Steve O'Brien:
We U.S. Catholics should start laying the intellectual and practical groundwork for the eventual emergence of military commanders who *would *obey orders to shut down abortuaries. We should start now.
Thats the last thing you want: the military policing the US.

Please review the Posse Comitatus act of 1878. Your statements are quite worrisome to me as you seem to be advocating what amounts to fascism with a Catholic face.

In 1957, President Dwight David Eisenhowever ordered the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock, Arkansas, to protect the right of black students to attend Central High School. This was certainly an example of the “military policing the U.S.”

What’s more serious? To be deprived of the right to racially integrated schooling, or to be deprived of the right to be born?

How many of you would have objected if Governor Jeb Bush had ordered the Florida National Guard to save the life of Terri Schindler-Schiavo? (There’s no doubt that that’s what he ought to have done.)

You Catholics are confusing me!

Keep and spread the Faith.

Saving the lives of unborn children is fascism?

Now I’m more confused than ever!

Keep and spread the Faith.

How many of the maimed soldiers are glad we went to Iraq? How many of the legless think it was worth the effort?

Why did we go to Iraq again? Was it the WMDs, or was it Iraq’s involvement in 9/11? I can’t remember.

Yeah, one time in one place. To stop abortion clinics you’ll need thousands of soldiers at thousands of locations.

I definately belive abortion is more heinous, but you don’t cure the headache by cutting off the head.

Probably a lot of people, including a good portion of pro-lifers.

You’re entitled to your opinion.

That’s one reason why U.S. troops should be brought home from Iraq immediately.

To be used against abortion clinics?

Steve O'Brien:
According to the official teaching of the Catholic Church, a law permitting attacks on the lives of the innocent is not really a law, but an act of violence. Please see section 1902 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

We U.S. Catholics should start laying the intellectual and practical groundwork for the eventual emergence of military commanders who *would * obey orders to shut down abortuaries. We should start now.

If we fail to do this, how can we logically and coherently say, with Pope John Paul II, that abortion is murder?

Keep and spread the Faith.
How much force have you personally used to keep someone from getting an abortion? Since you are not in prison my guess is none.

Steve O'Brien:
U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq immediately and brought home to save the lives of unborn Americans by closing down the abortuaries.
I have a better idea. All those armchair quarterbacks should donate the money the spend every morning on lattes to Priests for Life and then start a pro-life community in each of their parishes. If they are not Catholic then they should either become Catholic or work ecumenically with the Catholic prolife movement.

Talk is cheap. If you want pro-life then the place to start is with your own life. That is what God has put in front of you. Your own life.

OK. I’ll bite. It’s your idea. Therefore you set forth the critical path from where we are now to where you want the military commanders to be. How do you propose we get from here to there? And please describe ‘there’ in detail. What’s the plan, Stan?

Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

So we should all remember: Don’t invade a country without cause.

General Reminder:

No personal attacks please or the thread will be locked down.

People need to be able to defend their positions, but please be polite when asking them to do so.

Also please realize this is a Catholic forum. Please try to reflect Catholic teaching in your posts. Citing Catholic papers on the subject helps others to become educated on the matter.

I’d like to respond to the request for a detailed program of Catholic Action.

We should implement the entire authentic message of Our Lady of Fatima. For details, please see this Web site:

Above all, we must implore the Holy Father and all the bishops of the world to carry out the collegial consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The resulting conversion of Russia to the Catholic Faith would make it easier for us to spread the Faith in the United States and gradually transform our country into a Catholic nation that recognizes the social reign of Christ the King. Canadian Catholics (who, nominally, represent about half of Canada) should do the same thing in their country.

In a nation that has an overwhelming majority of committed Catholics and that officially confesses the true Faith, the unspeakable evil of legalized abortion couldn’t exist. Even pending the conversion of the United States and Canada, the active spreading of the Faith would be accompanied by the emergence of many civilian, police, and military officials who would be more than merely nominal Catholics. Such officials would be willing to use their authority to shut down abortuaries and enforce laws protecting unborn children from abortionists.

I recommend Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical Immortale Dei, which deals with the official Catholic position “on the Christian constitution of states”:

Steve,

What does this have to do with the subject of the thread?

Please see post #8:

"U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq immediately and brought home to save the lives of unborn Americans by closing down the abortuaries."

The fact that most American Catholics are not thinking along these lines when they consider the occupation of Iraq shows that they are paying more attention to an abortion-sanctioning government than they are to the one true Church.

In adopting this myopic perspective, these Catholics are disregarding the teaching that the Church sets forth in sections 450 and 2242 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (to say nothing of the Church’s teaching on warfare in *CCC * 2309).

Keep and spread the Faith.

First of all the days Catholocism being a state religion are gone! Catholocism is not even the state religion of the Italian republc anymore.
Second Catholics are loyal to the United States whether we like all its laws or not. To incite the armed forces to act against the Republic is Treason !
Anti-abortion fanatics were an embarassment to Catholics in that circus they ran in Florida . Wearing a Roman Collar or Franciscan habit doesn’t give one the right to make wild accusations with no proof !
The Majority of Americans want abortion.Thats a fact, they want it regulated and controled, but. They want it.
Catholics fought long and hard to be accepted as real Americans and not as some foreign presance in this country. We are not about to let some missguided extremists destroy that.
