I wonder if the Mormons talked about any of their nonsense about Planet Kolob, not to mention the vastly unsavory lives of Joseph Smith and the other early Mormon leaders, and the fact that they don’t believe Jesus Christ is the only God. Why do people address them with a straight face as a ‘church’?

I was not referring to the whole article. I was referring to the section on baptism that you had quoted. I see that as being conciliatory to LDS.

i chalk this up to interpretation. often we see what we want to see in the written word. That is true of the Scriptures, and also true of newspaper articles. no importante!
For your information, we refused to acknowledge Catholic baptism long before they decided to not recognize our baptisms. So we seem to be one step ahead of them on that score.

I don’t know if they have or not. We also think that Catholicism is Apostate. That makes us even I guess.

As for the Trinity, sure we believe in the Trinity—except that we believe in the Trinity of the Bible, not the Trinity of post Apostate Christendom

It has been said that, if Jospeh Smith was right, then the Gates of Hell really have prevailed against the Church. However, I don’t think he was right, because Jesus promised that that would never happen!!! :extrahappy:

Thanks be to God!!!

:kissme: Kathy :irish2:

AW!!! They have given up polygamy and American Natives are degenerate Jews and Kolob and Quakers on the moon, surely they can redefine the Trinity and abandon the man=God doctrines, too. :ehh: They claim their religion is fluid, let them prove it. Right now they are running from the 1880 FLDS time capsule. 😃

That’s a shame - I always thought “Kolob” was somehow a very appropriate name 🙂

**So what is “da truf” about the Lamanites ? Didn’t they go black after all, or has the “skin of blackness” been lifted, or Botoxed, or what ? **

**Because those people are putting diploacy above truth ? Or maybe they really can see no difference between a religion which believes in a God Who is Pure Spirit - & one which maintains that there are countless evolving gods, each one with a very active sex life. If so, we are in an unholy mess - & concentrating on how nice Mormons are won’t get us out of it. **

I have to say I am glad the LDS attended because it shows they are willing to play nicely with others, but I do find it rather odd that the LDS claimed they were invited while the Catholic Church says the LDS asked to be included. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and it really is a very silly thing to lie about. I cannot imagine what either side would have to gain by lying.
Dear Ibkc,

I think we should not bother with this little wording game. Perhaps, the LDS asked to participate, and the RCC agreed. Then the RCC invited the LDS, and the LDS felt being invited. The way I see that both the Catholics and the LDS church leaders are opening each other hearts under the guidance of the Holyspirit. That should be a good sign of communications for both the Catholics and the Mormons. We should take this as a good momentum for future cooperation with the mormons. Things done together under the spirit of cooperation (not competition) should yield better results.

LOL Given the Cherokee mess, some of them appear to have gone white. I sincerely believe that there is Viking DNA hidden in some tribes, and I pray that it might be found. Seems to me that if the color of a person’s skin has something to do with the condition of a person’s soul, the phrase “white devils”, applied to some LDS, should have some validity.

Right. Early LDS were usually uneducated. Now that they are getting edumaketed they are realizing how many discrepancies there are between their book and other teachings and reality. They have only two choices. Adapt or die out. And the Catholic Church has some of the information that will allow them to adapt.:bowdown2: :highprayer:
There’s another reason for the high attrition rate ~ especially among new converts. It’s so high that I remember once hearing years ago they were forming committees devoted to retention. But high attrition is also attributable to how the Mormons get individuals & sometimes even whole families in with the whole “families are forever” thing, and sometimes do it rather quickly. Then people are scooped up into the whole Mormon lifestyle and activities, and it seems to take over their whole life. Only later does some of the really wacky theology and history come out. Many fall away at this point. Often those that stay do so for the social reasons, not spiritual.

Those that are looking for a real spiritual home are often disappointed and have to leave. I’ve had this discussion with my son a few times. One of the things we like about our Church is that it makes sense.

I thought the explanation of Catholics not accepting Mormon baptisms was quite delicate and diplomatic, as was the Mormon explanation.

In that case, it would be the LDS who are using the misleading language, then. What a surprise. Lehl’s post below explains the rationale pretty well: “See, we were at an ecumenical prayer gathering with the Pope! That means other people consider us Christian!” It’s kind of like how why me thinks that knowing the term “Tridentine mass” makes him authentically Catholic.
Muslims in our city work with ecumenical groups. Interestingly, these groups will not meet at an LDS church building, at least not around here, but I’ve seen Muslims in meetings in our parish administrative building working on community issues. I strongly suspect that working together for the community’s welfare doesn’t make those Muslims “Christians” either. 😃 They might even object !!

There is a huge difference in how the CC and the LDS precieve the “effects” of baptism. The CC believes baptism in the christian church lasts forever. LDS believe that if a member leaves their church, the effects of baptism are taken away. If an x member wishes to rejoin the LDS faith, he/she must be re-baptised.

Until LDS stop trying to “openly” convert every other faith to theirs, (sending missionaries to the vatican as well as to our door step), any co-mingling is only done for sheer publicity. They are working very hard right now to fit into the main stream and want to be considered chrisitan. Go to the new and revised LDS.org and you will see that there are new things there. A new part on LDS being christian and all about Jesus Christ.

I think it is good that LDS come to our celebrations, however it is really just to find out what we do so that they can defend their way, not to be part of our faith. Two young men were recently at a Mass in our church. A few days later they were at my door trying to convert me. They could see the statues of Mary on our patio and St. Francis in our flower garden. They had gone to Mass to get amunition for their teaching.

My husband is x Mormon. When we first met, he told me that if LDS was not the true church, then the Catholic Church had to be.
He joined the CC four years ago Easter.

LDS will not be main stream shristian anytime soon.

probably right, but they seem to be moving in that direction. You pointt out the revisions at their web site, and the article about Jesus, which I read awhile back. I think whyme linked over to that to show how very Christian they are, as I recall.

There’s an article today at NYTimes.com aobut the FLLDS sect and how they are a frozen carcass of the LDS from around 1870. I suspect this is true. and if it is, then comparing the FLDS as they are today, acepting that they have morphed quite a bit over the decades in their selfimposed isolation, we can get a view, a little distorted perhaps, of what the LDS looked like back in the late 19th century.

no one alive today has a memory of what the LDS was like in those days. But the FLDS is like a dug up dinosaur, amazingly preserved, which gives us a look. it shows us how much the LDS have mainstreamed themselves. And that process continues. LDS in those days did not wish to be considered Christains, so I am told. Nowadays LDS strive mightily to be called Christian and take deep offense whenever anyone suggests they are not Christians.

So i think they are on the way. It may take another 20 or 30 years, maybe even longer. I’m old and sure not to witness the final disintegration, unless Dr. Monsoon or one of his successors takes it upon himself to get a revelation that they should all join up with us, in which case it could happen almost overnight. good thing to pray for!

The sooner the better,
given the abuse
that has been heaped on the heads
of the descendants of those
who lopped off the head of LDS leadership,
only to see worse take its place.
Downright scary,
once I understood what the problem was. :bigyikes:
