It’s not mine per se. It’s essentially Mormons of any type (liberal, jack, ex, cultural, “new order”, etc.) who are in communion with Rome. We can sometimes be found in some of the more “liberal” parishes.
How can you say you’re a mormon and a Catholic? Outside of the ten commandments, much of what is taught in the LDS faith is in direct conflict with the Catholic faith. Maybe you need to talk with a priest.

Both my Mormon and Catholic offline friends think it’s weird, but cool. My Mormon/cradle Catholic dad said he admired me for being able to sit through four hours of church every week.

Thanks for the prayers.
Do you get to learn the secret handshake as a Mormon rite Catholic?😃

Since there are several threads going aro und talking about the subject, I wanted to add my two cents. The main issue that I have with Mormonism is that it is not upfront with people about what its core theology is all about. The leadership is incredibly focused on numbers, increasing convert baptisms, to the point of publicly denying things that they hold to be true. This unfortunate state of affairs compells me to state the facts when the opportunity shows itself.

Despite Mormonism cloaking itself as standard Christianity, it is really, very other.
  • Mormonism teaches polytheism. The Father, Son, Holy Ghost and Heavenly Mother are all separate gods (and goddesses), distinct beings.
  • Mormonism teaches that we and these gods are actually of the same species, that is, Heavenly Father is simply a normal man, all grown up. We can aspire to become gods and goddesses just as heavenly father and mother deity.
  • Mormonism teaches that in order to become gods (become exalted) we must join their church and partake of their ordinances: baptism, confirmation, endowment ceremony (in the temple), and an eternal or celestial marriage (performed in the temple).
I could go on, but really the above items are the root as to why I felt that I had to leave the LDS church as I realized ti was an offense to the one and only true God.
They also teach that Adam and Eve lived in Missouri, wow.

You can read about it here:

He knows I go to Mass all the time and that’s cool. He neither knows nor cares what being in communion with Rome entails, as long as I live up the moral standards of the LDS church (which are pretty much identical to the Catholic Church).

As far as a temple recommend, I tend to go through periods of inactivity, but I’m working on it.
You seem to be going through a change. You were just a little different over on the MAD board. I wish you luck in your transformation. I am afraid however that most of the posters here just cannot understand how one can be catholic and mormon. It is easy in my case. I was born catholic but to my knowledge you were not born catholic. Difficult to get a catholic baptism with your mormonism in play.

I see things like the on one side to the street is the Catholic Church on the other side is th LDS. Now just for the sake of argument lets say that both are right. If you walk on the Catholic side you are safe if you walk on the LDS side you are safe, But if you are running back and forth from side to side or walking down the middle between them you are going to get run over.

Also remember what Scripture says that a man can not serve two masters. Even though on social issue the Catholic and LDS stance maybe the same these are Polar opposite on the Nature of God and salvation.

I know that was true for me until recently. Now it seems to me that mormonisn is a very tight knit social club that does not require reason. Without reason they can attach themselves to any story that sounds good to them. God can be give contradictory commands, and the ontological state of race of man can change in an instant; and that is just OK with a Mormon. Don’t think just believe. If you can believe the Book of Mormon is true you can believe you are a Catholic.

Good luck to you Tsuzuki. The two theologies really are fundamentally mutually exclusive, but I know you have a philosophy that allows you to juggle them… I can’t imagine that you feel in full communion with either church though? Because you can’t be in fullness of agreement with both groups of people?

I think that Tsuzuki is a tad just like me. Tsuzuki may not be so doctrinaire as a mormon but sees a lot of good in the faith. And he or she does have a testimony of the book of mormon. But he or she also finds a great deal of good in the catholic faith. In other words, both faiths work very well for him or for her and when put together, he or she has a good christian life, living the commandments and attempting to do god’s will.

Well and that is interesting, why me, but what about the conflicting theologies? They are fundamentally at odds with each other

For you that involves constantly running down Christianity and twisting yourself into pretzels defending the weirdest aspects of Mormonism. We’ll see how this other person handles his situation.

What say you Tsuzuki, is the middle of the road chaos?

Possibly, but I avoid that by using a bridge.
Tsuzuki, I’m not picking on you, I was once the master of relativity, only, I rejected everything as relatively wrong, where, you seem to accept everything as relatively right. A healthier approach, would say. Back then, apathy was my bridge. So what is your bridge?

Forgive me, but…they are not relevant to you now?

That strikes me as incredibly strange…
I dunno, when I was “finding God”, the Real Presence and the Trinity, Faith itself were incredibly not real. Though relevant to Catholicism, and religion itself, the “issues” around the Real Presence and the Trinity were not relevant to me, at all.

Only after I found Faith, did they become relevant.

So, correct me if I am wrong Tsuzuki, but I’m thinking you have Faith that God will guide you to where it is all worked out.

Never had a problem with the Real Presence, and it’s something I could literally feel from my first communion. I know that part’s real as much as I know I have two hands. What causes it I don’t know, but I know it’s real.

Faith often involves staring into a black abyss, waiting for the light to shine. And that’s the fun part.
Indeed.

but I do believe that God is responsible for it. Maybe He did it to spice things up before His return and see how people would react. It’s what I would do.
Well I am sure that God is not author of confusion. Perhaps JS didn’t take to heart 1 John 4:1 (“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God”)?

“The true religion is the universal religion; which is why Catholicism has adopted the only name which indicates the truth. Furthermore, this religion maintains orthodoxy in doctrine, the hierarchy of the powers, the efficacy of worship and the genuine magic of ceremonies. In other words it is typical and normal religion, the mother religion to which the Mosaic traditions and the ancient oracles of Hermes rightly belong. In upholding this in the face of the Pope himself if necessary, we shall be more catholic than the Pope and more protestant than Luther when occasion demands.”

- Eliphas Levi, The Great Secret

I would add, “and more Mormon than Joseph Smith.”

I don’t know if all the claims of Mormonism are true, but I do believe that God is responsible for it. Maybe He did it to spice things up before His return and see how people would react. It’s what I would do.
tsuzuki,

I’m genuinely curious, why do you think God is responsible for Mormonism? Is He responsible for all religious movements, or is there something special about Mormonism which gives you this clue?

Actually, I do think that God is responsible for most, if not all, religious movements. I singled out Mormonism both because it’s the subject of the topic and because of its similarities with Catholicism on moral and social issues.
tsuzuki,

Well now that is interesting. So are you involved with more religions than just Catholicism and Mormonism? How do you choose which ones to really get involved with? Thanks for sharing.
