Traditionally, the guests were their to witness and give their approval to the union. So that interpretation of “by consent” is not as out in left field as you are acting.

Furthermore, the OP is worried about being seen as “approving” the wedding so “by consent” applies here.

Being partner in the sin applies here (not in the way you interpreted it) but by participating in the celebration of the union.

and the son is not approving of his mother’s choices. He should attend simply because he wants to have a relationship with his mother. Love does not mean you cut off your family. By keeping the relationship open, he has the opportunity to model for his mother true Christianity.

Umm, we had the “argument” about Jesus eating with sinners earlier in this thread.
I’d say it comes down to whether people believe that a lesbian relationship is a serious sin or not. The Church teaches that it is.
I do understand that this can be an emotionally fraught issue between parent and child. I don’t know if the OP is an adult or even grounded in the faith enough to state kindly but firmly that he/she won’t attend. I hope the best for the OP and hope he/she gets some good wise counsel from a priest.

Hmm, Jesus went into the homes of sinners, ate with them.
I don’t think Jesus ever attended any event that was specifically to celebrate something He would have spoken against.
He went to a wedding feast at Cana; He never attended a lesbian wedding feast.

he will never be able to show her the beauty of repentance if he cuts off all ties from her.

And some people believe that 9/11 was an inside job. Because some strangers on the internet think something does not make it so.

No.

He has to follow Christ and prepare to be rejected by the world giving in is only going to lead him to abandon the Faith or encourage others to approve of homosexual acts

It is not always necessarily wrong to attend a same-sex wedding. If you make your beliefs clear, that you believe what the Church teaches, I don’t think it causes scandal to attend. So I think you can morally attend the wedding of your mother. The Church does not teach that attending gay weddings is necessarily sinful.

I think you are right to not want to attend.

Sorry, for the others posters, but I will be direct.

It will be a scandalous thing.
EnCourage ministry for example is discouraging to attend to a relative same-sex wedding.
I suppose that if the situation is reversed, and the weeding is for a son, this question of not attend will be more evident…

And sorry, but the argument of "your mother had done all for you… " is not a valid one. She had probably not done more than any other mother. We never had to approve our parents.

She is probably not a naive one, if you have never hide your beliefs, she is probably not surprise. So she made choice, and should not had to except to live on her children approovement.

On a personal level, I have ever attend some civil weddings; but refuse to go to a civil heterosexual union of a future in-law.
If my mother-in-law remarry with a man, I will not attend.
We have been on cold for years (not a resaon given, not a word spoken, but I guess she understand and don’t try to harash us, until at least she learned of my first pregnancy).

That is like saying Jesus does not approve of roller coasters because He never went to Six Flags.

Jesus reached out to the lowest sinner, reached them where they were. He showed them a radical love. In all of the accounts, they were so overwhelmed by the love that they ran to tell their friends to listen.

Okay, I’ll bite - how do you know this? I’m not saying he did, but we don’t know. Christ also tells us to love our enemies. If we cut them off, we can’t show Christ.

Really?

The sin of Scandal is approving or leading others into sin by ether word, deed, or example.

Sigh. The sin of scandal does not mean “that looks like or IS SIN and I am offended”.

Check the Catechism.

I very much doubt that our OP’s attending a wedding and eating some bad reception hall food will cause other people to go marry lesbians.
