Mormom belief: Jesus was in the Americas.

What makes you think that because Jesus ascended to heaven, he cannot descend again? How did Paul see him (Acts 23:11), if he couldn’t descend again?
Weak! And what makes you think that if Paul saw him and records it,but NO ONE soul in the Americas records Jesus visitation?

More Mormon fairy tales.

According to the book of mormon, an israelite tribe around 600bc left jerusalem and traveled to the America’s. Where jewish traditions and customs were still taught and followed and the people there awaited the messiah just like the jews in Jerusalem.

And there were 12 disciples in the America’s once Christ came to visit, they weren’t called apostles because Christ already annointed His twelve.

And the book of mormon ends with a giant war that basically says the bad guys won and killed all the christians. that was around 400 or so ad and so any remnants of Christianity would have been distorted or destroyed.

This is all in the Book of Mormon.
Key words: This is all in the Book of Mormon. But not in any secular record I have ever encountered.

That is also a possibility. According to the D&C and the Book of Moses, there are many inhabited planets; and Jesus is the Savior and Redeemer of all of them, not just of the inhabitants of this planet. So he may very well have visited some of them too.
Pure speculation and conjecture.

Irishman -

Did they teach you that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri?
Yeah i’ve heard it in our little “cooler talks” in the foyer after church. It was in like Jackson County or something like that.

Yes Irishman. And there is no evidence of that Great War that killed millions. No human remains, no chariots, no swords, horses … no nothing.

Interesting though that horses and swords never came to the America’s until the Spanish arrived…after Columbus in 1492.

And the American Indian’s are the descendants of this winning race … despite now that genetics show that they come from Asia (over the land bridge that once existed between Alaska and Russia).

But it all goes back to there being a Great Apostasy in the early Church. This is false as well. The Church numbers grew greatly, guided by the Holy Spirit to all Truth.

Pork
I’m actually an archaeology major so finding artifacts and history of ancient civilizations really intrigues me.

There have been many MANY LDS archaeologists who have insisted that they won’t stop until they prove the book of mormon true! All pretty much turn Catholic haha. I’m not interested in proving the book of mormon true. But I would be interested in finding a giant graveyard where the battle occured and finding swords and breastplates and all manner of iron stuff. Since most of what is found in weapons so far have been made of bone or stone.

DNA has already proven they come from Asia so i’m not worried about that.

Thats why i put that last sentence in:thumbsup:
It is nothing but pure conjecture. I have my BA in History never in years of study did we discuss Jesus being the Americas. Please! My neighbor across the street is a JW and once told me the first JWs were from Egypt?

What a great opportunity to learn from the scriptures…

John 14:12 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
I suppose if you believe Smith is engaged in God’s work, which, no one does but Mormons. As a Catholic, I see Mormons are engaged in destroying Christ’s church, so, I don’t think Jesus was talking about destruction as a greater work than Himself.

I’m an archaeology major so I understand your pain.

:eek:Were they descendents of Moses’ brother or something? I have never heard that haha

I am telling you, I hear of some wacky and kooky beliefs from Mormons & JW’s.

I was told by an apologist that the horses were really tapirs. Anyone see a tapir? Laughable.

The fact the LDS Church will not excavate Cumorah is proof that the Church leaders KNOW the LDS Church is false

I actually asked my professor this question of why we don’t excavate Cumorah, want to know what he told me?

“The church doesn’t need to excavate Cumorah to know that that’s the resting place of thousands of nephites and lamanites. And besides, the beauty of the hill would be ruined and would no longer be a sacred landmark.”

u huh.

That is one of the worst answers ever.

If they excavated Cumorah and found the remains he says are there, the Church would see its members grow a lot…and inactives return. It would be the first real evidence that the Book of Mormon is true.

But, if they excavated and found nothing, the only members who would remain are the GAs…

the risk is greater than the potential gain

I recall having this same conversation with my mission president also and he told me that the church was really close to proving that the book of mormon is true through archaeology…that was 3 years ago.

I’m still waiting. In fact, if anything, it’s gotten worse with the book of Abraham being torn apart.

My mission pres said that in 1985 during a conference at the Mayan ruins in Honduras.

I, too, am still waiting.

To be honest, the church rely’s to much on “feelings” rather than logic and tangible evidence. It drives me crazy sometimes. :banghead:
