Moral issue of going to a VERY wiccan house and a VERY wiccan "family" friend

Thanks for telling those kids the truth about ouija boards. Yes- so true- society has become so ‘openminded’ the brains have fallen out. As the saying goes if you don’t fall for God, you’ll fall for anything, which is why we’re in the mess we are in today.
I think a big problem is that our world makes the occult and Satanism somehow appear to be interesting. It’s one trick the devil uses against us. First, people say things like, “It’s no big deal. It’s innocent. He’s not really diving into Satanism, he’s just exploring it.” That opens the door to do a quick Google search. Then you have shows on the Discovery channel or something talking about seances and whatever else. Frankly, I wish more exorcists were willing to come forward and talk about their experiences and explain to people how dangerous this stuff is.

They should also come forward and explain how we have power over unclean spirits by virtue of our Baptism and how the demons tremble at the name of Jesus Christ, about how Mary crushes the head of the serpent, and about how there is no doubt that we are in a spiritual war yet there is also no doubt about who will win this spiritual war–and that is Christ. The only doubt is who will be standing with him in the end.
 
Has anyone else here ever responded to the question, “What sign are you?” with, “I was born under the sign of the cross.”? It always gets a surprised look!

I admit while walking through the park in San Diego a couple of years ago I decided to have a little fun and see what it was like to have a fortune telling with tarot cards. The lady wasn’t “witchy” or anything. I didn’t have any bad vibes around her. She didn’t talk about anything wiccan or pagan or have anything around her that made her seem that way. She just had a little table, two chairs, and a large umbrella. I found my experience to be similar to having a nice conversation about myself with a stranger. That was actually the only time I walked by a “fortune teller” who didn’t creep me out. (You know how they are sometimes at parks and beaches.) But I did find myself days and weeks later thinking, “I wonder when such and such will happen,” or, “I should close my eyes and meditate on the color green to bring good things into my life.” I wasn’t obsessed with thinking in that way. Just now and then I would think about it. That is what I see as the danger of “fortune tellers”, though. The fact that you could concentrate on what they said. It might be fun to do and feel comfortable but later you find yourself leaning on what they have said and, perhaps, a little less on God. For some people that can be an open door and a slippery slope.
 
Wiccans aren’t known to worship the devil…they worship nature…
If god is for us who can be against…

Any worship not directed towards the Christian God is idol worship…Satan has the corner market on idol worship.

The wiccan woman you are talking about is an incredibly misled soul who is unwittingly partaking in an invention of Satan.

The nicest people in the world can be seduced by demons if they close their eyes to Jesus Christ.
 
My brother is a Wicca believer, he is enamored by Alister Crowley and his fanaticism as well as some other very non-Christian rituals. As a Catholic it is my duty to love him as my brother, and to pray for him everyday. I witness to him when he lets me and I do not reject him. Christ would not reject him.

Those of you who state the original poster should stay away from those situations are fear-mongers and dividers. You should be ashamed to turn away from the very people you should be embracing!!
The Holy Spirit will protect you. Satan has no power over God, and you are a child of God. Turn away from sin and love the Lord with all your might and you shall fear no evil!!

I would like the orignial poster to remember one thing.
This WHOLE world is full of evil.
Evil can be defined as anything that does not exist for the glory of the Lord.
Wicca is just another example of human rebellion against the authority of our God and creator.
There are a lot more scary things in my book.
MTV, rap music, road rage, Wall Street, and Hollywood to just name a few.
In other words, lust greed, wrath, sloth, envy, and pride.

Evil takes all forms.
You should not fear any one more than the other, lest you fall victim to the ones you don’t fear.
Wicca is overblown. They do not worship Satan, but they are OF satan because they are not FOR God.

It is not the evil you see that is the worst, it is the evil that is hidden and all around you.
 
my husband’s best friends mother (who is the “family” friend) … **i have mixed feelings **about this because as a person i love her and respect her, however(!) there are times when i cannot go to her house. its like i feel this incredible urge to jump up and RUN out of the house because it gives me a weird “i-need-to-leave” feeling… she said you dont need to go to the store to get a test. my hubbie was right there agreeing with what she was saying :eek: (mind you, she has this weird way with her “sons” (being her actual biological sons and her “adopted” sons who are her biological sons friends if you get what i mean) and theyd wait on her hand and foot if she asked them to, more so than their OWN biological parents😦 ) we did end up getting a test and i wasnt pregnant (haha). she also gave us a basket of “gathered things” thats not just an ordinary basket which also had a satchel of wiccan protective stuff that ****my husband brought with him to iraq (we were just friends back then) and i was extremely uneasy with it being in my (VERY) Catholic homeuse. luckily, i found a Catholic way to destroy occult items and i did it when my husband was away on military training (i know it was sneaky, but i put the basket in the rubbish and he took it out and i put it back and he didnt say anything, so better forgotten (and nonexistant), right?). she also told me that i am “under the protection” now because i am part of the family. i was smiling with one of those :eek: moments inside saying i dont need YOUR “protection” because i have Jesus and Mary! i never go to her house without my Rosary or blessing myself with holy water. now i pray for Christ to destroy anything that is evil and occult that has been placed upon my husband, me, us, our families and friends. im more at peace when i dont have to be there…
my question to all of you is, what do i do? visit? dont visit? what is the RIGHT thing to do?? the Christian thing to do?

I deleted some bits of the OP to make it shorter and I have put in bold the reasons why I think she should stay away from this woman.

She does not feel right about being around her and the things that she does. This is reasoning that can be applied to many situations, not just “religious”.

The major problem is not whether or not to visit. Your husband and his friends, according to what you have said treat this woman as if she was their mother and seem to be even more loyal or giving to her than their own biological parents. She gave your husband something that made you uneasy at a time prior to your marriage. Unfortunately, that didn’t appear to be an issue for you then (or you didn’t bring it up at the time or previous to marriage), but it became an issue when it was in your home. It meant so much to you that you tried to dispose of it behind his back. It meant so much to him that he retrived it. That could just be that he didn’t want you to dispose of something of his, but I see that the issue here is really not whether you should visit this woman’s house but that you and your husband are not of the same mind regarding this woman and her what she does. Eventually this may come between you in a big way.

Also, this woman is obviously saying that you are part of *her *family. The way I see it you have your family of origin and he has his family of origin and now you have come together as your own family - but she is not your family. She is just a friend of your family. And certainly not as close as a godmother would be. I think that part of the reason you might not be comfortable with this woman is because you know deep inside that you and your husband should be on the same page and be building a family together and this woman is a strong outside influence. Thinking that perhaps you may have been pregnant brings this issue to the forefront in your mind. After all, you must be wondering how involved will she become with an eventual pregnancy and with your child.

I’m saying all this because I want to take the Wiccan thing out of the equation and look at this purely an issue with a “family friend”. Something is wrong if you don’t feel right about having this woman involved in your lives, but your husband is very okay with it. In my opinion, you should see a good counselor together. If you can’t get him to go, go yourself. Call Catholic Charities and see what they have to offer. The one in my Diocese has very good counselors who don’t make it all about religion, but will allow you to explore your feelings about that as part of the process.

So are you saying people should be willing to play on a ouija board or practice divination? Are you not advocating this person should sin by “recourse to a mediums” ie. a person who tell you that you are pregnant and are going to have a boy. There is real danger in wrong relationships that one might be to influenced and manipulated in to offending God.

so, my husband’s best friends mother (who is the “family” friend) is VERY wiccan. shes now about 50 yrs old and has been a witch for i would guess a good 90% of her life. now, i have mixed feelings about this because as a person i love her and respect her, however(!) there are times when i cannot go to her house.

Firstly, my own sister in law was a Wiccan and my brother followed her into that way of life. Secondly, I am told that there are two forms of witch, commonly black and white witches, who acknowledge the earth mother or goddes, and use her powers relating to the creation.

However, Wiccans revere only the created universe and the created goddess; it is a form of worship that misses its mark, as it has no place in it for the creator, Almighty God; it certainly has no place in it for Jesus.

Apparently, Wiccans also rely upon the “feelings” they receive about people. This being the case, you should take seriously the f"eelings" you have about this lady, and be very cautious. Whatever she says to you, remember that our God is the Almighty God; and that EVERY knee shall bow at the name of Jesus - even the demons in the Gospels admitted that they knew who he was. Make sure you pray every time before you go to see her or visit her house

You came across this all by accident did you? Sorry, but I don’t believe that for one second. More likely you want to know who is giving your wife good advice…fair enough. We’ll give you some too if you’ll listen.
Please tell me when was the last time the Wiccan’s went on a crusade and burned thousands of Christians’ at the stake? Or when they sent their legions out to conquer our heathen Christian lands? (I mean Wiccans, not Muslims…)
Isn’t this point kind of cliched by now? What has the crusades got to do with you forcing your wife to be in the presence of someone she is obviously uncomfortable with?
The warfare today between the Christians and others is not the physical kind. It is a spiritual battle for the souls of men.
Wiccan beliefs and practices have predated Christrianity and Judaism. Their people were also butchered by the Christians simply because they had different views. So I can kind of understand where her disdain for Christians comes from.
Of course there are beliefs which predate Christianity. One of the reasons God sent His only Son was to stop the worship of false idols. Your second sentence could equally read “The Christians were also butchered by people simply because they had different views.”
But rather than avoiding her like the plague, would it not be better to be near her and actually show her what Christians are really about?
Not if it is making your wife uncomfortable and unhappy. Why do you need so bad for her to go with you to this persons house? She is not your family, just the mother of a friend. So why involve your wife at all? To an outsider like me it looks like you are making your wife unhappy to put the feelings and wishes of another woman over her. I am not saying there is anything untoward going on, but I presume you love your wife so why put her through this?
So to say never go there again and never speak with her again, how could that even REMOTELY echo the teachings of our Lord?

No, please understand I am not condoning his behavior.
My brother is not allowed in my home, and he is only allowed to see my children when it is supervised by us.
He understands that his beliefs conflict with my own, and that I cannot willingly allow something that does not serve God into my home or around my kids.
He is is own person, I cannot force him to give up his ways. The line is thin, but there is a difference between condoning his behavior and biding my time. I have time on my side. If I am consistent and speak the truth, he will eventually see the cracks in his own faith and realize there is only one God and that he is loved.
This is the beauty of Christianity, we don’t have to push it on anyone, it is self attesting and proves itself. All we have to do do is embody His word!
All of our protestant evangelical friends who feel that have to save souls are only undercutting the true power of God and serving to drive non-Christians away. God can take care of this - he speaks to us all.
For anyone who feels threatened by being in the presence of evil only need to read the book of Job. God protects His own. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear NO evil. We all must have the faith of Job in this world in these times.

I think I get your line of thinking now. I believe you are right in treating your brother with kindness in his journey or misadventure. I say a prayer for your brother also. Praise the Lord he has you to show him the way . I’m relieved that you will protect your children from his influence. I know how difficult that can be. But for those like the OP who do not have to put themselves and their children in harms way it’s just best to avoid those situations. That is why I suggested the guidance of the CCC.

Welcome I think it’s a great site also. You computer skills seem ok to me. There is a lot you can learn here from some extraordinary smart people but be aware there are also mischief makers who also monitor and post here. enjoy Praise Jesus
 
Although Wiccans worship nature, the actioins of this group very closely mimics the list of what not to do in the old Testament. It even mentions those who worship trees.
Wiccans sometimes dabble in Astrology, be careful of that as well:-)
 
Be careful not to let religious fanaticism cause you to imagine things. Although this lady has beliefs that differ from yours, she can’t be bad if she has taught her sons to respect and cater to her. Most parents would give their eye teeth to learn how to earn the same respect from their sons.

I don’t believe God will judge anyone by the “flag” they stand under. He’s more likely to judge them by the light that literally exudes from their bodies as a result of the incredible kindness, courtesy, caring, respect, decency, and love they have shown for others.

Although many religions condemn others (basically in order to stem competition) in my eyes, the bible are about nothing other than the display of the above qualities to others.

Forget that the woman is Wiccan and be especially cautious that you aren’t imagining terrible things about a person who is truly beautiful inside. If she gave you a basket of goodies from her own religion, she meant to show you love and kindness, just as you would’ve meant if you had offered her a prayer from your religion.

While she obviously meant well, she may not have realized that the offer might have been perceived as an attempt to convert you. Don’t worry about attempts to convert you. If your beliefs are strong you never need to feel threatened by such attempts.

Christianity is best promoted by showing love and respect for others. Little can be achieved by showing disdain, disrespect, or fear. Jesus himself was aware of that when he chose to show kindness to even those he felt were sinners by inviting them to his table. What an incredible guy!

The scripture says a lot of things which are confusing and lead people to disagree with one another.

It also says, in summary, that you treat others with the same love and respect Jesus did, answers to many of your questions will automatically be answered leaving not only you, but also others you associate with, with a better, happier, healthier, and more contented peace of mind.

Again, Jesus invited the sinners to sit with him at his table. He didn’t go around promoting hatred and rejection of those he considered to be sinners. Instead, he caused them to want to become exactly like him by displaying love, respect, and concern.

I didn’t see anyone say not to be kind to her. We go to church and read the scriptures to learn what is pleasing to God and what is not

Our Pope is the bottom line on what the scriptures mean. We don’t decide it for ourselves…Catholicim is based on the 10 commandments and how they are interpreted by Holy Mother Church

We are not free to pick and choose what we will obey and what we will ingore…Worshiping anyone or anything other than the Blessed Trinity is a sin…We are to avoid all near occasions of sin
 
I was wiccan for a very long time.It eventually led me to Catholicism(believe it or not).Any wiccan who takes it seriously already knows that their ‘goddess’ is a forshadowing of Our Mother.The entire pagan thing is a forshadowing of Jesus.The thing they choose to ignore is that Jesus’ mission put an end to all that stuff by becoming the ultimate sacrifice and pretty much ‘saving’ anyone who would recognize Him. The similarities are often used as an argument against Catholicism by modern protestants as a political maneuver to keep members in their own pews,completely ignoring the plea from Paul in I Cor. chapter 1 before he breaks into the sexually immorality stuff when he talks about who was baptized by who(Denominations).I think that the best bet when dealing with someone of pagan persuasion is to happily point out the similarities between their goddess & Our Mother,& to actually secretly fast & pray many rosaries for them. How am I doing? I hope this doesn’t offend anyone.Just remember, it is a spirit of rebellion which works in these neopagans.St.Patrick was successful with the very same technique in his time.Very few of us will probably ever be canonized,but nevertheless,we ARE saints(with a small’s’) and the very tools at their disposal are also available to us.
