Mormons and eternal marriage

I’m a Catholic trust me, I may not be a very good one but I’ll go to grave a nominal Catholic and hope to at least make it to purgatory.

I was just playing devils advocate that if you remove all the nonsense surrounding Mormonism like golden plates, Israelite Native Americans, polygamy being ordered by God and the God of the universe. Who explicitly warns Emma to allow Joseph to marry whoever he wants but she can’t be with anyone else (covering your bases). If you actually read that in D&C I don’t see how anyone can read it and not laugh. The underwear and Temple rites lifted from freemasonry etc…

The idea of man’s progression to eventually rule over thier own planets isn’t too crazy from what we know of the universe. Man has always been progressing even here while on Earth. 500 years ago the idea of man landing on the moon was probably more unbelievable than today saying man will travel beyond the speed of light and travel the universe. And what do we do in Heaven? Seriously do we just sing hymns for infinity? Do we lose all of what makes us us and get sucked into God basically into oblivion? Mormonism tries to answer a lot of this, granted using nothing but hypothesis, speculation, and bogus scriptures to do so, but still…

I’m rambling, I’ll just say the idea of man progressing for eternity and ruling over their own worlds doesn’t sound that crazy to me. It’s more in line with 21st Century thought than the traditional idea that humans on earth are God’s unique creation and the apple of God’s eye.

No Christian believes that we will lose our identities in heaven or just sit around singing hymns for eternity. That is the straw-man that the Mormons put forth to discredit Christianity, but Christians have never believed that.

The bible does say, though, that the saints sing God’s praises continually. I personally think that is a metaphore for glorifying God in whatever way He has planned for us to do that.

Funny how we sometimes trivialise Heaven within the strictures of our finite thought processes. I thought we were born for one reason? To know Him, to love Him and to serve Him, so that when time gives way to eternity we may be with Him forever.
If you are wondering how we will spend time forget about that.
Time does not exist in that realm, only the eternal now.

Let’s hope that we live this life in sanctity, for it is the only one we have to determine where we will each spend forever. If you hold your finger above a burning candle for 10 seconds you know what pain is all about. Then imagine being in hell and feeling the unquenchable flames burning your soul not for just 10 seconds but forever. Then think about the loss of the Beative Vision of God.

We need to go out there in the world and not only try to save our own souls and our loved ones but anyone else who is in need of God’s mercy and love. He is also a God of justice, He can not deceive or be deceived. We indeed send ourselves to hell. Heaven must be earned and for us Catholics much has been given to us and much is expected.

If anyone believes that heaven is a place that we automatically go to after death then we are all saints. Just look at the secular world today, it is not only dieing spiritually but physically.
