I get it. I get that Catholics are taught this. But at the end of the day, the family gets busted up over this sort of thing. So you have to ask, if God is looking down, is he pleased with that? I would have to say, I don’t think so.

So it means maybe some re-thinking needs to go on here. I don’t have all the answers. I know what I do in such situations. I err on the side of charity and love. You say that means letting the person know you think they are sinful and then not involving yourself with them. Again, I say that busts up families. God ain’t smiling down on that.

It isn’t as simple as so many people here think it is. We need to think about what we do. We need to think about the consequences. We need to think about what is moral. If you believe in God, you need to maybe consider what is most pleasing to him. You maybe need to talk to a spiritual advisor if you feel stuck and don’t know what to do. There are a lot of consdierations. But just spewing a bunch of stuff about what is a sin and what isn’t, in the big book of sins, doesn’t cut it. I realize Catholicss recognize a concept of moral culpability when it comes to sinfullness. Maybe that is all I am suggesting. Consider there are mitigating circumstances. If there is a God, I don’t want him frowning down on me because I took something beautiful (my family) and busted it up because I was thinking too black and white on these issues. He would have made the world black and white if that is what he desired. At least that is what I think.

How so Andrew?
It’s like one of those “Magic Eye” pictures. A lot of the posters here are looking at the surface of the picture and trying to make sense of the random pattern they see. She has adjusted her focus and sees the 3D shark in the background. A very Catholic approach to Catholic teaching.

You are right it does bust up families. But people need to realize as Catholics this is what we believe, this is who we are. Do we love all our brothers and sisters in Christ? Of course. But sometimes we have to make the tough choices. It’s not about just going to keep the peace, it’s people accepting us for what we believe and understanding our choice not to attend something.

No attending the homosexual wedding is a grave mortal sin and apporves of degenerate behavior

You say that you wouldn’t support certain wrong actions, so there is a point of no compromise with you. Then I can only guess that you don’t think gay marriage is an issue and this isn’t really about supporting family through thick and thin.

Doubt that his mom said “Son, do you think I should be a lesbian?”, scratch counsel
Doubt he commanded his mom “Go marry that woman!!”, scratch command
Doubt he said “I double dog DARE you to marry a woman, you are a coward if you do not!”, so, no provocation.
Doubt that he is saying “mom, you are the BEST lesbian in the world. You put all of the other lesbians to shame. And this wedding, it makes all other lesbian weddings pale in comparison!!”, scratch praise and flattery
Being a partner? Just ewww
Silence? Nope, he has already said that he does not agree. And I’d bet you his mom KNOWS that the Church does not believe lesbian marriage is valid.
Lastly, defending. Again, cannot see the poster above defending the wedding. Sure, he would defend his mom and that is what a good son does!
What about “by consent”?

A Catholic must be willing to love Christ more than humans even family

Nothing comes before Christ and the Church.

To attend homosexual weddings or receptions is an grave scandal to all and a mortal sin

Wait a second, what about when Christ said he didn’t come to bring peace but the sword and to pit family against family?

Catechism citation please?

We were not told “By this shall all men know you are my disciples, by how well you boycott weddings” or “Let your disgust for sin radiate before men so they will see your disapproval and glorify your Father in heaven”.

??? Really??? I have never asked consent of people who I invite to a social event. By RSVPing YES I am not giving consent. They are big grownups and do not need my consent.

The OP asked a question - should he go. He did not ask if it was a valid wedding.

Marriage in and of itself cemented nations and communities for centuries. It created cohesion among people, families, communities and civilization wouldn’t be the same without it. Gay “marriage” is contributing nothing but division, familial disintegration, confusion and violated (predominantly mentally) children. Can you tell me what good is coming or will come of this? Please, be honest.

He asked and I responded and I have just as much a right to say what I think as anyone else.

So what?

He never approved of their sin.

Catholics must maintain Our Moral purity to encourage a person to sin by approving of gay marriage is evil

but I’ve realized that if I go, that means that I support it.
I’m a mom. I have a son who is an adult.

If something happened and he chose a dark path, if he committed crime, if he committed murder, I would still be his mom and I would still love him. I would put money in his prison commissary account, I would visit him every time the prison allowed it and I would stay as long as they let me. I’d write him a letter every day. If my fellow parishioners saw me doing that, not a one of them would think that those actions of love meant for one moment I supported his crime, his sin. They would see a mom who loves unconditionally.

And told them to repent, let’s not forget that. He said it better than any of us ever could, definitely including me, but nevertheless we shouldn’t forget that.
