Maybe someday she will discover on her own that the Catholic Church would never break the Ten Commandments, which hopefully would make it clear to her that the acts listed in Canon Law are not a list of the worst sins in Catholicism. But then we would all be accused of not tell her earlier. 🙂
Perhaps.

Like by Stephen168 in posts 518, 530 and 531 in this thread:shrug:
post 518 was posted on Sunday, considerably after I put Stephen on my ignore list. The rest, of course, were posted later than that.

So the first time anybody mentions this is the day before yesterday, and only after he KNOWS I put him on ‘ignore?’

That’s a little late, I think.

As others have already mentioned, Stephen did repeatedly post this, however I guess you did not see it because he’s on ignore. 🤷
Evidently he started doing this on Sunday. He’s been in my ignore list for somewhat longer than that, because I’m REALLY tired of the blatant insults he aims my way.

(shrug)

Though I will take your word that he has posted this information, I’m not going to go look. His posts make my blood pressure explode, and I KNOW the moderators don’t want to hear from me again regarding him.

Something we could not guess.
Oh, I don’t know…perhaps the fact that I did not reply to his no doubt blatant insults might have been a clue. 😉 I don’t have a great deal of self control in those things. If I SEE it, I generally respond to it even when I know better. (sigh)

Stephen on Sunday, well after he KNOWS I put him on ‘ignore’ doesn’t count.
And the rest of us, who did know it was posted? We’re supposed to just read your mind and figure out that you’re ignoring posts?

I never KNEW I was on ‘ignore.’ I KNEW she stopped responding to my posts but electronically being ignored, I never KNEW. I didn’t KNOW it until 14:02 today when she told all of us together. So if she puts her head it the sand, we are all suppose to KNOW it. And really truly how do we KNOW I was on ‘ignore.’ Saying “I had them on ignore” would be a great strategy to saving face

Please before you consider leaving Christ for the cult watch “the bible vs. the book of mormon” and the book of mormon vs. DNA" I am an ex mormon and I assure there are things the cult wiil not share with you until you are baptized. There excuse is that one isnt spiritualy ready for these truths however the truth is that its not christian and is simply crazy cult rituals made by a mad man.

I understand the scope of the problem, yes…but the number of people who are getting them still doesn’t mean that the act is a specific act of rebellion against the church the way defiling the Host, ordaining a woman or attacking the Pope would be.
I don’t know if someone has already answered this in the pages coming after this post. I have, however, read the entire thread up to this post. It is an act of rebellion against the CHURCH because Jesus set the Church up to be His official “messenger” of morality. In other words, the Church is without a doubt correct in stating that abortion is morally, and gravely, wrong. Other faiths, cultures, and definitely almost all governments claim to know differently and better than the Church on this matter, declaring the action legal, and therefore insinuating that it is morally acceptable. The Catholic, then, has a choice to either follow the Church’s teaching or rebel against the Church’s teaching. Almost everyone believes that shooting a twenty year old person at point blank in order to kill them is murder, and is wrong. Someone comitting murder (who is in their right mind) is not trying to first claim that the Church is wrong about the morality or graveness of the murder and therefore doing it is okay. They’re doing it even though they’re wrong, they’re disobeying the Church’s teachings that they take to be true, they’re not rebelling against the teachings by saying they are not true. Does that make sense?

And it’s really kind of funny reading this thread b/c the most concise info that you have been given, that of Answersplease, you have almost completely ignored. I realize you’re hung up on the idea of excommunication as a “punishment” for the sin committed and can’t quite get past that. I just thought that I would point out that the most serious punishment, that of going to Hell, does not require excommunication in any way shape or form. And most often is not even in the equation. Ending up without God, eternally, is the consequence we’re all trying to avoid.

I was under the impression TheosisM isn’t that gullible.

Oh, no, aspirant. I am not so convinced of my own importance that I would expect everybody to know that I put Stephen on ‘ignore.’ After all, the post in which I told him I was putting him on there was addressed directly to him; it would be a little much of me to expect everybody else to make any sort of note of it. 😉

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Still, it seems rather odd that this conversation has been going on for literally weeks, and only within the last couple of days does someone actually go to the catechism and LOOK?

Ah, well. As I said, it settles a real problem I had with the situation. I had a HUGE problem with the whole concept of imposing the most serious consequence the church has in the arsenal upon abortion-getters—and then not TELLING the membership this.

Now that I know that it is, indeed, in the catechism it makes much more sense. I would say that I approve very highly, but that would sound pretty…presumptious of me. You guys certainly don’t need my approval!

It does…but euthanasia and other things are also being declared legal in nations, and are being advocated by other faiths and cultures (and a BUNCH of governments) but this is not on the list. Ditto for using birth control. Now Euthanasia also involves ending lives…

So yeah, what you say would make sense, except for that.

I noticed you didn’t quote your post were this clear declaration ‘ignoring’ took place.

Why should we have had to quote the Catechism? We told you Catholics are not taught Canon Law, but Catholics know about abortion and its consequences. All you had to do was say, “Ok,” instead of turning it into a 20 page rant. AND if you truly do not understand something………Ask a question……instead of trying to teach us your twisted understanding of Catholicism.

I knew it was in the Catholic Church’s Catechism and I think most everyone else knew also.
Don’t try to use the “nobody bothered to look” attack, I saw Stephen168’s posts and I thought you were intentionally not answering them just so you could keep your ant-Catholic rant going. Everyone else probably thought the same.

I’ve seen Catholics for Choice booths at many fairs I’ve attended. It was upsetting that these people were leading non-Catholics to believe the Catholic Church supported abortion; very scandalous. Yeah, I never saw the Catholics for Murder booth or the Catholics for Rape booth.

Never saw the Catholics for Euthanasia booth, the Catholics for Pedophilia booth or the Catholics for Prostitution booth, either. But if I had seen a group at my state fair calling themselves Catholic and handing out material contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church, I would not ASSUME its gravity and scope to a world wide Church. You, however, are free to assume anything that makes you feel good. You have done a great deal of it on this thread.
You don’t see laws being passed in every western country that legalizes your list of sins here. You don’t see Catholics, by the millions, going against Church teaching in regards to these sins. In other words, abortion is on a scale that is huge. In the realm of millions of Catholics not in communion with the Church because they are defying Church teaching.

If there comes a time where the same problem is had with these other types of sins, you can look to see if it shows up as specifically directed by the Church that excommunication is the penalty.

Beyond that, when you have reduced our faith to a list of rules, you have ceased to understand Catholicism. (If there ever was an understanding.)
There have been about 50 MILLION dead babies attributed to abortion, even more world wide.

There are about 1.4 MILLION abortions done each year.

How many people have died from euthanasia?

Except that abortion is by far the biggest problem in terms of statistics, as well as being the only action that is every single time an instance of some else taking an undoubtedly innocent and unprotected human life. In our current “culture of death” it is the biggest problem. Which is why the Church chooses to address it this way. It is about the act of abortion in general. The excommunication is being used as a tool to make a statement about the Church’s position on abortion. Yes it is a “consequence” in a way of the actual sinner, but far less of one than the consequence of mortal sin intself. It is really more about the act itself, than the sinner committing it.

I’ll put it this way: For the individual Catholic “sinner”, in terms of consequences, abortion is no different than any other mortal sin. For the world, for the human population and society as a whole, it is a far bigger problem than euthanasia.
