Hang on a minute, I’m having some difficulty understanding this. If I read the article and subsequent judgement correctly, the Archdiocese was not aware of this priests behaviour and was therefore not in a position to do anything about it. The victim, “A” initially did not understand what was happening (not an unusual situation) and when he did, was frightened into thinking nobody would believe him, (again not unusual). If this was the case, how can the Church be liable? Is a school liable if a teacher does the same? Is an employer liable when his employee beats up his kids or wife?
I have a nasty feeling somethings out of kilter here!!! Seems the compensation culture has spread.
