Mitt Romney is a Mormon. They say he is a moderate.
The Mormon church does not believe in the same Jesus that christians do. Mormons will still call themselves christians, which they are not.
For example they teach God had sexual relations with Mary to make the body of Jesus. (Journal of Discourses, Vol.4,pg.218, 1857
Jesus was not able to cleanse us from all of our sins, Journal of Discourse, Vol.3, 247
Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers. Mormon Doctrine, pg.163
The first spirit born in heaven was Jesus. pg.129
God the Father has a body of flesh and bones.

This is just an example of their amazing beliefs.

Before you decide who to vote for, check out the Mormon doctrine, then decide.

I think the religious beliefs (or non-beliefs) of a Presidential candidate should have no bearing on his or her qualifications for becoming President.

Mormons are pro-life and pro-family. That is a lot better than most.

Romney has been both pro-abortion and pro-life. At the moment, he’s pro-life. Stay tuned.

There is no historic evidence that a deeply religious person is a better or worse president than a non-religious person. Therefore, there is no reason to worry about Romney’s religious affiliation or beliefs. It is unlikely that a truly religious person would make it to the Oval Office, though they like to play lip service when it is politically advantageous. Consider the last president.

Ronald Reagan was deeply religious, although in a personal way more than “organized” religion, but definitely Christian. He was also arguably the greatest and most effective president of the last 100 years.

Obama calls himself a Christian but numerous times in interviews has slipped and referred to himself as a Muslim. You think his religion does not matter? Why is Egypt destroyed? Why are we fighting an illegal war in Libya? Why are special favors and new laws for gays, for abortion and for contraception being forced on private religious institutions? Why are we in negotiations to withhold millions in foreign aid from tiny countries dependent on us unless they legalize abortion, sodomy and other things that are against their culture, yet they will starve without a few million dollars that is a pittance in our national debt. Why did the executive branch just order a targeted assassination of an American citizen, in violation of US law, International law and the Constitution, an act unprecedented in history?

I believe religion matters more than almost any other factor, because belief and integrity determine right action.

I have no problem with a Mormon as Potus. Not only do they have great morals and ethics, their religion couldn’t be more “All American”!!

Any concerns about his theology or Christology are between him and God, and not mine as an average citizen. It’s his positions on the issues that I care about.

If you’re going to assert such things, please provide quotations and references. Barack Obama is not a Muslim, and I’ve seen no evidence that Ronald Reagan was a deeply religious Christian. I admire many aspects of Reagan’s presidency, but as for his personal faith, I believe it reached the depths of paying lip service to the religious right.

And Reagan was equally arguably one of the worst, though not the worst. It just depends on your point of view, and who benefited from his policies.

Well, I don’t think anyone in their right mind would vote for a satan worshipper.

Consider that people will see a mormon in the white house and may come to think that his religion is worthy of consideration or that he has somehow been blessed because of his particular faith.

A mormon in the white house works to mainstream an apostate religion. God’s kingdom comes first for me.

Mormons are already mainstream. (whatever that means). Despite the faith’s North American orientation, it is already in most of the world.

I have never heard of anybody converting to a religion because it is held by a US President.

And per your argument, shouldn’t you withhold voting for any non-Catholic candidate? In effect, sitting out nearly all national elections?

I completely disagree with this quote:
“Faced with the choice of voting for a pro-life polytheist-claiming-to-be-Christian or a pro-abortion whatever, I might well choose to simply sit out that race and refrain from voting for either candidate, because voting either way would mean doing massive damage to America.”
You will have to take it up with him…not my words 🙂

(and readers will need to read the entire article for the context of course)

I understand that they’re not your words. I’m just saying I disagree with them.

I would eagerly vote for a practicing Druid if it meant putting a new person
in the White House.

A persons religion has very little to do with whether or not I would consider voting for them.

I would certainly consider voting for Mitt Romney, and I WOULD vote for him if he attains the Republican nomination and Mr. Obama has the Democratic nomination.

To attempt to utilize a person’s religion to deny them a political office in the United States of America is against the spirit of the Constitution, which specifically prohibits any religious test for election to any Federal office.

To use his religion against Mr. Romney is no less wrong than it was to use Al Smith’s Catholic religion against HIM in the 1928 Presidential election. It is widely acknowledged that his religion was the number one reason why people refused to vote for him, especially in the normally (at that time) solid Democratic voting Southern States. Instead, he lost in virtually all of them, the ONLY Democrat to do so between 1870 and 1964.
