MORMONS (LDS) what is this "great apostasy" that you claim to have happened?

So how exactly did the catholic church “loose” the keys to the kingdom due to a “great apostasy”?🤷
Christianity ceased to exist after the death of the Twelve Apostles?
According to the LDS Church manual Gospel Principles,
“One by one, the Apostles were killed. Because of the persecution, surviving Apostles could not meet to choose and ordain men to replace those who were dead. Eventually, local priesthood leaders were the only ones who had authority to direct the scattered branches of the Church. The perfect organization of the Church no longer existed, and confusion resulted. More and more error crept into Church doctrine, and soon the destruction was complete. The period of time when the true Church no longer existed on earth is called the Great Apostasy” (Gospel Principles, p.105, emphasis theirs).

Yes, that is all you have; something you hope is the Holy Spirit. You don’t have history, science or reason. History says one thing, your Holy Spirit says another.
There are plenty of scientists and archeologists that say the Old Testament is mythology and false and doesn’t match archeological chronology.

That argument doesn’t hold up for me.

It sounds to me from these comments that some Catholics believe that Christ would not and could not call more apostles than the ones He called while He was living. Christ never said that, nor did any of the apostles. The apostles were called by Christ to be sent into “all the world” to testify of Him and teach what He had taught. Did they make it into all the world?
I believe God still reveals scripture and knowledge to people.
I also believe it perfectly logical that God would have his church organized with apostles now as he did before.

I also believe it weird that so many people are paranoid and afraid of THE LDS church, when its three fold mission is nothing short of beneficial to society and mankind. The Church promotes Christian values and morality, faithful marriages, honesty hard work, and Traits of JESUS CHRIST. Why people are threatened and paranoid of that is beyond me.

To disagree is one thing but to be a fear monger and enveloped in paranoia and preach that such works of Christ Traits is evil is totally illogical? They place more emphasis in my observation on their interpretation of scripture than the “fruit” and the works and Christ like living, which I think members of any denomination are capable of. I don’t care if you believe in Catholic doctrine or otherwise as much as I care that we work together in principles and Traits of Christ. But if you preach fear against such Christ like living then how can you be a follower of Christ?

Just curious, why do you think Paul was annoyed by the possessed girl who was following him and the others around crying out, “These men are servants of the most high God and they proclaim to you a way of salvation.”? (Acts 16:16-18)

Was the LDS Jesus born of the Virgin Mary?
Code:
The Bible teaches that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. This means that Mary had no sexual relations with any man prior to the birth of Jesus.
Likewise, the Mormon church also maintains that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. However, there is quite an interesting array of Mormon authorities who have said some very interesting things about the relationship between God and Mary in regards to Jesus’ birth. Let’s take a look at some of them and see what we find:
Brigham Young, second prophet and president of the LDS church said,
“The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood—was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers,” (Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 115).
Brigham Young also said, “Now, remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, p. 51).
Brigham Young said, “When the time came that His first-born, the Saviour, should come into the world and take a tabernacle, the Father came Himself and favoured that spirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it. The Saviour was begotten by the Father of His spirit, by the same Being who is the Father of our spirits,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, 1857, p. 218).
Joseph Fielding Smith, stated
“The birth of the Savior was a natural occurrence unattended with any degree of mysticism, and the Father God was the literal parent of Jesus in the flesh as well as in the spirit,” (Religious Truths Defined, p. 44, as cited in the book, Mormonism: Shadow or Reality, by Gerald and Sandra Tanner, Utah Lighthouse Ministry, P.O. Box 1854, Salt Lake City, Utah 84110, bookstore at 1350 South West Temple, 1982, p. 260).
Joseph Fielding Smith said, “They tell us the Book of Mormon states that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Ghost. I challenge that statement. The Book of Mormon teaches no such thing! Neither does the Bible.” (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p. 19).
Bruce McConkie, who was a member of the First Council of the Seventy stated,
“Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers,” (Mormon Doctrine, 1966, p. 547).
“And Christ was born into the world as the literal Son of this Holy Being; he was born in the same personal, real, and literal sense that any mortal son is born to a mortal father. There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events,…Christ is the Son of Man, meaning that his Father (the Eternal God!) is a Holy Man.” (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, p. 742).
Heber C. Kimball who was a member of the first presidency said,
“In relation to the way in which I look upon the works of God and his creatures, I will say that I was naturally begotten; so was my father, and also my saviour Jesus Christ. According to the Scriptures, he is the first begotten of his father in the flesh, and there was nothing unnatural about it.” (Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 211).
“The man Joseph, the husband of Mary, did not, that we know of, have more than one wife, but Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband,” (Deseret News, October 10, 1866, as cited in the book, Mormonism: Shadow or Reality, by Gerald and Sandra Tanner, Utah Lighthouse Ministry, P.O. Box 1854, Salt Lake City, Utah 84110, bookstore at 1350 South West Temple, 1982, p. 261).
What conclusions can we draw from the words of the leaders of the Mormon church regarding Jesus’ birth?

  1. *]It was the result of natural action, (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 115).
*]Jesus was not begotten by the Holy Ghost," (Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, p. 51); (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p. 19).
*]“The Father came Himself and favoured that spirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it,” (Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, 1857, p. 218).
*]The birth was the result of natural action, (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115).
*]“The Father God was the literal parent of Jesus in the flesh as well as in the spirit,” (Religious Truths Defined, p. 44).
*]“Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers,” (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, 1966, p. 547).
*]“There is nothing figurative about his [Jesus’] paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events,” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 742).

Remember, according to Mormon teaching the Holy Ghost is a male personage, a man. (Le Grand Richards, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, Salt Lake City, 1956, p. 118; Heber C. Kimball, in Journal of Discourses, vol. 5, p. 179).
The Father, who is God, is also in the form of a man (Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3; and Doctrine and Covenants, 130:22).

** The Plain Truth about the Mormons
**
The Mormon people of today are highly respected in our society, but there is nothing respectable about their doctrines. Some are as follows:
The Deity of Man Promoted
Mormons teach that man can become God, and that God was once a man:
“God himself, the Father of us all, is a glorified, exalted immortal resurrected man!” (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 322-23, 517, 643)
“…God himself was once as we are now and is an exalted man and sits enthroned in yonder heavens…” (Journal of Discourses, V6, P3, 1844)
“As man is, God once was: as God is, man may become.” (Lorenzo Snow, quoted in Milton R. Hunter, the Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 105-106)
This is plain and simple heresy. Nowhere does the Bible say or imply that God was ever a man, or that man can become God! Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the LORD, I change not…” How could this be true if God was once a man? Genesis 1:1 states that God existed “in the beginning” before man was ever created. John 4:24 states that God is a “spirit,” and Jesus tells us in John 1:18 that no man has seen God at any time. Numbers 23:19 says that “God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent.” God has always been God, and no one has ever “become” God.
Deity of Jesus Christ Denied
The Deity of Jesus Christ is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity, yet the Mormons deny this truth. Exalting man to “god status” is apparently alright, but Jesus Christ is not acknowledged as the eternal Son of God in the Mormon church. The Mormon Jesus was a preexisting spirit who was exalted, just as Mormon followers hope to be exalted someday.
God is a Trinity (I Jn. 5:7), and the second Member of that Trinity is the Lord Jesus Christ. John 1:1 says that “the Word was God,” and John 1:14 tells us that “the Word was made flesh.” Jesus Christ is the Word incarnate, and John 1:1 tells us that the Word was God; so Jesus Christ is God.
Jesus allowed Thomas to address Him as “My Lord and my God” in John 20:28. In Isaiah 9:6, He is called “The mighty God” and “The everlasting Father,” and we read in Micah 5:2 that Jesus is “from everlasting.”
Our Lord allowed people to worship him in John 10:38 and in Matthew 14:33, and since He is “God with us” (Mat. 1:23) He also has power to forgive sins (Mk. 2:5). Jesus Christ is clearly Deity, yet this doctrine is denied by the Mormons.

True Church Theory
The Mormon book, The Pearl of Great Price, claims that all other Christian groups are “corrupt” and are an “abomination” in God’s sight (Joseph Smith, 2:19). Such claims as this are based on the unscriptural assumption that the Lord Jesus Christ has a specific religious organization on the earth today, complete with a name, a membership, and a leadership, which makes up His “true church.” This doctrine is found nowhere in God’s word. Everyone who has received Christ as their Saviour is a member of His church, which is a spiritual body of born-again believers (Eph. 4:4; 5:23-32; Col. 1:18-24; Heb. 12:23; Rev. 19:7; 5:9-10; 21:9).
Other False Teachings
The Mormons deny the Trinity and the existence of a literal burning Hell, yet they promote polytheism (many gods), baptism for the dead, and the notion that Jesus and Satan were originally spirit brothers! Friend, make no mistake about it–Mormonism is a dangerous cult. In the eyes of man, the Mormons seem very respectable, but the light of God’s word reveals the true wolves behind the sheep clothing. Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Mat. 7:15) Don’t look at their nice families, their clean-cut hair, and their friendly “missionaries.” LOOK AT THEIR DOCTRINES! (I Tim. 4:1)
There is no way to cover all of the Mormon heresies in a tract this size. For further reading, we recommend our publication, The Bible Believer’s Handbook of Heresies, which sheds light on many of the heresies being taught today in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

“As man is, God once was: as God is, man may become.” (Lorenzo Snow, quoted in Milton R. Hunter, the Gospel Through the Ages, pp. 105-106)
This makes perfect sense to me. I love my children and I want the best for them, my hope is to teach them and have them become as least as good as I am and to be able to love and bless others. I am not a parent who sees myself as a dictator who wants my children to always be less than and never equal to me. That is how I feel as a loving father. Maybe other parents don’t feel that way? I can’t speak for them, but for me how else could my father in heaven be any different? To be a God or to be like God is the desire to promote freedom and righteousness and it is the ability to choose love. Why would A God in Heaven want his children to be like him? It is unconditional love is it not?

This is plain and simple heresy. Some believe this, I am not one of them.Nowhere does the Bible say or imply that God was ever a man, or that man can become God! “So no one saw the finger of God?”
The Deity of Jesus Christ is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity, yet the Mormons deny this truth. Exalting man to “god status” is apparently alright, but Jesus Christ is not acknowledged as the eternal Son of God in the Mormon church. (I Tim. 4:1) **So you don’t like that our doctrine teaches us to have nice families, clean cut hair and friendly people? That makes us dangerous? I am beyond confused on how you made such a conclusion? I know some very nice Catholics that are clean cut and friendly, yet I don’t agree with their doctrine and interpretations but I wouldn’t call them dangerous or a members of a cult. I find people from different faiths can accomplish a lot together if they put more effort into their similarities and work together on what they agree on than attacking others beliefs and differences. **

Can we agree to disagree?

The bottom line is:
mormonism is a false religion, invented by a false “prophet.” following false doctrines and practicing occult, secret ceremonies vainly lying to gullible people by telling them that these secret ceremonies will somehow bring them to salvation. A bigger pack of lies you have never seen. mormonism has been refuted at every hand on these very forums and in countless places elsewhere, as well as by legitimate scholars, and yet, we still have TBMs coming here in the vain attempt to convince us that there is even a speck of truth in their manufactured religion. Good luck. I am not anti-mormon, I am anti-lying. My BS detector is set on low, but it goes off every time a mormon posts.

And the same for jw’s.

There are plenty of scientists and archeologists that say the Old Testament is mythology and false and doesn’t match archeological chronology.

I also believe it perfectly logical that God would have his church organized with apostles now as he did before.

I believe that there will always be people gullible enough to believe in some quack who claims to have been visited by angels, Jesus and the rest of the heavenly host. They will always be with us. They believed Jim Jones, David Koresh, Marshall Applewhite (Heaven’s Gate) and all the others who laid claim to visits and being prophets.

I also believe it weird that so many people are paranoid and afraid of THE LDS church, when its three fold mission is nothing short of beneficial to society and mankind. AH, the old “FEAR” card!! They must teach that to you in Mormon school. Is it working?
You bet it is!. I lie in fear every night thinking of Mormons taking over the world, entraping gullible people and spreading a false gospel spawned by a false prophet. FEAR!

Well again that argument is based on your opinion and beliefs. So called " legitimate scholars" have also stated THE OLD TESTAMENT to be false and mythology.

You can get offended by my beliefs but I don’t have a problem with knowing your interpretations are only proven correct in you mind.

You obviously don’t know much about our history. It does have history we just disagree on doctirine.

I don’t agree with Orthodoxy either it originates from the meaning “correct Hunches” of the “universal” religion.

We agree to disagree.

My information is based on fact, not opinion. mormon history is too recent not to be well known. Nearly ever since it’s invention, the mormon “church” has been very busily striving to conceal the inconvenient facts of it’s origins and living in fear that new documents revealing the shenanigans perpetrated by Joseph Smith might be discovered. Your religion is based on the lies and fantasies of an upstate New York farmboy, whose tall tales got away from him.

Well again that argument is based on your opinion and beliefs. So called " legitimate scholars" have also stated THE OLD TESTAMENT to be false and mythology.

All Mormons when caught between a rock and a hard place attack the bible.

You can get offended by my beliefs but I don’t have a problem with knowing your interpretations are only proven correct in you mind

We don’t get offended with your beliefs, we feel sorry for anyone who decides to follow a false religion established by any man. " His" interpretations are not his personally but come from the Church that Jesus established 2,000 years ago and have the word of Truth.

.

👍 Well said!
Everything that needs to be said about the tissue of lies that mormonism has already been said. For mormons to come on a Catholic forum and attempt to explain a huge maze of lies and heresies, including a so-called “Great Apostacy” is both rude and offensive, especially contrasted against the vast load of horse manure that mormons are compelled to believe(sorry, but I’m just a country boy) Get a clue mormons, we’ve heard it all before.
