I also found this:
It just shows that mormons are an interesting ‘cult’ with many members of congress and government. Now of course, I don’t buy into the cult argument but I do buy into the fact that the lds church has many great members in it.

Notable attendees
The LDS Church said the following political leaders, in addition to many other Utah politicians and community leaders, attended Gordon B. Hinckley’s funeral. They include:
Republican Utah Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett (both Mormon)
Republican Utah Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Cannon (both Mormon)
Democratic Utah Rep. Jim Matheson (Mormon)
Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho (Mormon)
Rep. John Doolittle, R-Calif (Mormon)
Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz (Mormon)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada (Mormon)
Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Oregon (Mormon)
Mike Leavitt, U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services (mormon)

Romney has been downplaying his religion I wonder if this funeral comes at an awkward time for him? Just when he was having some success with evangelicals they are reminded that he is morman only a few hours before the big day tuesday.
The media is now downplaying his religion and now so is Romney.

Well, the state of Utah does have a government and it does have to have representation in the Senate and the House of Representatives—doesn’t it?
 :rotfl: :rotfl:

Except, I also see california, idaho, nevada, arizona, oregon…

The media downplaying it?

I hardly think so.

This funeral, and Mitt Romney’s attendance, only turned the spotlight back on it again full-force.

What article or report that you know of that came out in the last couple of days that DIDN’T mention Mitt’s religion?

Yeah–like one person from each. What’s your point? These states are top 10 states of Mormon population…the mountain west…real close to Utah.

Just wanted to let people know what is going on from a Catholic perspective, here, in Utah. At Mass today Hinckley was in our prayers, that he would find everlasting life in Christ. Earlier this week his funeral procession passed in front of the cathedral, and the bells were rung as it passed.

No reports that he has been baptized as a Catholic, posthumously and by proxy.

Notice what I blackened out. I would think that your priest would be surprised by your words. Right? I would think that he would support the statement: that he is now happy with christ.

Which shows that you are out of step with your parish since you show very little respect for Gordon B. Hinckley.

No, we don’t insult others and their families by dead-dunking them We just pray for them. God is the judge.

Just as we all pray for those people within the LDS circle of deceit.

Let me help you, whyme.

The term is boldened, or, highlighted; it is NOT “blackened out.”

That would be the same as deleting.

Also, what Rebecca said is VERY, VERY important. She said that at Mass mention was made of praying for Hinkley, “that he would find everlasting life in Christ.”

She did NOT write, as you claim, “that he is now happy with Christ.”

Big Difference, whyme.

One is praying for his soul. The other statement, yours, dear heart, is assuming he has taken his [mormon] place beside his equal, another ‘god’ in mormon pantheology.

Big, big difference.

I guess we should understand what has happened this past week in SLC for the LDS and their minions.

The President and CEO of an extremely large multinational corporation has died and pursuant to the by-laws of the bizness, the next in line to be the CEO is Apostle Monson.

Too much of a business analogy?

Then consider this: the mormon sect IS a business with investment decisions handled by the 12 “apostles.” They invest in those areas where proselytizing for more tithe paying customers will give them the greatest return.

The Pacific rim: more football players for BYU.

South America: disaffected poor looking to come to America as ‘mormon families adopted by American mormon sponsors.’

Hotel chains. Publishing concerns.

Las Vegas real estate (isn’t that ‘Sin City’?)

The real litmus test: who showed up at the funeral for Hinkley?

Mormon politicians and entertainment personalities. A real family homecoming.

What ecumenical projects or publications did Hinkley author or spearhead?

None.

What words of his have been discussed in settings OUTSIDE of mormon ‘institutes of religion!]’ and BYU?

None.

How did he bring “peace to the people.”?

Can’t find any reference or reports on that one in the media.

Pray for his soul as any other person. Pray for the mercy of God to help him.

But don’t claim he is on par with other world and religious leaders.

He was and remained his whole adult life a businessman.

Robert

I am hoping that those well-known politicians gathering there might put pressure on church leaders to demote the BOM. For the sake of their own careers, as well as the future of the nation.

:crossrc:

Agreed, it is no more than a business.

I haven’t said anything against GBH

I care very little, if at all, that this man has died. He means nothing to me.

Why do you believe I owe this man respect? Are you talking the general respect for those who have passed? Or are you thinking I owe him the respect of a prophet? If the latter is the case, I suggest you accept this little realization that I have never considered this man anything other than a man.

Uncalled for post.

Fact is 3rd, 4th and 5th generation LDS remain in the faith as Catholics do not.

Fact is LDS is feeding souls - winning many converts in traditionally catholic countires.

Fact is, LDS is homespun. Even a staunch evangelical like radio host David Gold admits he has never met a bad Mormom. Catholic Novak mentioned the same in a recent comment.

Though Gold and Novak admitted they’ve met plenty of bad evangelicals and Catholics.

The LDS transforms lives it would seem in a way Catholocism does not. Don’t you find that the least bit troubling?

So what if Gold and Novak have never met a “bad” Mormon? I have, and so what? I’ve also met wonderful people who are Mormon, and wonderful people who happen to be Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and Jehovah’s Witness.

When you say “transformed lives” can you please elaborate? Just because you can’t smell sin the way you can smell cigarette smoke, that doesn’t mean there’s an absence of it. Yes, most Mormons don’t drink, smoke, or consume coffee or tea. Giving up some of those things can definitely transform a life for better. But don’t kid yourself. There are just as many Mormon sinners as there are sinners in any other religion. If you think otherwise, you’ve got to be living in la la land.

What’s troubling is, all the people who’ve put their whole heart and soul into a belief system that’s loaded with bad theology, and by the time they got the good sense to move away from it, they found themselves left with no faith left in God at all. That’s whats troubling.

Hello, 16th-generation Catholic here (that we can trace). :tiphat:

How many 16th-generation Mormons are there?

Fact is that in the U.S. only 50% of Mormon converts are active after 1 year, and after 5 years only 30% are active. When I was on my mission in Taiwan, only 5% of those on the membership roles were active. So much for LDS faithfulness.

And that’s not to mention the 200+ people per day having their names taken off the LDS membership roles, as I did.

God bless you,
Paul (former Mormon, now Catholic)

Oh really?:rotfl::rotfl: :rotfl:

**The fact IS that many MILLIONS of Catholics are XXXth generation Catholics! **

So you can stop puffing out your chest about 3rd, 4th, 5th generations Mormons.

There is no comparison. You’re really embarrassing yourself here.😊

Yes, we are aware of the deceptive techniques employed by the Mormon missionaries to dunk anyone and be able to count a baptism. Baseball baptism, anyone?

**The fact IS that Mormon retention rates in those Catholic countries is extremely poor as is readily admitted by the Mormon church. **
Timothy Heaton, a BYU sociologist, used census data from Mexico, Brazil and Chile to show the number of citizens who claim Mormonism as their religion there was only 20 to 25 percent of the church-reported membership figures, suggesting low retention.
I imagine most of them Come Home once they’ve uncovered the hunks of “rotting meat” when they were only fed “the milk” by the missionaries.

Here it is again, rien.

Do you see anything that I have said which is a lie??

Was he not a businessman?

Were there other world religious leaders at his funeral?

What were his “people” doing that made him “bring peace to his people”?

Is not Monson the handpicked CEO to be?

Does not BYU actively recruit Fiji and Samoan athletes for BYU?

Does not the mormon church own acres and acres of downtown Las Vegas property?

Does the LDS ‘church’ own a publishing company?

Do they own a hotel chain?

What is “uncalled for”, rien?
