Monsignor Joseph Bambera will be installed today as the new Bishop of Scranton, PA!

This afternoon, Monday, April 26, we - our Diocese and the Church - will have a new Bishop!! The installation Mass will be shown on EWTN at 2 PM. Cardinal Rigali will be presiding. This is an exciting time for the Diocese of Scranton! It seems so appropriate that His ordination and installation should take place just after Good Shepherd Sunday. Please keep us and (soon to be) Bishop Joseph Bambera in your prayers.

My understanding is that there was a great deal of unhappiness during the six year tenure of the previous bishop. I hope Bishop Bambera brings healing and unity to the diocese.
 
Can’t wait till the Archdiocese of Philadelphia gets a new archbishop installed. One that will rid parishes of altar girls and EMHC. And bring back some of the traditional orders back to the region, like the Benedictines, Cistercans, and Dominicans.

Why do OF Roman Rite cantors always have to raise their hands for a response. What if I don’t want to sing?. Why can’t they just have a nice choir sing gregorian chant. This sounds to much like a musical on TMC. In the Greek Orthodox church the cantors don’t raise their hands to the people during the response. I also loved the clapping going on for Cardinal Justin Rigali right in the middle of vespers. This would never happen in the East during vespers. Vespers is a time for prayer, not glorifying someone. You can glorify someone in the church hall AFTER vespers.

While I understand what you are saying, this is off the topic of this thread.

Please keep our new Bishop in your prayers. He will have much to deal with. I am sure a great deal of prayer and thought went into this choice for our Diocese. We are hoping he will be a ‘Good Shepherd’. Thank you.

Here’s hoping that the Diocese does not get the bishop it deserves. The way Bishop Martino was treated was shameful. Prayers for Bishop-designate (for a few more hours, anyway) Bambera, as I do agree he will need them.

Bishop Martino, like each of us, has his strengths and his weaknesses. He was a steadfast and fearless voice for the pro-life movement. With the decrease in the number of priests, and economic issues, though, he had many difficult, and unpopular, decisions to make. I would not have wanted to be in his shoes. As I said, though, now, we need to look forward. Hopefully all of us will have learned from the past. The Diocese and the future Bishop Bambera need our prayers.

i also pray that a new bishop will come this way. a faifhfull shepperd to lead Catholics in this part of the world.

If you watched the Installation Mass, you again saw the same raising of the hands for a response. I read and cantor at Mass. When I lead the Responsorial Psalm, I just look up. The arm raising bothers me. too, but, I presume it is a tradition of sorts, so I try to overlook it. I’m a fairly new Catholic. I don’t know the proper protocol on clapping. When I hear clapping after the choir sings, for me, it turns choral worship into a performance, which is certainly inappropriate. I’ve even wondered about clapping after the Pope speaks sometimes. It seems it would be more appropriate to take a time for quiet reflection. Perhaps a topic for another thread?
 
I hail from Scranton as well, Linda. Bishop Bambera was assistant pastor at my wife’s church, the defunct St. Mary’s of the Assumption in South Scranton in the mid-80’s. He is a very kind man possessive of high intelligence. He is a solid man of faith who listens intently to people. In other words, he’s the kind of man that is sorely needed. God bless his tenure!!! 😃 Rob
P.S. He loves children, and unfortunately only the older two of my four DD’s benefitted from his wise homilies. He’s one of those priests whose parting is greeted with sorrow. Now we all have him! 👍

Hi, Rob!
I’m from the farthest west end of the Diocese (2 1/2 hours from Scranton!), so, I have had no opportunity to meet him or any parishioners who have had a connection with him, to my knowledge, anyway. Our local priests seem pleased and optimistic. So, I am truly hoping he will be a shepherd that will grace us more often with his presence. “He is a solid man of faith who listens intently to people.” This is so good to hear. 🙂 Thank you for your positive words and attitude. He has a huge responsibility, and is certainly in my prayers.
