to keep the covenant (Genesis 17:9-10),
why God covered and punished our sexual organs, if the hand & the mouth that have eaten the fruit, then those parts should have been punished.:hmmm:
God is the great creator, why God would create a part in our body that is not 100% perfect, what did that fruit do to us:hmmm:, I’m researching more…
Jesus is Lord according to Christianity, and in both Islam & Christianity, the idea of God having sex is not acceptable at all, so we Muslims should ask ourselves this question, why Jesus didn’t marry when he was here on earth!, does that mean he is Lord, for me, if Jesus had married then I would somehow accept Islam’s theory that he is a prophet given the power by God to perform his miracles, but because he did not marry, that assures me that he is LORD.:gopray:

Sex in Islam is everywhere, in Quran, in Hadith, in Earth, in Paradise, we are allowed to make sex to infant:mad:, to 8 years old girl:mad:, to 9 years old girl:mad:, we are allowed to marry unlimited wives, 72 virgins waiting us in Paradise to do sex. What a great life to be a Muslim right ;), sex is everywhere in our life, you know why sex is everywhere in our Islamic religion, I think to keep us busy thinking always with sex and diverting us from thinking of the true God.

My believes is that marriage in earth should be done as a LOVE relation between one man & one women ONLY not one man & 4 women, then the sex can be used as a tool to bare children.

Ok then, you’re free to believe whatever you want.

Now could you please tell me why, as a Muslim, you’re explaining your beliefs by quoting the Gospels?

because he is comparing. He quotes Bible, Quran and Hadith.

Does the Quran prohibit you from reading the previous scriptures?

Enoch (Idris in the Koran) was said to have ascended to Heaven; & he was a prophet. It’s the kind of thing prophets do. 🙂
So did Elijah. Going to heaven is a one way trip.

Apparently Mohammad was only dreaming about it, thats why he remained on earth. 😃

**“A lot of people ask me that” - it’s Scots Gaelic for: **

  • **Edinburgh = Dùn Èideann = *dun ***(= fortress) of Edwin (cf. Dunedin in New Zealand: same name, lightly Anglicised)
  • in = ann an
  • [the] Scotland = [t-]Alba
**It’s related to Irish Gaelic. **Edinburgh is a pretty major area 🙂

Not necessarily 😉 - Enoch was taken up, then came back, then was taken. According to the First Book of Enoch, that is.

**Some people reconcile the ending of Luke 24 & the beginning of Acts 1 by suggesting that Jesus ascended on the day of His resurrection, as Luke 24 implies, came back, then ascended as per Acts 1. I don’t that is entirely convincing. **

The funny thing is, the motif of the ascent to heaven is very ancient and first recorded in Mesopotamia. Which by some people’s way of thinking would make it ten-star pagan 😃

**If the *motif *of mortals ascending & descending to heaven is related to the story of Jacob’s vision of ascending & descending heavenly beings (Genesis 28), then there may be even less reason for the journey to be one way only. **

John’s use of the motif is really fascinating, as for him Jesus is the Descending Revealer Who is also the Ascending One - see John 1 & especially 3.13. There is far more meaning in the ascension-texts than is commonly realised; the pity is that it can be so easy to miss 😦 - St.Paul has plenty to say on it too 🙂 .

I quote from the Bible because I don’t believe that it has been altered, I believe God saved it all those years, why should I believe someone who came 600 years after Jesus to say that the Bible is altered, what proof he had!.

However, maybe I would have believed that the Bible is altered if there were no major contradictions between the two books as stated in (part 3/7) of my story, and honestly my soul is the one who triggered the whole thing for me, the idea of Christianity wasn’t in mind at all, but suddenly when I start hearing Jesus words, my soul started shedding tears, that never happened with me when reading Quran!, now I know the answer for that, because the soul in the human-being is from God it reacts to God’s words…

Nor can be any logic of justifying the latest is more superior than the earlier. It is to the earlier that the later must be judged upon, not the vice versa.

Islamic logic is the opposite…ok let’s go Mormons

The craziest and senseless thing is that Jesus existed around 600 years before Mohammed, so how in the world could Mohammed visit Jesus or Moses, did he have a Time Machine or what?
Second, by the same time Mohammed was inspired by a misleading demon to recite Al-Quran many other men were inspired to write other books, Al-Quran was basically the most famous.
Hadith=personal opinions and razionalizations trying to explain (or understand and convince themselves of) the beginings of Islam, created by people full of myhts and subjectivity after smoking weed and using opium.
Quran states that Jews and Christians are friends (I do not know in what world you can talk about Jesus to a Jew, but Mohammed had a time traveling machine, so who knows, perhaps in his world millions of time from today).
But the Al-Baqara says: If you are Muslim, Christian, or Jew but you believe in God and the Day of Judgment then you’re good to go, no fear, God will bless you.
Also Quran says Allah sent the Quran for the people who disobeyed the Torah and the Bible, but if you OBEY IT you’re cool, no worries Allah will save you.
So, WHY IN THE WORLD DO I NEED TO BE A MUSLIM IF IT’S OK WITH ALLAH THAT I BE A GOOD CHRISTIAN.
It’s funny because the Bible warns Christians from going further than the things written, also that if an angel, or a man teaches us something different than the written things in the Bible may he be cursed: SO WITH NO RESPECT I SAY TO MUSLIMS: MAY MOHAMMED BE CURSED AND WHATEVER DEMON INSPIRED HIM.
