Read “Joseph Smith, Rough Stone Rolling” by Richard Lyman Bushman. I think you will find a fair and balanced view of the story, and will find he does not cover up anything in explaining exactly what happened in Mormon History. It is a very good book. I have read a lot of Anti-Mormon books and find them to be filled with half-truths that are twisted to the hatred felt by the writer.
It is easy to believe half Truths when you never read the truth.
What half-truths are you talking about? That there were no women or children killed at Haun’s Mill, which is just a stone’s throw from where I live? Or are you referring to the burning out and plundering of the apostate LDS in Davies county at the hands of the Danites, who were undoubtedly acting on the orders of Joseph Smith or Sydney Rigdon. Or are referring to the sacking of Gallatin, or the sworn statements by ex-lds that the Mormons were planning to burn both Richmond and Liberty, Missouri? Or are you referring to the incident where a group of Mormons attacked a contigent of Missouri Militia at Crooked River? Or are you referring to Zion’s Camp, when a mob led by Joseph Smith from Kirtland, Ohio attempted to take(redeem) Jackson County by force? They only turned back because they were warned by the Clay County Sheriff and because of outbreaks of Cholera among Smith’s followers. These are not half-truths; these are facts.
What you need to read is Stephen LeSeur’s ‘The 1838 Mormon War in Missouri.’ If you bother to read it, you’ll see that it there was enough blame to go around and that both sides contributed to that tragic era of Missouri history.
I have been 8 years married to a Mormon and have never seen any of the horrendous things that Mormons are portrayed to practice and believe.
Well, if you’re referring to doctrines such eternal progression, and baptism of the dead, I don’t know what to tell you other than you haven’t been paying attention. Other than that, I doubt that you would be privy to the details of Endowment ceremony that occur in the Temple because you aren’t a temple worthy Mormon.
I know many Mormons and have found them to be followers of Jesus Christ to the highest degree in service to their fellowman, member or not, it makes no difference. They are always first responders in any catastrophic event, with food, water, tents, workers, medicine etc.
I don’t see how that’s possible outside of Utah. In my home-state, the predominant faiths are Catholic and Baptist. Odds are most of the first-responders in the catastrophes that we’ve endured were either Catholic or Protestant. However, we don’t have any way of knowing for sure 'cause nobody takes surveys of the first-responders as to what their faith is. They’re too busy helping.
They work hand in hand with Catholic Charities to help people all over the world. If you still hate them then you are not a true Catholic and can not call yourself Christian
.
That’s pretty presumptuous of you to accuse me of hating Mormons and to question my faith. If you believe that someone is acting out of hate against Mormons because they have a different view of the ‘Mormon War’ than you, especially if it’s critical of the Mormons, then that speaks volumes about your narrow-mindedness.
I don’t know of any example of Mormons working ‘hand in hand’ with Catholic Charities. If you know of any examples, please enlighten me.
