We are happy to answer your questions. What we won’t do is stay and read your ridicule and Mormon Bashing, if that is what your “Catholic Answers Forum” is all about!
I get the feeling that Mormons are very thin-skinned. Either that, or they have been trained to adopt a soft, anticonfrontational composure whenever presented with the righteous indignation of a Christian who resents being called apostate by them. Here’s the deal: Apostasy is just about the worst sin a Christain can commit. It may, in fact, be the very worst. Mormons seem to like to throw that charge against Christians without considering what the word means, or what the sin entails, or even being able to produce any evidence of it being true.
Of all the various pretenses that I find in Mormonism, this one thing, the pretense to having “restored the gospel” after all those centuries, is the most galling to me. It is such a filthy lie. It tells the lie that all the great martyrs, thinkers, artists, musicians, architects, theologians, and just plain Christian folk, both Protestant and Catholic, were actually apostates, people who had RENOUNCED THEIR FAITH. I don’t take that charge lying down. Implicit in everything a Mormon says is this charge of apostasy, not only for me, but for every good Christain who has lived since the death of the Apostles.
Chasjohn, you are obviously a man of intelligence, one who chooses his words carefully, understanding their meanings. Being that you are a lawyer, this is understandable, and appreciated, I assure you. But, when you accuse us of “Mormon Bashing,” I want you to think about that accusation of apostasy that is implicit, and often explicit, in your religion. Then, if you can grasp the meaning of that, you will know that by your very presence here you are bashing Catholics, and that we don’t take it lightly.
Let’s argue and debate, but don’t come on with any Mormon crocodile tears, sadness at “Mormon Bashing.” If you can’t take the heat, go to another kitchen.
