I don’t subscribe to any major news source. My admittedly flippent comments were directed at the typical response seen on the board when the media reports about the Catholic faith. The TIME story did not bash the Church, so I just made note of it. Like you, I couldn’t pass it up.

In total agreement! 👍

mutters under breath I hate Newsweek

Is Karen Armstrong opposed to women entering the convent?
Can’t really say for sure but in my humble opinion she is an disgruntled ex nun turned Islam apologist that spends time blaming the RCC for the world’s ills.

The fastest way to kill an order of Nuns is to stop wearing Habits. A girl who is discerning the religious life is for the most part only going to be drawn to an order that wears Habits. Why? Wearing the Habit is a visible sign of who they are and what they represent. A nun wearing a lapel pin doesn’t look any different than any other women sitting in Church. The same goes for a Priest wearing clerics. The collar represents that he has given his life to serve the people and that he is a spiritual leader within the Church. Take the collar off and the priest looks like no different than any other man walking down the street.

From the new article:
It wasn’t just Sister Christina; many young women who enter the monastery have difficulty with obedience, says Mother Jude, and it causes friction between the older and younger women.
The older Poor Clares - the average age is in the 50s - are used to the strict schedule that revolves around prayer and work, the close quarters, the silence. Gen-Xers, however, come from a fast-paced life. They often have less of a family structure than the older nuns did and so might not have been taught skills - such as ironing or proper table manners - that the older nuns were.
Its interesting that there is something of a generation gap between the younger sisters and the older ones. I guess that gap developed in the 1970s, 80s and 90s when there may have been fewer postulants.

Can you tell us more about this order? I just got some info from them in the mail but have never heard of them before. I was specifically interested in why the Foundress started a new order.
Thanks.
My niece is in this order, too. She teaches 2nd grade.

Good news indeed. Is Karen Armstrong opposed to women entering the convent?
Karen allah-kabala-Armstrong was an Anglican nun.

Hmmmm. Let’s not sully our good sisters over here without separating that chaff from our wheat!
