I get it. I get that Catholics are taught this. But at the end of the day, the family gets busted up over this sort of thing. So you have to ask, if God is looking down, is he pleased with that? I would have to say, I don’t think so.
So it means maybe some re-thinking needs to go on here. I don’t have all the answers. I know what I do in such situations. I err on the side of charity and love. You say that means letting the person know you think they are sinful and then not involving yourself with them. Again, I say that busts up families. God ain’t smiling down on that.
It isn’t as simple as so many people here think it is. We need to think about what we do. We need to think about the consequences. We need to think about what is moral. If you believe in God, you need to maybe consider what is most pleasing to him. You maybe need to talk to a spiritual advisor if you feel stuck and don’t know what to do. There are a lot of consdierations. But just spewing a bunch of stuff about what is a sin and what isn’t, in the big book of sins, doesn’t cut it. I realize Catholicss recognize a concept of moral culpability when it comes to sinfullness. Maybe that is all I am suggesting. Consider there are mitigating circumstances. If there is a God, I don’t want him frowning down on me because I took something beautiful (my family) and busted it up because I was thinking too black and white on these issues. He would have made the world black and white if that is what he desired. At least that is what I think.
