Ah, thank you – I’ve always wondered if one had the choice to head into a foreign language community.
no…no choice. You put in your papers, they tell you where you will go

Oh, wow! Now that’s a commitment. Can I ask where you were sent?no…no choice. You put in your papers, they tell you where you will go
Honduras.Oh, wow! Now that’s a commitment. Can I ask where you were sent?
Can I ask, too, if you had any successful conversions during your time as a missionary? I know at least one past missionary who didn’t have one successful experience during his full two years out (he was in a major U.S. city).Honduras.
I was lucky. I knew I did not want to stay in the USA, and I knew I wanted to learn Spanish
um…I baptized people almost every week of my mission. When I left, I held the record for the most baptisms per month in the Mission. The only person with more served 2 years. When I served, they were 18 monthsCan I ask, too, if you had any successful conversions during your time as a missionary? Thanks – I know this isn’t the point of this thread, but I wonder if there’s a difference in the baptism rates for those in major cities in the U.S. (where Mormonism was born) vs. those sent elsewhere.um…I baptized people almost every week of my mission. She damns her church out of her own mouth. How could the Church founded by Christ be an “adolescent religion”?“The Roman Catholic Church has had 2,000 years to work through the hiccups in its history,” said Terryl L. Givens, a professor of English, literature and religion at the University of Richmond and a Mormon believer. “Mormonism is still an adolescent religion".
The baptism rate in Latin America is much higher than in the USA. Part of the reason is that the Missionaries teach a more protestant-sounding faith. They do not teach anything about the true doctrineThanks – I know this isn’t the point of this thread, but I wonder if there’s a difference in the baptism rates for those in major cities in the U.S. (where Mormonism was born) vs. those sent elsewhere.
(And I would say “congrats” on holding the record, but…you know…)
Do those who are baptized as Mormons often not know what Mormonism really is, then? (I mean apart from the truths that aren’t taught by the LDS but can be found online.)The baptism rate in Latin America is much higher than in the USA. no. In fact, if you were to tell them that their God used to be a man, they would tell you NODo those who are baptized as Mormons often not know what Mormonism really is, then? (I mean apart from the truths that aren’t taught by the LDS but can be found online.)
No. In LDS teaching anyone who keeps their own covenants will enter the highest level of the Celestial kingdom regardless of what other members of their family do.Don’t Mormon teachings on the afterlife and the position of one’s family in it make it kind of difficult to navigate a parent, spouse, child, brother, or sister who is labeled as an apostate?
I suppose I’m partially surprised, but then again most of the Catholics in any given parish might describe the Eucharist as symbolic.no. In fact, if you were to tell them that their God used to be a man, they would tell you NO
if you tell them about plurality of gods, they would say NO
If missionaries would teach the true doctrine, they would baptize very few
Thanks for the clarification! No. In LDS teaching anyone who keeps their own covenants will enter the highest level of the Celestial kingdom regardless of what other members of their family do.
No one faithful and true to their covenants will be denied "exhaultation "…
On one of the ex mormon sites I’ve been on some RMs try to get in touch with those they have baptized and apologized for bringing them into the Mormon church.um…I baptized people almost every week of my mission. Really? I was told that Mark Twain said that. I guess it comes to show:Remember, it was Benjamin Disraeli who said, “there are three kinds of lies in the world. Lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

Funny you should ask. I left my mission in Honduras in early 1986. I then went to law school and, after graduation and bar passage, went into the US Army. In 1993, I was stationed in…amazingly enough, Honduras. On one of the ex mormon sites I’ve been on some RMs try to get in touch with those they have baptized and apologized for bringing them into the Mormon church.
Did you ever do that after you lost your testimony?
The only two vandals I’ve known personally were both MormonsThey are kind and generous, loving people… By their fruits you shall know them.
The first two hospitals built in my county were both build by Catholics. There are no Mormon hospitals here. And they show some pretty good fruits.
