Show me where God commanded Abraham or Jacob to take another wife.
Yea… think about it, if Jacob hadn’t taken another wife, millions of casualties over the eons wouldn’t have occurred. No Crusades, no 9/11… not that I don’t like (certain) Muslims, because I do, but their faith is incorrect. I honestly doubt that God wished for that to happen. This is just another example of the existence of free will and its triumph over the rationality. YAY!😦

i have read every post. i get it. saul of tarsus said the same thing. your perception is colored by mormon dismissal of the bible as “not translated correctly” and the fact that JS claimed a restoration. the catholic church is easily shown to be the same doctrinally as it was in the age of the apostles. who do you think assembled and preserved the Bible?
i’ll be blunt back, i have yet to give any misinformation and you have yet to show any. no one here is going to become mormon and your attempts to spin and misdirect will not fool anyone. we are well acquainted with the mormon practice of lying for the lord. paul dunn? original D&C? JS talking to Emma about his other wives? the one truly “full of themselves” is the one claiming some need to come here and correct the information catholic answers has about mormons. at best you’re tilting at windmills. ( no one here is gonna drink the koolaid and we have a strong record of showing proof for our claims). CA is not going to change it’s library either. worst case you are preaching the heresies of a false prophet. when you read the bible (since you felt it important to assure us that you can)make sure you pay careful attention to hebrews 1 , matthew 19, 22 , luke 20 and 2peter 2. (of course there’s the chance that weren’t translated correctly or they are missing plain and precious parts) my faith is based on one everlasting omnipotent God who is the only God anywhere ever and has always been fully divine.
Assembled the Bible yes. Preserved? Questionable.
As to the Catholic church being the same doctrinally give me a brake. There are many differences most of them justified through various meas, but they differ none the less.

I’m not here to convert people I am however going to stand up for what is right. If that offends you get over it. As to the Bible chapters if you trying to sell me on Christ being the last word of God ever I’ll have to refer you back to the Bible as most of the NT was written about/to people after Christ.

Peters waring is quite right.

Trying to make Luke 20 mean something it does not is pointless. The same goes for Matt.

interesting that you choose THIS platform for your self proclaimed ministry. I still wonder why that is.

As I’ve stated before( and that alone shows the need) that many LDS beliefs are not understood and are misrepresented by some people. So I’m trying to help people better understand what we do believe. What they do with that is their business.

Are you bothered by someone standing up for their beliefs?

perhaps but in comparison the catholic bible doesn’t appear to be the one missing plain and precious things. the protestant bible (including KJV) and even the JST seem to be short a few books. what evidence do you offer to cast doubt on the preservation of the bible?

like what?

oh please…what do you care what catholics believe? if you are just correcting error why here? why not the glaring errors of ed decker or the many evangelical boards? all mormons are trying to convert people whenever they talk religion. it is the every member a missionary requirement. i still wonder why this is YOUR preferred door place to tract.

yes it was the writings of jesus words in the gospels and the apostles teaching what they personally learned from christ. as this was perfect all we have to do now is study and apply it.
Peters waring is quite right.
yes

then stop doing it. it is very clear.

Um well there is the bible. Aside from that the BoM and JS where clear on that fact.

I’ve yet to run across a scripture saying that God was doing talking.

As to the CC short comings start a new thread I’m sure you’ll get a ton of responses. I’m not here to attack the CC, just to stand up for what I do believe.

This is not my preferred method, I don’t recall who, but someone has a tag line saying in effect that almost no one hates the CC just what they misunderstand it to be. I have seen the same with the LDS most people dislike us beacuse they misunderstand us.

I’m still wondering if yo have a problem with people standing up for their beliefs?

not at all. i’m just curious as to why here. I think the LDS themselves are the most guilty of misrepresenting LDS doctrine. I will certainly work to address that here. i will not stand by and allow LDS to spin things their way ignoring the facts in the process. i am here on a catholic site defending the catholic faith against the LDS charge that it is apostate and holds no sacramental grace or divine authority of any type. if all you intend is to proclaim LDs beliefs (so that they aren’t misunderstood) it would appear your purpose woul d be better served on FAIR or FARMS or MADB or even jefflindsay. you won’t be allowed to post faith promoting rumors or revisionist history or misapplied scriptures here without being challenged with facts.

I’m not too impressed with FARMS et al.

As far as who has the “revisionist history” and who has “facts” I doubt we will agree.

and what is your criticism of FARMS, et al? if they are lacking wouldn’t it be helpful for you to correct them?

Most of what I had read which I’ll admit is small compared to what they have written just seems snobbish.

Maybe the larger issue for a Catholic is really that of authority? Any advice would be welcome.
I think it is in St. Mark 10 where Jesus speaks about marriage between a man and a woman… (not multiples wives)… about how God never wanted divorce (much less polygamy)… that when a man leaves his father & mother, he is joined to his wife and the 2 become one flesh… Moses allowed divorce but that was never God’s perfect will…

Also, Malachi 2 or 3 says “God hates divorce”… If God hates divorcing one wife to marry another ONE… I shudder to think how he deals with those who marry more than one…

[did you know that “mormon” in Chinese means “gates of Hell”… which explains why the Chinese reject mormonism…]

so its a good think thats not the name of our church.

I don’t know how anyone can believe in the LDS church, which was started in the 18th or 19th century… Where was the real Church beforet then??

why do you only focus on something as unimportant as a name… What about the statement concerning how God hates divorce…
how he hates a man even leaving one woman for ONE other woman… how much more he hates a “man” having more than one woman…??

I was pointing out the stupidity of the cheep shot.

God does not want men to have more than one wife at the same time (I’ve found nothing forbidding a widow(er) to marry). This is the general rule. At times however God may command some people to take actions that are not the same as the general rule.

We all accpet (I hope) the commandment from God through Moses that read something like “thou shalt not kill”. We have have it supported in the Bible in a few different places that killing is a bad thing. Yet we also know that God (the same one who talked to Moses) sent Joshua to kill every man women and child in Jericho (baring one family). This was one of many times when God commanded people to brake the no killing rule.

Plural marriage is much the same it is contrary to God commandments for men to have more than one wife. Unless God says that they are. Plural marriage under commandment from God is the right thing to do.

you know for a church that focuses so much on problems with the “translation” of the bible you don’t seem very intent on trying to fix those type of problems. the word used in the original hebrew is thou shalt not MURDER. bit of a difference. mosaic law covers “killing” in great detail. if that had been the literal commandment then we would have to be vegetarians. but if you read it as intended…don’t murder! it makes sense and so does the rest of Gods commands.
