But you just admitted that you ‘have no interest’ in those things and don’t read them.
Dang. you are making me pull out the OED: * 1. Attempted union or reconciliation of diverse or opposite tenets or practices, esp. in philosophy or religion;*
Attempting to combine the beliefs of the pagans one is pulling into Christianity with the new religion by converting their deities is a classic example of just that. It was a great idea, actually.
Diana, syncretism is taking two beliefs, or more, and merging those beliefs together. Santaria is a good example of this. A blend of African tribal religious beliefs and Catholicism. In this religion, it is neither its original African or Catholicism, it is a mix.
When the Catholic church evangelizes, she integrates existing cultures. It is a different model from mormonism, where you have people showing up in business suits in the jungle and telling them all good worship is done using piano music. We let the people in the jungle retain their culture. What we give them is the Truth of Who Jesus Christ is and what the Apostles taught.
St. Brigid WAS a pagan goddess. All beliefs and practices behind this pagan entity were replaced, not merged or mixed, when the people who worshiped this diety were evangelized and converted to Christ.
Do you need proof of this? Are Irish Catholics, Catholic, or pagan? Do they believe St Brigid is a goddess?
I say whatever Diana because you have a non-argument. Not even anything I can respond to because it is like you are telling me how wonderful it is that the sun rises in the west every morning. There is no telling Mormons anything, it is pointless, you believe what you want to believe, for
whatever reason. I have no idea.
How about that. Has the point been made?
No. You read Christian writing and apply Mormon thought, which, means you have not understood what you have read and certainly are not able to convey what the Christian writer meant.
So, no, I am not sure of what you are conveying is even accurate.
It is? And you don’t think that someone coming across that belief–who had not been carefully brought up and introduced to it, wouldn’t think that was just NUTS???
Diana, anyone who understand the truthfulness of the Trinity, and understand God to be Infinite, will have no problem whatsoever with Jesus being where and when He wanted to be. He taught this Himself, in different ways.
YOU think it has been so ‘proven.’ But it hasn’t been so proven either way.
Diana, I know it has been proven. The papyrus that is in your pearl of great price, that JS “translated” with all sorts of fantasy about kolob and crystal balls, has really been translated. It is a funeral document.
It is more illogical than having a God Who–for some unimaginable reason decided to create the entire universe in the utterance of a word all for this one group of people on this one planet on the edge of this one galaxy, among all the other stars, galaxies, worlds, suns, ALL of it…this is LOGICAL? What was He doing BEFORE? What will He do with US?
You can deal with these questions with faith.
Hi Diana, I know very well why God Created me and where He wants me to be. What will He do with US? What He has promised, bring us to everlasting life in His presence. I trust, with my entire heart and mind, that He knows my every need and so I do not need to worry that heaven will be anything less than what He has planned for us.
I don’t know why Mormons have this obsession with what God is doing and why. Do you not trust that He is good and is taking care of you?
Yes, I have FAITH and can use reason, to know that everything God does and has done is good. I can REASON, by His Sacrifice, that God wants and is able to show us His purposes and His perfection. My Faith is not blind.
“Just as the sun shines simultaneously on the tall cedars and on each little flower as though it were alone on the earth, so Our Lord is occupied particularly with each soul as though there were no others like it. And just as in nature all the seasons are arranged in such a way as to make the humblest daisy bloom on a set day, in the same way, everything works out for the good of each soul.”
This, Diana, was written by St. Thérèse, who we call Little Flower. She conveys what it means to be drawn more deeply to God, Who is Love.
