David Paul-
Help me out here, why did the White house on July 8, 2003 admit the information was incorrect regarding the yellow cake/Niger connection and that it should not have been used in the State of the Union? Yes, I understand The Financial Times had an unnamed source saying it was POSSIBLE Iraq along with 4 other countries tried to secure yellow cake between 1999 to 2001. But why would the White House admit it knew the Niger connection had been disproven by our own CIA if it really thought there was contradictary intellegence to prove their original position. Just think, the administration admitted a mistake! Do you have anything from the White House indicating they were right all along?
Back to my main point, the White House has hyped the intelligence from day one and manipulated us into a war that would not have been engaged if they had had the intergrity to sell the real reason to the American People. And before you label me a leftist, the real reason we went to war was to establish a Democracy in the Middle East(not WMD’s) in hopes of turning both the hearts and minds of mainstream Arabs and they would in turn handle the so called fringe elements in their own society. Therefore making the Middle East safer. Grand idealism that smells of Imperialism, and honestly, it just may work if we are willing to go to every country in the Middle East and overthrow their established yet non-democratic governments. We would also bear the financial burdens and military dead to accomplish such ideas.
I voted for the President in 2000 and supported the President when we started this endeavor. In fact, I don’t label him as a nitwit or dummy considering his degree from Yale and being able to make it through the Air Force flight training and not to mention his political rise. However, he has been influenced by the Neo-Cons into some very poor decisions, or maybe choices is a better word to describe this particular war. I understand the threat these Radical Islamic Terrorists present to us long term especially economically to our very way of life, yet I cannot and will not give this man the benefit of doubt anymore because he has been less than honest and I have been manipulated by the lies or Karl Rove.
Lastly, make any comparison you would like to the former President Clinton and how he ran his administration. I never voted for the man and considered him the top bird on the totem pole of moral relativism. But my biggest fear is that the President has so motivated this country in the wrong direction that the natural reaction will bring us a third Clinton administration in '08.
