From 0 to 18 years catholic----18 to 50 years mormon—and now 50 to…catholic…but thanks for your catholic charity of judgementalism. You are making me glad that you are not mormon. You would give mormons a bad name. Isn’t it interesting how I have been personally attacked because of my claim to lds and catholic. I really like the christian spirit here…gives me an empathy for victims of the Inquistition. Thanks…can you say GOOGLE CATHOLIC?

But earlier:I have been personally attacked because of my claim to lds and catholic.
Apparently a Catholic can imply that only Mormons are nice, and Catholics are mean, and that Mormon beliefs are nicer, and still want to be called a Catholic.I’m catholic. Sorry…![]()

Here is what I think: as a mormon you were probably deeply into mormon doctrine as you are now deeply into catholic doctrine. And all that is fine. However, you seem to be overlooking the catholic understanding of charity, empathy and kindness. In other words, the church does not live by doctrine along but the charity and love of its members. And I have seen none of that in your posts to me or to any mormon on these threads. I have p(name removed by moderator)ointed certain saints to help you see charity…saints such as mother cabrini, saint therese and the blessed mother theresa. I also pointed out saint katherine drexel as examples of catholic charity to people of other faiths. And I also pointed to Dorothy Day. All of these saints, blesseds and servants of god, saw the church as a church of love, caring, charity, empathy and understanding. But at this moment, I don’t see that in you. I just see someone who judges and decides who is a catholic and who isn’t a catholic. And that is not catholicism,So this Catholic is saying that I would give Mormons a bad name, not Catholics, which is the first group I would mention, you know, if I was Catholic.

Catholicism is so much more and that more can be found in the lives of the saints…such as John Bosco who helped the unfortunate and in Father Flanagan of Boystown who reached out to boys of all faiths to give them a chance at spiritual and earthly success. Now all of that is my catholicism.
By all means, judege me…past and repost this without comment. Fine.** But don’t tell me that is catholicm. **
By the way did you visit Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral? Or Saint Joseph’s on 6th avenue in the village? You should be hooking up with the NYU crowd if you attend Saint Joseph’s. Also you can pick up some literature on the table in the corridor. The NYPriest brochure is interesting as are the cards that say: The World Needs Heroes with pictures of Mother Theresa, Pope Benedict or a chaplain comforting a dying soldier. Nice prayer on the back of that card.
Oh and by the way, maybe someday you will be shaking my hand without even knowing it…now wouldn’t that be a hoot! And of course visaversa.![]()
And before a so called catholic bashes me for mentioning Father Flanagan of Boystown, implying that I get my information from movies as has been implied already, Father Flanagan was the subject of a center piece article in L’ Ossevvatore Romano, the newspaper from the Vatican in its August 5th issue. The headline of the article: One Priest’s Vision of Humanity. Now that is wonderful and beautiful. That article was filled with one priest’s love for humanity. I saw no bashing of others, no mocking of others, no judging of others…etc. In fact, I would encourage all the judgemental catholic posters on the mormon threads to read this newpapger because the paper is filled with love and yes, Kumbaya’s. Here are some headlines: The Many Faces of Humanism and this is a beautiful article about humanity and serving others. Another headline: Hands in the World, roots in the heart: simply beautiful article about the human heart and human activity. Another headline: **A spectacle of Humanity and Tenacity that teaches important lessons for life. **Another wonderful article.
And so who is the catholic?? Please tell me?? Who is the google catholic?? My concepts about catholicism come right from the vatican. The catholicism of love, humanity, charity and sainthood. And so, I have been condemned bacause** I see religion as being nice and loving all kumbaya’s etc. *I hope that you all will find out what it means to be catholic. ***
You can subscribe to the newspaper in English for around 100 dollars.** I would encourage all the judgemental catholics to read it.**

Yep, he always turns the discussion to Catholicism and Catholics, and how bad we are, and how great and wonderful Mormonism is and Mormons are (he even says that at least one Mormon believe is better than the Catholic belief!) This is why the original topic always gets lost.Troll
I did? I just mentioned many wonderful catholic saints and how wonderful they were in life. I then introduced the beauty of the vatican newspaper and encouraged people to read it. But I am a troll? Show me where I posted anything bad about the saints I mentioned? Nice try in avoidance of what I posted. You need to discover your new faith. It is actually very beautiful when actually lived as the saints lived it.Yep, he always turns the discussion to Catholicism and Catholics, and how bad we are, and how great and wonderful Mormonism is and Mormons are (he even says that at least one Mormon believe is better than the Catholic belief!) Thank God for Catholics that actually believe the DOGMAS of our Faith, and know that all of our doctrines are True. Any dogmas that contradict those are false. The LDS Church believes the same.
Now Ricko, I know that the truth hurts. The catholic faith is very beautiful in actual life when lived liked the saints. I mentioned many wonderful saints in my last few posts that you can draw experience from. These saints were kind to people of all faiths and unjudgemental in practice. And they brought many people to the faith by their actions. I prefer these catholic saints (and I include the people who are not saints, as I mentioned) to give guidance to my life. And you…you judge such people as me as trolls. Really Ricko, you need to discover the beauty of the catholic faith in practice as lived by the saints I mentioned and the faith that is in the vatican newspaper. There is no judgementalism and name calling in that paper. I can assure you.Troll

Religio71,Parker, I agree that covenant theology is important here, for both LDS and Catholics. I think the distinction is, as someone else was also saying, circumcision was seen as an initiation or introduction into the covenant. An infant could not “deliberately and knowingly make a covenant of their own accord”, yet they were still brought into the old covenant. Likewise, Catholics believe that baptism is the start of the new covenant. Infants can be brought into that covenant through baptism, and make a conscious decision to be fully in that covenant, as full members of the Church, through confirmation/chrismation.
(On the other thread, quoting):
If I remember correctly, I did bring up that circumcision was entry into the old covenant. The person had no choice in this, yet the choice was made by the parents to bring them into the covenant. Likewise, Catholics see baptism as entrance into the new covenant, and the parents make a choice to bring that infant into the covenant, as in circumcision. Feel free to respond in the other thread though.
Another personal attack?Maybe he has saint envy after all there is no LDS equivalent for Catherine, Teresa and Therese or Mothers Teresa and Cabrini or Dorthy.
More an observation, there are no equivalents in LDS. So I can understand why you would be drawn to our saints.Another personal attack?![]()
The saints are for everyone to model and follow. Why wouldn’t a mormon learn from mother theresa or saint therese or any other saint? And why wouldn’t a catholic want a mormon or a protestant to follow a saint in how to do life? It is all for the better good.More an observation, there are no equivalents in LDS. So I can understand why you would be drawn to our saints.
