Yes of course, Mary conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ developed as any other human would. Speaking of sperm and egg is not something that is really done, however no human male, namely Joseph, contributed anything to Jesus Christ’s humanity. However that does not mean that God did not create sperm within Mary, however that’s just me speculating, I’m not saying anything officially Catholic on that issue, from what I’m aware of.
ThuriferAcolyte,
Thanks for this clarity.

I think the LDS position (which I don’t think was represented correctly by Orson Pratt or presented very well on this topic by BRM) is clearly that there was a conception that originated from a divine origin on the one side and a human origin on the other side of the union that was the begotten physical body that began to form through the normal growth (cell division) process of a baby in the womb. I agree with Dianaiad that the Baby Jesus had a virgin Mother (clearly taught in both the Bible and the Book of Mormon) and therefore there was no physical contact that would have changed her virginity (of course), and such a conception was of course possible for God to bring about to provide His offspring to this world to save us, redeem us, and have power over death so that He could provide each of us with a physical resurrection.

For others reading, elders quorums in the LDS church are not a good place to assume one is hearing correct doctrine, especially on speculative topics. Whether so and so heard such and such in an elders quorum class holds about as much weight for doctrinal accuracy as a feather.

Nancy, you don’t have to prove to me that you believe that Christ has a physical body, or that Catholicism teaches this. I am very aware of that. I am simply telling you that I have been debating with Christians of many different beliefs for close to half a century now, and almost every one of the evangelistic Christians (and a few Catholics) argue that He does NOT have a body. I think it is because they slide into modalistic thought.

You don’t have to convince ME that He has one. I agree that He does!

Bill,
Thanks for offering a round of laughter.🙂

Supposing you have an ancestor who lived in the 14th century who really, truly was desiring to love God with all of their heart, but felt they were lacking in some of the true covenants of the gospel as taught be Christ and the apostles. That ancestor died without a complete knowledge of the saving gospel and without making the full covenants that would bind them to Christ and also bind them to their family whom they also loved just as they loved God. Does God punish that ancestor by saying in essence, “Too bad, so sad for you”? No. He instead says, "The perfect plan I ordained before the creation of this earth, provides that Christ goes to the spirit world and teaches the covenant gospel to the spirits of the dead so they can choose if they wish to have the fullness of joy and peace that the gospel offers, and can receive the essential ordinances and covenants of that gospel, by the earthly ordinances that are “bound on earth” so that those ordinances are “bound in heaven.”

If that ancestor makes that choice, then someone like you or one of their many other descendants, comes to a realization of how much they love those ancestors of theirs, and enables the ordinances to be performed (“bound”) on earth for them. After that, if that ancestor did indeed choose that saving gospel, then they receive the Holy Spirit and begin a very long process of learning and changing their attitudes about people, about how to love and forgive and have faith, and about how God’s power unfolds in the universe through the free agency He has given to His children.

If after all of that, that ancestor still accepts the grace Christ has offered and desires to have the kind of unselfishness and love for everyone that Christ showed in His ministry, and desires to inherit the joint throne Christ has offered because of His love and grace, then that ancestor will be raised up in the resurrection to a body that is qualified to become like Christ someday in the far, far future, hopefully surrounded by other loved ones who have also made those choices. That is what is meant by “enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

As long as he has a relative that will do the work for him, and he accepts that work, and has lived his life in tune with the truths he knew while he was here, and has faith, and…

Oh, yeah, then he can become an ‘heir and joint-heir’ with Christ and be like Him. yep.

Eventually everyone will have the chance to accept or reject that, we believe.

What does it pay per/hour for that kind of work?

Is that why Romney thinks he might be President someday? Please let Romney know to include in his next speech - how to become a God.

LOL!

FACT; Humans do not become Gods.

…even Jesus did not become a God (because he already was God( not one of many, but just the one) if that isn’t too hard for you to understand ).

…but many men can easily become dogs…after a couple of beers and margaritas.

I know from first hand experience.

But it’s all good.

Joe Smith loved his beer and wine. He married about 30 women. Too bad for him that several women were already married. Joe got off the hook easily at the Carthage Jail…

This is all find and good but it does not line up with the bible and is wrong,. LDS people could save themselves such bother if they would read carefully the entire 25th chapter of St. Matthew’s gospel. In the last fifteen verses Jesus speaks about the last judgement. There is not even a hint about salvation for those who live wicked lives here on earth. Jesus says there is simply no opportunity for salvation in the next world for such dead spirits. You only go around once. There is no chance to make another decision for Christ after death. It must all be done here in this life. Having oneself baptized for them is of no value.
it just does not work

–From the original Bible? or Joe’s re-written one? LOL.
**Best for mormons to READ ALL OF THIS PAGE FIRST. **

–Quite true. “Baptising” a dead body (the shell) once the soul has left - and the soul leaves the body immediately upon death, means nothing. In fact, it is patently ridiculous.
**Just another one of Joe’s Myth, based in no Christian reality. **

**Meanwhile, any mormon (or anyone interested in learning the complete fallacies of mormonism) should read HERE. **

I see.

So…everybody who was ever born before Jesus was is burning in hell.
All non-Christians are burning in hell.
All Christians who are not the RIGHT sort of Christian are burning in hell.

???

Another persistent Mormon lie. That is not what the bible teaches and that is not what Catholics believe.

Paul.

First, I wasn’t making a statement. I was asking a question…notice all the question marks? I was asking for clarification to Bill Pick’s statement. Because, frankly, that’s certainly what it looked like he said.

So…since Bill made the statement, and Bill is a Catholic, does this make it, not 'another persistent Mormon lie," but rather 'another persistent Catholic lie?"

???

Hey, I’m not the one categorizing statements of beliefs as “persistent lies.” Those are your words. If you don’t want them used against you, don’t use them first.

Bill,
So I take it that either you think Peter didn’t know what he was writing about when he said that Christ visited the spirits in prison and that the gospel was preached to the dead (1 Peter 3:19-20 and 4:6), or that you think Christ was wasting His time and effort to have done that. I take it that you think John did not write the words of Jesus when he wrote, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live…Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice…” (John 5:25, 28)

Should I be suprised that you don’t believe these Biblical verses so plain to understand? Not at all–I think you have not been taught very well from the Bible itself, or haven’t read it. I think your fear toward God, and the fear you attempt to foster in others, is based on the very poor teachings you have received as a means of controlling your life. Fear need not be the basis of your decision-making about religious truths. That is not what God intended, but it succeeds in the minds of some to inhibit bad behavior. There are better motives in the true gospel–the motives Paul and Peter and the Savior taught about.
