I find it very interesting how this discussion is playing out because the Catholics are playing the “big picture” card while the Mormons are playing the “statistics” card. Over and over again the Mormons quote numbers and make points like “the Mormon baby will live 3 times more often than the Catholic baby”…
If doing that makes you feel justified in saying Catholics aren’t as pro-life as Mormons, then fine. Feel justified. Take comfort in knowing that your church is more “pro-life” than the Catholic Church based on numbers here and now…
As for me, I’m sticking with the church that, for 2000 years, has proclaimed that abortion is murder. Complete and Full Truth for All Time is more important to me than a 3:1 ratio in 2009.
I have read these judgments, name-calling, and psychological stonings loud and clear. So then whom do you really follow ? (not Jesus, the perfect and compassionate healer)
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Some Catholics seek peace and goodwill toward the people around them, and judge not, but point toward compassionate healing; in so doing, they follow Jesus. Others truly do not, and are as “sheep having no shepherd.”
