of an issue - I agree with Cruise. All he is saying is that these drugs do not TREAT - they mask the symptoms. They do not HEAL - they create financial market for drugs companies.

Frankly, I think that the entire interview was bad. Lower was rude, uninformed and interrogating a guest on his show. Cruise came to talk about his new movie, not debate medicine.

I’m confused by all this talk about Cruise and Katie too. What’s the big deal? The age difference? Come on! THAT’s certainly nothing new to society and she is certainly of age. The difference of faith? Well, of course we all want to raise good catholic children who grow up to marry good catholic spouses and make more catholic babies. Who knows? Maybe that will happen for Katie yet - many a man has found faith through the devotion of a Godly wife. I can only assume that I don’t know anything about their relationship - especially if it’s based on media sources!

Geez, isn’t there a war going on? Global warming? A traffic jam downtown? Any of which has got to be more important to my life than Cruise’s love life.

Once again… I’ll be ducking for cover from all the flames!😛
Does that mean your a flamer?

Cruise is an interesting cat… he was VERY Catholic and was in high school seminary to be a Priest back in the 1970’s. He fell into Scientology in 1984 and has been a part of that ever since.

I’m not even going so far as to refute him – I don’t even want to listen to him discuss medical conditions.

Sorry, it’s just this thing I have about celebrities thinking that because they are rich/famous/whatever, that they are automatically qualified to speak out on fields such as medicine, and that we should want to listen to them. 🙂

👍 I agree.

No one will flame you for giving your opinion. Though it is humorous that you remind us of more serious things while posting on this subject.😉 Isn’t that a bit like saying that you hate celebrity gossip while reading an Enquiror in the check out lane?🙂

It would be wonderful is Katie influences him. She has said that she will give scientology a chance and is eager to learn about it, so I am afraid that opposite will happen.

Zooey has posted some interesting links on Scientology. Apparently they believe that a space alien called xenu …oh, its just to weird to go into to.

So being a celebrity qualifies Tom Cruise to speak about psychiatry. Some cases of depression are medical illnesses – a psychiatrist is a medical doctor.
Gotta love Hollywood.

Ah, yes, the old cerebrity activism claim: “I’m not an actual ‘expert’, but I played one in a movie once, so I’m qualified enough to discuss and argue this issue intelligently.”

By the way, does anyone here know of any followers of Scientology outside of Hollyweird?

My thoughts about this is that Tom Cruise should be more responsible. He speaks adamantly about something he is not qualified to speak about. He speaks as if his words are fact. While I can agree that drugs are overly perscribed and not used as a last resort for the most part it seems, I know several people close to me that have turned to a drug ONLY as a last resort and it worked for them. Psychiatrists have helped hundreds of thousands of people in many differennt ways. To say that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance, that you can overcome any mental condition with exercise and vitamins tells me that most likely Mr. Cruise has never experienced any mental conditions that affected his life at all and that is why he is so dismissive concerning this topic. What, I wonder would have happened if for example Brooke Shields had NOT seeked help from a qualified Psychiatrist? What might have happened to her baby as a result? My MIL suffered post-partum depression badly and she was perscribed a drug that helped her. She was not on it for the rest of her life but it certainly got her through this very scary and difficult time in her life.

I’m not sure he was saying that ALL mental disorders can be cured with vitamins and will power. I think he was saying that medication generally does more harm than good for mental disorders. There are many examples that would support this claim. If I have not categorized his position properly then please correct me. Otherwise, I tend to agree with this specific and particular position.
He was stating the scientology position, which is that all mental illness is caused by the influence of space aliens. The $ci remedy is to give people massive (toxic level) doses of niacin, & put them in a sauna until they pass out, which is supposed to dislodge the “thetans”. They do this for physical illness also, in people of all ages, including children as young as 3 years.
People who have what used to be called a nervous breakdown are locked in a dark room until they “find their disconnect”. (Apparently, recover or die…several people have died, in fact).
Please find out more about this so-called “religion”…I have been looking at it with horror for many years. The more I see, the more I realize how truly diabolical this cult is.
God bless.

Matt’s interview with Cruise has set off a debate among medical reseachers. Some now believe Prozac isn’t a drug at all but is actually a vitamin and Tom Cruise is suffering from a lack of it.

My mother said she saw him, and he acted like a complete idiot. From the transcript it was hard to say what was going on, but my mom said he appeared to be intentionally trying to provoke Lower and Lower wasn’t going to comply.

I’m pretty sure Cruise suffers from delusions, clearly sue to mental illness brought about by a Chemical Imbalance of some sort. 👍

If he paid me about $10,000 a week I could get him on a vitamin regimen. The poor thing is obviously neglected but he can buy my care. 🙂

I think he is simply going through a midlife crisis…still wants to be 25, but knows he is now into his forties. That is very hard to take for a man that is seen as the stud of Hollywood and “Mr. Top Gun.”

I feel terrible for Katie.

Its called inflated pride, believing your own press releases.

no…I would not say cynical…c’est logique… 😛
Nope. Not logical. If Tom Cruise said that the sky is blue (and that is certainly not what he said), then he’d be right.

Believe me, I have I have no interest in giving scientology credibility. I already know what religion is true. I’ll get to researching it when I’m done with Protestantism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Atheism, Mormonism…

I understand your concern. I’m just pointing out that he didn’t suggest those crazy things.

Would you also say your’e being pedantic 😃

Scientology doesn’t need much study to realize what it is…however with regards to T.Cruise …when someone acts the way this guy does…you would tend to disregard the other things he says…you wouldn’t listen to him.

the shame of it is that tom was raised catholic and so was katie.(according to the press i’ve read)I’ve seen mr. cruise on “the veiw” and he was equally wired. I’m not a psychologist but he seems to show signs of a person with an anxiety disorder{the innability to sit still}. I wouldn’t give him a cup of coffee! He is 42 years old and is jumping on sofas? He did this both on ‘the veiw’ and “oprah”.

After reading the transcripts of the matt lauer interview, it seem obvious that his train of thought was hardly linear. I’d say, he needs our prayers. That he return to Holy Mother Church and The TRUTH. We can pray that he grasp the Truth of Jesus Christ, which he had at his fingertip in his earlier life , but he let go of it in favor of some experimental religion. May God help him and katie, as only He can do.

If only every one of us on this thread says a prayer for tom and katie, that they shall know the truth and the truth will set them free. May we intercede for them , for ‘they know not what they do.’ May God bless and keep them near His sacred heart until they come home.

I wonder why TC cannot see how ridiculous he has looked recently? He is not exactly helping his image with al of his confusing and childish antics.

I don’t “listen” to him, believe me. If the issue was regarding someone saying we should eat acorns, I wouldn’t care. However, people are discounting what he said at the expense of some important truths.

However, you do have a point. I did tune out John Kerry very quickely. 🙂
