I believe they can be, and for two reasons.

First, if Zerinus and the others posting here are any indication, mormons are unaware of their own ideology and pantheology and are thus clueless but well intentioned, and;

Second, God’s ways are merciful. And this trumps ‘holy underwear’ and ‘temple ceremonies.’

HI, I just had them come to my house this fall and they do believe in a trinity and 3 seperate gods, two from arizona came to our home and told us this.Ask next time you see the ones you know, and let me know. Mabe they are from the old school I wonder if they all teach the same in all their temples? Say if you celebrate Christmas have a wonderfull time. In Christ love Nancy.
Of Course I celebrate CHRISTmas! 😃 😃 Thank you! And same to you!!!
Yeah, like Rbt Southwell said, they sometimes lack knowledge of their own “pantheon”. BTW, they don’t learn in the temples, they learn in meeting houses at Sunday school, which laity teach each other about. It can get quite confusing for that reason. My spouse’s family is LDS, and I have asked them questions about this stuff before, some are teachers. I was questioned on the very subject of the Catholic Trinity, because they thought it was apparently outrageous that we think Jesus is God. But as I understand, Jesus is more of a prophet, and the Holy Ghost, more like an angel. But yes, it is a Trinity of beings that they hold up for us to see so that they can say they’re a Trinitarian faith. As for the missionaries, I get plenty, because they sick them on us non-LDS. Now, if someone who is LDS can explain further and correct me, I will gladly hear them. It will not convert me, but I will stand corrected. I have yet to hear solid, meaningful explanations, and I believe that it will never happen.

“Beware of false prophets…you will know them by their fruits.”
Just putting that up there because I want to know what the “fruits” of the LDS Church are.
“Dumbfound me”
They believe they become gods, given their own worlds to populate with the spirit children they procreate in their heavens. Isn’t this blasphemy? That’s some of their fruits. Their 19-year-old elders and missionaries say they’re spreading the gospel and trying to teach people about God. Yet, they will use terms that sound Christian and get people to leave their faiths, like Catholicism, without defining their terms or telling these unsuspecting people what their commiting to. It’s dishonest. That’s the fruits they produce.

I am LDS and just looked at this thread for the first time just now at the suggestion of a friend. I am flabbergasted to see that Nancy Dalrymple has made a post in which she says that Latter-day Saints “worship satan in their rituals, their roots are of satan and smiths magick-stones, are taken from witchcraft.” Then, instead of seeing others posting corrections or criticisms, I see a “seekdatruth” posting that “Nancy is quite charitable” and “rinnie” seeming to concur in that.

I strongly suspect that, if we research the official position of the Roman Catholic Church, it will NOT be that Latter-day Saints “worship satan” or that our faith’s “roots are of satan” or that our Prophet’s translation of our scripture was “taken from witchcraft.” Of course, I understand that the RCC does not view Mormonism as the truth and, for that matter, I am sure that the RCC does not view Protestantism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, or Hinduism as the truth. However, I cannot believe that, in the year 2008, the RCC takes the position that Mormonism is “satanic” or “taken from witchcraft.”

Sometimes, some of the most hostile of Protestant fundamentalists, the real extremists, say these sorts of things about the Latter-day Saints, but Ms. Dalrymple’s post does not sound very Catholic to me. Do Catholics in the 21st Century really believe this sort of thing?

I see that PJM has made a post in which he states that Latter-day Saints “do not have nor do they use a bible, any bible!” PJM is completely mistaken and I hope that readers of this thread know better. As anyone can see by attending a Latter-day Saint Sunday meeting, we do use the Holy Bible. We use the King James Version of the Bible which, while it may not be the version used by Catholics, is a version used by various Protestant denominations and is certainly a Bible.

PJM’s post also states that Latter-day Saints “do not believe . . . that Jesus was cucified on a CROSS”. Of course we know that Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross. Not only is this in the Bible, it is in the Book of Mormon, in our Hymnal, throughout the talks of our Elders and, indeed, permeates our entire faith. For example: “Jesus, the Son of God was crucified with his hands and his feet nailed to the wood!” Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith p. 268.

I cannot imagine from where PJM got these mistaken ideas and I hope that Catholics know that PJM is mistaken.

seekdatruth:

I can tell you the basic teaching of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with rspect to the Godhead. A small, very basic book titled “True to the Faith” which is published by the Church, explains the Godhead as follows:

“The first article of faith [of 13 such articles written by Joseph Smith] states, ‘We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.’ These three things make up the Godhead. They preside over this world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven. . . . From the Prophet’s account of the First Vision and from his other teachings, we know that the members of the Godhead are three separate beings. The Father and Son have tangible bodies of flesh and bones, and the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit. Although the members of the Godhead are distinct beings with distinct roles, they are one in purpose and doctrine. They are perfectly united in bringing to pass Heavenly Father’s divine plan of salvation.”

By way of a little futher explanation of our faith, the Prophet wrote:

"Everlasting covenant was made between three personages before the organization of this earth, and relates to their dispensation of things to men on the earth; three personages, according to Abraham’s record, are called God the first, the Creator; God the second, the Redeemer; and God the third, the witness or Testator.

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith p. 194.

Just to avoid confusion, I would not use the term “trinity” in connection with the faith of the Latter-day Saints. Although meaning “three” in the temporal sense, it is more commonly understood to refer to the Catholic or Protestant “Trinity” which, in some way I do not understand, connotes one and three at the same time. One time someone, a Protestant or a Catholic, gave me the analogy of a three-leaf clover, a shamrock, and that is about as far as I can understand it. Of course, I know that Catholics do understand it.

I sure hope they do because it’s true, and your prophet Smith was a real extremist,so was Brigham Young! I still love you and care about your salvation Nancy.👍

I am sorry if I offended you in any way. I will be the first to admit I know nothing of your Religion. Nor did I claim to, I did say she seemed to offer great info. And she did seem to know what she was talking about. I mean didn’t she claim to be of the faith at one time or another. But I would never say that you guys do or do not do this or that I do not know. Again sorry is I seemed to make you think that. But in all due respect I really didn’t read as careful as maybe I should have. But no one did seem to disagree much with her. Do Catholic’s today believe in satanic or witchcraft. Speaking for myself I do believe it exists. And seems to be more out in the open today more than ever. Myself it gives me the creeps just talking about it. But what your religion teaches I could not say for I have no idea. And if I said that it does I was greatly misunderstood. The only thing I believe I said is no one really seems to agree on what it teaches.

For the record post 169 is what I was talking about William and I still think it was very nice.

Can any Mormons be saved?
Yes, but they must accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. And leave the Mormon church which is classified as one of the largest cults in the world.
Look it up on the net.

God bless your search,

I thank you all for answering, I surely could not have gone to any lds establishment and ask, I’m just too untrusting of them and I’v already had a very bad experience. I fear I would crack if I did try and ask one of them something.

How does lds view native americans?

First question to you, what is the meaning of the pentagram according to lds?

Also, your aspectations are no where near what I have heard as teachings from the Catholic Church. Judaism and Islam is looked at differently than you mintioned, especialy as we are Three religions that worship the same God. Catholicism actualy branches off from Judaism. As NT is fullfilment of OT.

I have also heard pleanty of people speak about mormons as non-Christians. perhaps you may answer the first question?

Hi,this is in reply to william, the mormon who is trapped in a belief that is sacraligous and in opposition to all that is Holy. It is truly a perfect disguise of a truly santanic belief. I want to be fair so I would like to clear alot of this up with all that have any uncertanty that the mormon belief is false. Please go to http.//www.carm.org/mormon.htm and see for yourself,so that you wont get caught up in any more lies william thinks I said to you. Then you will see who is truly the lier.I still love the mormon people, and william just for the record my grandaughter is a mormon,I love her with all my heart, she lost her mother (my daughter) and thought by joining the mormon temple she could do a baptizm for the dead that you do, to save love ones that die. That comes from a pagan belief, you see william I do my home work because alot of beautiful people’s lives are at stake and we are our brothers keeper. With respect for the Catholic church, and all others who read this and believe of the Virgin birth, through the Holy Spirit,I bid you read what I gave you and God bless all who seek the truth. In the love of Christ Nancy Dalrymple. PS people -beware of wolf’s in sheep’s clothing!!

Hi, William M.

I am one of those Cradle Catholics … and I was a bit taken back by the satanic language. I know next to nothing about LDS - but, I am quite confident it is not demonic. 😃

Concerning the Trinity.
No one understands the Trinity: three distinct Divine Persons are One God- not three gods, not some confusion in who is doing what and not some form of spiritual schizophrenia. One God in Three Persons. The three-leaf clover is a simple analogy: three leaves one plant… but, like all analogies, it has some real weaknesses… and, does nto appeal to everyone (but, being Irish… I am partial to it… )

To the best of my knowledge and belief - all of will be judged by how well we use the lights provided to us in seeking and seriving God. Sincerity goes a long way … but, bear in mind, folks can be sincrely wrong. Finding out more about one’s faith and living that faith in true charity to all will not go unrecognized.

By the way, I live in Houston, TX - but, I was truly encouraged by the cooperation between the CC and LDS leaders in California concerning Prop 8. Thank you for the support that the LDS gave in this matter.

God bless,

As there wasn’t any explanation as to exactly what book or which Mormon’s teachings is being referred to, I think I will just jump in and begin.

First of all, I WAS a Mormon for 22 yrs.! And I had every book that is important to them (when I left the church, I had them hauled to the dump!) I left Mormonism because I finally sat down and began to read my Bible and I realized that the “Christ” they taught didn’t even come close to the “Jesus” that we believe in! And as to the blood that was shed, that was NEVER referred to that I remember. In fact, I remember attending a protestant prayer group (sigh, yes, it was a long trip back to Catholicism!) and I was horrified when they began to talk about the blood of Jesus! It made me feel very uncomfortable, at the very least! That is, until I read my Bible for the first time! THAT settled a great many of my questions; that is, until my heart began to remind me about the Eucharist and where it was to be found!

But that is another story all together!

Hi, you can get a free book on www.mormon.org/bookof mormon-7k or at a mormon church near you. Try the internet first . Nancy:thumbsup:

While I appreciate your view, I think we can still disagree and not fight. I sure hope so anyway. But here is my Point, we follow Jesus Christ, There is alot in the OT that we were not real clear on.

Then came Jesus Christ and he cleared things up quite well. He said no. he even went as far to say do not even lust over another man or women. So what I guess I am saying is ok, if you are Jewish lets say, and just go by the OT.things will be different. But they do claim to follow Jesus CHrist do they not? And they do claim to be a Christian Correct?
