Mormon Church changes to appeal to millenials?

Also, JS wrote several versions of his initial vision.
There are 8-10 versions of the first vision, not all first hand accounts. Seems if I remember correctly, 4 of them can be traced directly to Joe. Either way, here’s what is extremely curious to me. If I had seen God and Jesus Christ in person, I’d know pretty darn well what happened, even decades later. There wouldn’t be multiple stories that contradict each other in terms of why I went into the woods to pray, who I saw, what we talked about and how old I was. Such a fantastic event would be burned into my heart and mind for the days of my life.

But the witnesses of the Book of Mormon only saw things with their spiritual eyes or their eyes of discernment. It wasn’t a physical vision. I suppose Brother Joe may have experienced the same thing.

The same goes for seeing Nephi in his bedroom. Or was that Moroni? Awww shucks, they couldn’t decide on that one either.

I have a question for the Mormonites. If y’all were to determine that Joe was accurate in saying that it was Nephi who visited him 3 times in the night, would you have to lop off all the Moroni statues on your temples and make Nephi the new king of the hill?

Yes. And then go on to say the remaining participants (of mass murder mind you) lived out their days with guilt hanging over their heads! Yes they lived out their lives, raising their families and farming, when they should have been incarcerated. Though BY’s justice for murder was death…obviously there was a strong feeling that it was not really a problem.

Not to mention the kidnapping of about 20 children.

Just start explaining to people the statues are of Nephi. Who would know the diff.

A friend of ours, who is a musician and was visiting in SLC, asked us who the guy wearing a dress playing a horn was. Moronee.

Most of these are policy changes, not doctrinal in nature.
This happens in the Catholic church, too, so to me, this read like “ah, no big deal”

The only one that struck me as a big deal are the temple changes.

The others? Big whoop. (shrugs)

It was the temple changes that struck me as well as I noted in the OP. The other changes I just thought were interesting. I’ve only been out of the church for a little over 5 years and I already hardly recognize it anymore. Another change they made that I don’t remember seeing in the article was that adult men are no longer ordained high priests unless they are called to serve in bishoprics and higher leadership positions.

Also, isn’t there a new hymnal coming out? I wonder if they will continue singing praises to Brother Joe and other church presidents.
