More Minnesota dissent

Maybe Archbishop Harry Flynn should be paying closer attention to the heterodoxy of priests in his archdiocese rather than silencing the orthodox. For example, what about Fr. Leo Tibesar, director of the Engaged Couples Preparation Program in the archdiocese? Take a close look at his photo.

Now look at the national board of the heterodox DignityUSA. Is that not the same Leo Tibesar, albeit without the title of “Father”?

So Father Robert Altier can’t be on Relevant Radio, but Tibesar can be on the national board of DignityUSA. As I said, a double standard.

Fr. Leo J. Tibesar, M.A.

Fr. Tibesar moderated the Family Life Commission of the Archdiocese founded by Coadjutor Archbishop Leo Byrne in 1972. Fr. Tibesar was also chair of the Interreligious Committee on Family Life from 1980-1983 and Governor Al Quie’s Advisory Committee on Families. 1981-1982. He has been the director of the Engaged Couples Program since 1987. His Introductory and Concluding remarks include the Church’s understanding of the sacramentality of Christian marriage. The Sunday Mass celebrated by Fr. Tibesar offers a unique opportunity to reflect with the couples over the seasons of the Church year on the various ways that the incarnate and redemptive Christ is present to support and deepen the faith- filled bond of married couples.

They surely do seem to be the same person. What is Dignity?
That all being said, I would hesitate to take sides in the Flynn/Alteir situation until either Bp. Flynn or Fr. Alteir explains what is going on. We had a young assistant, Fr. Ryan Erickson, who had all the outward appearances of being a holy orthodox priest wore a cassock, led a tour to Rome, and preached sin, hell, and damnation. He ended up being tagged as a practicing ephebophile and has been found to be the probable murderer of two young men in our parish one of whom it is claimed threatened to expose him. Before they could have a trial he committed suicide. I am not saying or even suggesting that Fr. Alteir has any similar problems, I am just saying it pays to hold your water until the facts eventually out.

He “Seems” to be the same person?!?!?

PLEASE!

God forbid we speak the truth here, but It IS the same person.

What on earth is happening to our Church??

How many Catholics leave our church because the ‘exact’ teachings they were raised with aren’t so ‘exact’ anymore?

I struggle with these things and pray that our Lord hold me closer to my faith when I encounter things like this. Well, not things as blatant as this - but close.

When my wife was going through RCIA, and beginning to serve in certain Catholic missions in my church, she had occasion to be ‘trained’ by a woman who BRAGGED that she was about to receive her FIFTH annulment from the priest who was to marry us so that she could marry yet a SIXTH time.

I cautioned my wife not to ‘judge’ this person or her situation, the priest, or my church - but COME ON!

If the rules don’t apply, what is the point?

These are the types of thing that rock my foundation the most… But I guess its part of being a flawed human myself…

I would very much like an authority who reads this to explain what is happening and how I can learn not to be so effected by these type of things.

The Church in the US is far different from Churches here in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. I’ve been to a few churches in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Florida and Connecticut, before moving to Puerto Rico. I see a huge difference as far as a priest’s conduct. In the US I’ve seen Priests act disorderly and involve themselves in many organizations that would raise suspicions and could stain the fabric of the Catholic Church.

Come on guys. People are watching and ready to use anything to fuel the whole Anti-Catholic movement.

Stuff like this, and the other stuff that is happening in the courts, kind of puts a black eye on the Catholic Church. Instead of trying to spread the faith and religion, I have to defend it.

I am sure if Fr. Altier had committed or was accused of anything similar to those actions we would already know and he would be suspended or jailed. You must understand Fr. Altier is simply ‘silenced.’

Likewise several Bishops attempted and were somewhat successful in silencing Mother Angelica. The strength of their hatred of her was amazing. You would think that she was some sort of mass murderer! It is very simple: the “little nun with a big mouth” was ruining their fun. Interfering with the nationwide plan of changing the faith - in parish life, the mass, catechesis…all of it.

Similarly, we had a popular, well spoken, educated priest with a mass media outlet - nationwide in scope - who was causing ordinary people to dare to “question” their pastor and bishops - both their words, actions, and motives.

Why was he silenced? What did he teach?

Never meant to imply in any way that Fr. Alteir was involved in any way with what Fr Erickson was accused of. All I said or meant to say is that things can look very orthodox, but that is no way to judge what else may be going on. Many of us in the parish think that some of the charges, particularly the murders are frame jobs. As they say one cannot judge a book by its cover. The Bishop has his reasons and we are not privy to them. It is very unlikely to be any serious or even a minor crime.

Dignity USA is a homosexual activist group that trys to pass itself off as Catholic, but teachs against the Catholic position on homosexuality.

The organization not only seeks to affirm homosexuals in their actions, and is actively involved in undermining Church teaching on the subject.

The orthodox ministry to those who are afflicted with homosexual tendencies is called CourageRC, which seeks to assist those so afflicted with living a chaste life.
