**More evidences, not for me though. **
Two new mass graves were discovered yesterday, one in Irbil and one in Kut.
The Iraqi authority announced that a mass grave containing the remains of 13 people was discovered yesterday. One of the locals said that he had seen cars and trucks come to the place in question at night and leave in the morning for several days shortly after the 1991 uprising, which may mean that there are other mass graves in the area.

A spokesman for the human rights ministry in the regional government of Kurdistan announced that a mass grave containing the remains of dozens of Kurds were discovered while an electricity company was working near a building that used to be a headquarters for Saddam’s military intelligence before 1991. The spokesman added that, “Among the bodies were 10 children, all shot in the head”.

During the last couple of weeks I’ve seen on Iraqi TV, Al Iraqiya, reports about two other mass graves in Diwaniya and Samawa. It’s believed that all these date back to the year 1991 during which the She’at and Kurds carried out the uprising against Saddam.
I just want to say that these reports show that what has been discovered till now is probably the tip of an iceberg. I think the discovering of more mass graves in a short time lately comes as a result of the increasing number of reconstruction projects being started and to the rehabilitation done on and around some of the old government offices that were still untouched. In fact some of the old government offices and Ba’ath party headquarters are now occupied by homeless people who refuse to evacuate them despite repeated notifications and warnings from the government.
It also seems to me that some westerns think that the mass graves contain all Sadam victims or at least the vast majority. This is of course not true, as executions were a common practice in Iraq and in most cases they were announced and bodies returned to families’ victims. The mass graves were reserved for exceptionally high number of victims that Saddam feared might cause some problems if being announced.
Still, the mass graves are now the most striking evidence of Saddam’s regime brutality and they show in a way the size of death and destruction this regime was bringing to Iraq on a daily basis. I say they show, and I mean to the rest of the world, as we don’t need any evidence to tell us we were living in Hell.
