Mormons and the Bible

Ha, ha.

There was no Catholic Church in the days of Saul. What Christ actually said or didn’t say is unknown. All we know is what the biblical author claimed was said. Christ Himself is silent on the matter.
So you think “the biblical author” lied? For the record, we Catholics believe “the biblical author” to be The Holy Spirit. He does not lie.

Another Mormon dissing the bible. It is always their first impulse. Why are we surprised?

But here is the point. The Rcc never claimed the bible had all of the teachings of Christ. As a matter of fact we know it does not. We have oral and tradition and written scripture.
Then we agree that the Bible does not contain all of God’s words.
And how can you proclaim that God does not require a perfect institution to achieve his claims.
Because I believe that God is achieving His aims and there in no perfect institutions on earth. The only solution is that God can achieve His aims without a perfect institution. It a simple math problems.
What do you consider the Catholic Church it is the living Christ. Jesus and his Church cannot be separated. How makes you think you can separate them when Christ himself said they are one.
As much as I like the Catholic Church, I don’t think it is authorized by God to act in His name. Nor do I believe that Christ has ever said that Himself and the RCC are one. Think about it for a moment. Not trying to be offensive here but consider the great iniquity committed by the RCC historically. If you argue that Christ is one with the RCC, then you must mathmatically be arguing that Christ committs iniquity.

Go back and read my post. I am sure you know already that I said that Christ has never publically gone on the record. He hasn’t. We have the word of Biblical authors, none of whom likely ever met Christ.

It is not honest to claim that I said that the Biblical authors lied.

If you are going to post with me, I require you to be honest. Don’t mistate what I said and don’t post childish insults.

I am a former Mormon, now happily Catholic.
For someone who claims to have been Mormon, you either don’t know much about Mormons or if what you claim about Mormons comes from your own personal experience, thank heaven I don’t know any Mormons like you.

I,. and those I associate with, would never say the horrible things about the Bible you claim for us.If that’s what you believed when you were LDS, then I am sad for the example you set.

Code:
You have to acknowledge, though that the apostles were accustomed to "handing on tradition" orally...If someone had an account of Christ's words, it was very likely to be an ACCURATE account... Not to mention that while not all of the writers of the gospels personally KNEW Christ...part of the requirement for scripture to be accepted into the cannon by the council was that it had to be proven as coming through the apostles...
And though many of the original apostles did not write the texts themselves, the ones actually putting the words on parchment would have been TAUGHT BY the apostles:)

We do have very accurate gospels from Mathew, John, and Luke… and thanks to the council we know that Mark’s account is also straight from Mark, even though an author was not cited.

The Holy Spirit very much DID guide the council in determining which books were inspired, and which where not. If the Holy Spirit can sort out the cannon, then I’d wager making sure the words of our Lord were accurate came easily as well:)
It is not honest to claim that I said that the Biblical authors lied.

Is this the post you had in mind?
Ok, Peter is the first Pope the Catholic Church. Then Linus then… Till Pope Benidict XVI. Now you may argue that claim and say it never happened but why would anyone make this up.
That’s tradition, not history. nuff said.
If this great apostasy did occur, its the greatest farce of all time. The book of Mormon is anti mormon. Yes, i said it and now ill tell you why. catholic.com/library/problems_with_the_book_of_mormon.asp
Yawn. I don’t much get excited about that kind of pedestrian claptrap. This is a thread about the Bible. Try and focus.
Ok, so you read that and now you realized you want to become Catholic. Go to your local church and sign up for RCIA
I am a leader in a large Catholic non-profit ministry. Our Medical Director is LDS. The CEO is LDS. We all love or appreciate the RCC but have no desire to leave The Church of Jesus Christ, LDS.

Matthew, Peter, John, James and Jude never met Christ? You don’t believe that Paul met Jesus in a personal visit as recorded in Acts? Are you sure you want to stick with that position?
It is not honest to claim that I said that the Biblical authors lied.
You stated that they attributed to Jesus things that he didn’t say. Do you really believe that? I guess as a Mormon you are obligated to see the bible as being full of error. After all, bible error is an important part of your religion, as we’ve quoted above.
If you are going to post with me, I require you to be honest. Don’t mistate what I said and don’t post childish insults.
I didn’t misstate what you said. Maybe you said something you didn’t mean to say. I hope that is the case.

Ok where to start. Obviously you TOTALLY MISSED THE POINT. Ok now try and focus this time. Now since your Religion is totally and completely off base as i outlined in my previous post, this conversation is useless. Your religion is a farce so your beliefs on the Bible dont matter. Did you get all that? I guess you can stay LDS if you like being lied to, your call.

Apparently Jesus lived in a vacuum, where no one ever met, spoke, or were taught by Him. Same for the Apostles. The Jesus they never met or spoke to never gave them instructions to teach what they had been taught. And they were so unimpressed with their not knowing Jesus that they just sat around and died with the great secret of what they never knew or Who they never met.

Then some guy came around 1800 years and rewrote what they never knew about Who they never met because he was actually there and did meet Jesus and was taught by Him and walked for days on end in His ministry and ate countless meals with Him, and so this guy restored what the Apostles never knew, about Who they never met, and were so disinterested that they failed their Lord and Master, their God, miserably.

good thing ol’ joe set it all to rights

Are you joking? If so im laugh really really really hard. The Catholic Church was founded my Peter and Saul (Paul) was persecuting that Church so when Paul converted he what, started his own sect? No, he joined Peter which is evident in the pages of the Bible and history. .

Ok, that is very clear so i propose a new question. Why do people believe this stuff???
It was not called the Catholic Church. There was a church but it wasn’t called Catholic. That is my point.

OK well you obviously are so brainwashed that you believe that.
I am sorry the RCC believes what Jesus said when he give us free will. If the first Church was not the CC what would you say it was called. Because Peter started the RCC and Jesus gave him the Keys to the kingdom. And Jesus called Peter the Rock, now did we miss something and did Jesus have someone else start a Church before Peter? What did he do put the Apostles on hold or something?

Im sure that what you said disagrees with me. I believe that the RCC is rightand LDS is wrong.

Please back up your statements

No, he joined Peter which is evident in the pages of the Bible and history. So, why would Jesus send the Apostle AND the disciples the Holy Spirit and give Peter the keys of Heaven and His Church if He was just going to take it back… If you haven’t noticed, God normally doesn’t take things. Since some Disciples were present at Pentecost and they too were given the gifts of the Holy Spirit wouldn’t they have to die off for the “Great Apostasy” to occur? He gives gives gives, especially in the New Testament. Lets apply Occam’s Razor here. You say God gave some people His priesthood but then took it away and gave it to a man with questionable morals who then used golden tablets and majic glasses to interpret them but did a bad job at it and changes had to be made about everything from grammar to your stance on blacks. Also you say a great civilization was in the Americas but there evidence is just waiting to be found but your church has spent millions and yet there is no such evidence. Or on my side, God gave His priesthood and didn’t take it away and there is one true church, the Catholic Church.

Ok, that is very clear so i propose a new question. Why do people believe this stuff???

i posted this earlier. Take a look

I didn’t claim anything, I just quoted your scriptures, prophets and apostles.

See this post and this one to refresh your memory.

If you don’t accept the anti-bible teachings of your General Authorities, I am very happy for it.

I too Paul can’t wait to hear the response to questions. Bet we don’t get one.
