But at least I have been honest with who I am. Your posts are disrespectful toward not only the mormon church but toward mormons in general when you generalize conspiracy theories among the lds and its missionaries. You show no ‘collective guilt’ at all but you do show a tinge of bitterness toward the lds and their religion.

As for myself, I take a middle ground. I do not defend the lds faith unless people show disrespect for it and let loose false accusations and interpretations. I seek no respect but I do appreciate christian kindness and understanding.

As one women on NPR stated: religions are like lampshades, all are different and yet, they contain a similiar light inside.
Seeing bitterness is simple projection in your case.

I enjoy the structure of the church, despite its flaws. I’m the guy who never attends sunday school or priesthood, but is always first to show up for service projects. I refuse all my callings, but pay my fast offerings. I donate to Deseret Industries, despite the fact that there isn’t a DI within 500 miles of where I now live.

At the same time, I think we have much to improve upon. The idea that we are somehow better than other people is one. It’s an idea that will cause us a lot of problems in the future if we don’t come back down to earth.

If I were bitter, I’d simply leave. It’d save me money and I’d volunteer at a secular charity. I choose not to, because I like the church. I like going home and seeing my mother and going to church with her. I’d like to think that I can work from the inside and make a meaningful difference, both in the church and for the greater community.

You are in the church because it gives you a false sense of superiority. In that regard, you and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum, no doubt about it. I have known many people of your type, who have little in the way of real-world achievement, but much hubris and arrogance due to a fancy calling or a pedigree. Most amusing is the fact that I’ve turned down much higher callings than are ever offered to your kind, and I have a much longer family history in the church than you likely do. Despite this, I usually let your type continue with your predictable delusions of grandeur and persecution. All of us do. You can rant and squeal and act like a jerk until the cows come home. We pretend to sympathize and sometimes give you a bit of encouragement, if only because your antics are amusing. Whether you know it or not: You and your type are of no significance. Not to the church, not to society, not to yourselves. That’s the brutal truth of the matter.

LOL!!! I can’t Believe YOU said that! yes we have a winner. We see you worshipping JS on the MADB as well. You seem to be okay with the anticatholics there. what about your own intentions for posting? when are you coming clean?
What is the MADB?

mopologetics board that whyme loves to advertise. he posts there all the time trying to get LDS to threadswarm here and let’s them know how he is defending the LDS church at the Catholic church he attends. he even has his JS icon and fave JS quotes over there

remember the good ole golden rule?
Mathew 7:12
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

just a thought to all the mormons comming over here with their stories. im sorry you had such expiriences, but if you’re willing to commit such acts yourselves (example: the actual topic of this thread) and make ignorant claims (cough zerinus cough), then dont be suprised and offended when such things happen to you. makes sense to me at least.

Semper Fidelis Marines!

PS and why me, i like how you deal with a generalization that actually happened, with some random generalization that no one even knows what you’re talking about. amazing.
Mormons are not invading catholic churches, mocking the religion and cutting the head off your statues. It was an isolated incident. However, if a rather drunken catholic is caught peeing on the outside wall of a mormon chapel, I will be sure to mention it on this forum and equate all catholics peeing on lds chapels.

Good attempt at generalizations. 🙂

These were young men who made a mistake and I think that we should show charity towards them. What they did was most certainly wrong and hopefully their remorse is real. But two things come to mind:
  1. In the statements of apology both from the LDS Mission President and one of the missionaries, they emphasise how the mormon church has been so badly persecuted, before apologizing for this desecration / persecution. Again, everything to turn it into a “missionary moment”.
  2. Where did these lads get the idea that the Catholic shrine might be portrayed as an altar where there was human sacrifice ? Because, whilst not openly taught in public in conference, every mormon family will one day become aware that “the great and abominable church, the whore of all the world” (as it says in the Book of Mormon) is in fact the Catholic church. Without the apostasy of the Catholic church, then there is no need for the mormon church. So, to justify its existence, they have to continually knock down the Catholic church. This incident reveals very well the underlying belief of the mormon church in respect to Catholicism.
God bless,

Hal.

Apologies that I have not read all of the posts, and so this might be a repeat, but here is a news article showing 2 of the 3 pictures.

This is really, really sad. Both for the faithful people who built the shrine and for the missionaries and their families.

Please pray for them. Remember Saul persecuted the Church, but latter became Paul.

God bless,

Hal.

HUH??? LOL!!! What in blazes are you trying to say here? Aside from being a totally stupid comment in very bad taste, your contextual use of the adjective “drunken,” in your statement “drunken Catholic,” implies that we are known drunkards.

Some of your comments are so far out there that I’m beginning to think maybe Joseph Smith was right. You’re not from the MOON by any chance are you?

In fact hollywood did paint a picture that the Irish loved their booze and we all know what religion the Irish generally are. I remember growing up thinking that all Irish catholics loved their alcohol. For protestants such generalizations seemed to stick.

Making generalizations about a religion and its members is not very productive. However, handling an isolated incident is.

    God bless,
Quite simple: from Hollywood. I have seen movies where such a design is used for human sacrifices. I think that Indiana Jones’ movies come to mind. Perhaps for these young men, inundated with TV and mass media, the design of the alter led to their actions taken their cue from sacrificial alters they have seen in the movies. It is all a sterotype of course.

And I have also heard that there have been protestants that claim that the catholic alter is used every sunday to sacrifice jesus’s body. Not that this would have much impact on the lds missionaries. But hollywood is quite a different matter.

Now of course, education is the best policy. The more such people are educated in knowledge and respect, the better the world will be.

sooooooooooooo…why me…
mormons send their missionaries out bearing a copy of indiana jones in one hand, and in the other a handful of “higher honesty” (or just plain decieving outsiders)

is that really the amount of training that missionaries recieve? they watched indiana jones or whatever hollywood flick instead of actually studying the religion they would be trying to lead people astray from? Seriously

thats pretty responsible. that shows that mormons really do have a lot of respect for our faith.
actually, what i get from that is perhaps you view your faith as so superior that you dont even need to bother with actually being prepared for theological battle.
pride comes before a fall. and the mormon mission at least in Sangre De Cristo learned that the hard way.

PS. generalizations arent productive. so stop using them. and stop making excuses for grown men and adult representatives of your faith

These men were not grown. They were 19 to 21 years old. Hardly mature adults. Have you ever seen a spring break in Florida? Hardly mature. And the businesses in that area do not want maturity but immaturity from the college students. It sells.

Young people are very much influenced by the media. Yes, I would say that when the missionaries lost their senses they did equate the alter with hollywood sterotypes.

if they werent grown or mature adults, then why are they entrusted with adult responsibility of representing your faith?

actually, no, ive never taken a part in nor have i ever watched a spring break in Florida. from what i hear, its not a good place for a catholic.
i dont know what point you are trying to make with businesses wanting immaturity as opposed to maturity. ummmm…immaturity certainly doesnt sell when you’re trying to lead people astray. thats apparent from your missionaries in sangre de Cristo. but if thats what the mormon higher ups think will work, that is immaturity from their representatives, then keep it up! it sure is working wonders.

so it must have been hollywoods fault that the missionaries did what they did. it was hollywood all along! well everyone on this thread, you can go on home. why me solved the mystery!

i put forward that they either acted out of ignorance of our faith because they were too prideful to care, or they acted out of anti-catholic sentiment, since we are, according to mormons, apostate and worship satan. either way, they need to be counceled and they need to do some good yard work around the church. at the very very very least.

also, im a 20 (almost 21) year old marine and i would venture to say that many of us younuns arent as immature as you may think. pride is a sin after all.

are there any mormons on here besides whyme? surely what he says cant be the general consesus among mormons. lets get some meaningful dialogue going instead of unreasonable speculating and generalizations.

What would you like to talk about?

Whyme spends literally 24 hours a day trolling the internet. Someone gave me some links to other places this looney has been raising hell. I found it incredible and hilarious. My guess is that s/h/it is a shut-in of some sort who has psychological problems. Best to ignore it.

It’s hardly just you guys.

Here are some LDS missionaries in the Pacific Northwest (USA) lampooning a local African-American protestant minister they disliked.

 This video was apparently shot at some sort of official conference. You can hear people in the audience egging that kid on. And his characterization is very racist. All that’s missing is the blackface.

And what places might they be? 🤷 I have posted on the mormonapologetics forum but have since cut back on that forum. I did hang out on another forum but haven’t posted there much either.

I did not see any of the other young men wearing name tags. It makes the video just a little suspicious. Of course, I could have missed the tags…

And I see no proof that it was an official conference.

You can plainly see that they are in a LDS cultural hall (inside of a mormon church). So, you’re saying a group of anonymous men, all the age and look of missionaries, spent money on the standard missionary outfit, broke into a LDS church, and filmed this? Are you serious? And I can see at least one more tag on a jacket.
