I talked to them once, it was pretty interesting. The fact is, in debate, the only way they can defend their religion’s doctrine is by saying something about how they “feel” it is right. Somehow, feeling seemed to them more reliable than history and logic. I wouldnt waste my time trying to talk with them again
MHT32,

The problem with their “feelings” argument is that now Mormon history is online on LDS websites. Every source I quoted came from an LDS website. All these strange beliefs are documented and available to anyone who knows what to look for.

But what I cant understand is if the information is there, why are they so stuck on their religion? I was a mormon briefly because some people told me to look into the religion and I did and left. Its there for all but all wont get it.

From a few I’ve spoken to, they are afraid of being shunned by their family and friends. They’d rather stay and not believe.

maltmom,

I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s very traumatic for those who come from a long line of Mormons to leave the LDS church. Leaving turns their lives upside down, and families may disown sons and daughters who leave. It’s a difficult situation and takes a great deal of courage and support, from the outside, to leave.

yes…

so many reasons it is so traumatic. Moreso than any other religion I think

Pepband Mom,
I can’t imagine working in a 95% Mormon environment for 14 years. You definitely needed a guardian angel. God does protect His children.

Hi Anna!

I was an awol Catholic college graduate that was partying on the weekends when I went to work for LDS Dr. He kept after me, asking pointed questions during surgery. “You’re a Catholic; do you know there is only 2 true churches: the RCC & the Ch of JCofLDS?” But the Catholic Church fell into apostasy…" on & on & on. I finally hit the Christian Bookstore & bought stuff to figure out what was up. I was always super suspicious but needed ammo. Lucky me - The book the Changing World of Mormonism by Jerold & Sandra Tanner - talked about history, complete with documents, got me on right track

I started back to Mass & found a rosary group, a Bible Study for young adults, then a Jesuit Study group for young adults on & on. So when got into the Jesuits study group, it really took off so I could defend myself. Dr managed to convert most Catholics that worked for him (sad) but he could never get me! A real disappointment I’m sure for him.

He died sometime back & hoped he remembered what I said: Some day you will know that I AM RIGHT as I looked squarely in his eyes with a big smile! Hope it turned out ok for him when he realized in death that godhood was NOT on the horizon & not an option… 😊

Wow. So glad you did your research and found your way back to Mass.

After my experience, I realized the importance of being firmly grounded in the Christian faith, and also researching the heresies that abound these days. Truth is powerful.

I hate hearing that Catholics converted to Mormonism.

Thanks for sharing,
Anna

Anna,

I don’t know if you have been following the latest Great Apostasy thread out there currently…we had a former Catholic come on showing so many ECF quotes proving Smith right. I answered him the best I could, but don’t know if he had already left.

I can pick up on a former Catholic because they retain this use of reason. I do not understand how they can reconcile early church history with early Mormon history that does not reflect the ECF’s at all.

Kathleen,
I haven’t been following that thread very closely. I really hate hearing a Catholic has converted to Mormonism. I would think Catholics would be the least vulnerable to the Mormon deception—at least well catechized Catholics anyway.

I’ll take a look.

Peace and blessings,
Anna

Kathleen,
See my Post #530. That’s really all I have the energy to say right now. I’m exhausted.

Peace and blessings to you my friend, 🙂

I saw an ad on Pandora Radio today for a mormon chat room which is available on the main mormon website.

I went ahead and visited to ask them some questions as well as try my hand at a bit of entry level apologetic’s. I ended up talking to two different people, who were very nice, but every time I go to what I thought was a good question they said they would email me some more information and that they had to go. They also offered to schedule a time to chat more later.

My question is, do you think this is a good use of my (or anyone’s) time, going to their chat service and trying to lead them to the Church? I understand that if you’re not strong in your faith it might not be a good idea, but for those of us who are I mean.

Any insight is appreciated. Also, if you think it is a good idea, maybe include some good questions to ask them as soon as you connect since they don’t seem to want to chat for too long to any one person.

Thanks!
My view has been and remains — those with questions are what my church believes, should go to mormon.org (it has a chat link, where you can ask questions) or speak with a active LDS member such as myself.
