I sat here for five minutes trying to think of something appropriate to say to this.
There just isn’t anything one can say to an announcement like this: you are telling MEgus that you really can cut his tongue out because you have killed 54 people.
**Hi Dianaiad, 👋

Actually I was joking, but sometimes jokes don’t work well on the Internet. However yes, I was traind to kill and did it very well!, with all type of weapons and even open handed! But having been shot 3 times on 14 May 1966, I havn’t been fighting anything but physical pain every day for over 42 years now. That, of course is not counting the physiological pain all warriors carry with them through out their lifetime. It is part of having been a different person at a different time and place with different values and choices that had to be made! You wouldn’t be much help at a major car accident, I can tell!

RebeccaJ, Thank you! **👍

One of my buddies was over there – a sniper and he never ever talks about it, much less brag about how many people he killed. We were at war and it was a necessary evil, but is not something you brag about to show you are a “man”. Most real men do not have to go around trying to prove what they are.
**Hi mf, 👋

My friend, I am a combat-disabled Nam Vet. My only “visable” damage is my left hand! I was a Ranger! In our first fire fight in country, I lost over 30 buddies that I had trained with for over 2 years. They were all like my brothers! After 11 months of jungle warfare, I was hit three times and spend 14 months being put back together physically. Only Rambo heals while you are out getting popcorn! 🍿

I actually don’t talk or brag about Nam. Many people who have actually known me for years don’t know of my service much less my wounds. Most times Nam vets only talk about it to other Nam vets who were also in hell and understand! At the hospital today another Nam vet and I were talking, we had no signs proclaiming we were Nam vets, but we knew! We can spot each other across a crowded room most times. It is in the eyes!

Oh, by the way, out of my entire unit of over 145 men that went over together in 1965, only 3 of us made it back alive! I am also not saying that to brag about that. I think many of them, who did not come back deserved to live more than Idid! But God does what he desire and we survive the best we can. And another thing my friend, I actually killed more than 54.That is only the confirmed ones on my citations. I don’t have nothing to prove to anyone, much less you!

A very dear friend of mine of over 18 years passed away this morning at1AM. I am morning my lost. He is with God now and can pray for me that I also obtain eternal rest when it is my time!

You all are in my prayers! Lighten up, none of us are getting out of this world alive!

God is Good, even the Mormon’s gods whatever their names are!

God Bless**

MEgus,

First of all. How did you get out of what I wrote that ANY of scripture is not important? I did not say anything remotely close to that! What I did say, in answer to your question about the creation, is that I am not a fundamentalist. By that, I mean that I don’t believe the accounts in Genesis HAVE to be taken literally. And I certainly do not think we have to believe that the earth was literally created in six days. Do you?

I believe there are many many literary forms that appear in the Bible. Among them are myth, allegory, legend, debate, fiction, Gospel, parable, allegory, letter and apocalypse. Not only is it important to try and ascertain which literary form is being used to transmit what God wishes for us to know, it is also helpful to know what the beliefs of the people were at the time the passage was written. And why does the religious insight revealed in the passage bring growth to our understanding as compared to earlier ideas?

The reason it is unappealing to me to read scripture for personal spiritual insight without an understanding of the context in which it was written, is that I can see where that has lead to all kinds of misunderstanding and even abuse throughout history. So I find it helpful and even necessary to try and learn as much as I can about what I am reading. But I am just getting my feet wet, so to speak. I don’t have a huge grasp on the scriptures by any stretch of the imagination. I am falling more and more in love with the Bible every day. Becoming Catholic has not diminished my desire to know God’s word, (or Gods WORD) 🙂 in fact, being Catholic has only intensified that desire. The best part, the most amazing and awesome part, is that I feel closer to Him and His word than ever before in my life.

All Praise Honor and Glory to His name.

I hope this clears up the misunderstanding. The Bible is the word of God, and I do not brush any of it off. None of it is “suspect” to me. There is a purpose for the whole of it. There is much more I could write about why a person should not be afraid to study its pages with an understanding of the context in which they were written. Perhaps we can get into that further sometime here on the forum in another thread.

Now, I must tell you. I still do not see how, in reading Genesis, you come up with the idea that the first chapter is a spiritual account of creation, while the second is physical. That is exclusive to Mormon theology and the idea comes from the Pearl of Great Price not Genesis.

Peace to you,
Tami

Hi Truth, 👋

Not to get you in touoble with other posters but I agree with you 100%! Well said Tami. 👍 They have a lot of foolish beliefs which don’t make sense even to many of them actually! That is why their cult can’t last much longer. As it is, it is falling apart just like the Protestant groups are doing.

Only Truth can survive! 2,000 years and counting! God is indeed Good and praise worthly!

**Hi paul, 👋

Now that was funny! 😃 I hope dianaiad saw the humor in your remark!**
Actually, I was dead serious. God does zap people for their own good - to move them to repentance. You cannot read the bible (especially the OT) without seeing that.

20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
That is the Old Testament God. As mankind matures, his perception of God changes.

God bless you.

Yes, and the answer is 42, but…what was the question, again?
Stopped by to stir up some trouble – you think that’s bad,and want to talk about fish and numbers, look up the 153 fish caught in the gospel of John. Just google it and have some fun.

Proves (?) John had gnostic ties? Vesica piscis and all— who knows- I am pleading the 5th on that one.

But why DOES it say 153? Did they really count them and think it was important to include it for all the ages?

Father in law? Dang. I AM old.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, he’s a good 20 years older than what you might think are the oldest Vietnam vets. He speaks admirably of baby 18 yr olds saving his life. He also has a boatload of children, the tail end were born when he was pushing 50.

But yeah, you are old.

I was watching “Big Love” last night, and they did a baptism for the dead. Is this a common Mormon practice? I thought we were not supposed to communicate with the dead. Once people die it is up to God, Right? I was reading in 1 Corin 15:29, and in that Paul is clearly asking why they are Baptizing for the dead, when there was clearly a resurrection. It talks about baptizing everywhere in the bible, why wouldn’t the bible clearly state that we should also baptize for the dead as well? This sent chills down my spine when I watched that. For those of you who don’t know what Big Love is, it is a show on HBO about Mormons (polygamy practicing Mormons)

that is a VERY common rite BUT…it is always performed in LDS temples by temple worthy mormons. usually it is done by youth and in large numbers. a line of kids will go through the font, each one doing about 25 names in rapid succession. a computer monitor is there for the person doing the baptizing to read the names off of. it is nit communicating with the dead in any sense. it is just performing an ordinance by proxy. Mormons have misinterpreted that one scripture as a REQUIREMENT to baptize those who are dead and didn’t receive a mormon baptism on earth.
