Mormons to build temple in Rome

My own thoughts on this are two-fold.

Mormons, on the other hand, usually build their temples in largely affluent, at least middle class, suburbs. They seem to purposely shun any location that has a poorer population, unless the demographics make that impossible.

So, any Mormons who are attracted to live near a mormon temple are those who can afford to move to a generally middle to upper class area, where real estate prices are too high for the poor.

There is no consideration to administer to the poor, sick, etc from a mormon temple. These structures exist only to perform rituals for mormons, and useless rituals for the dead.
The temple is being built to serve the Mormon populations in Italy. It is to make it easier for mormons to visit their temple. In the past, buses needed to be chartered to go to the nearest temple. This took time from the daily lives of the members. Now, it will be more opportune and convient for the lds to go to the temple in that area.

The mormon temple is not built to administer to the poor and the sick. But it is to allow mormons to perform sacred ordinances. But you know that already.

This is not true, at least not from what I am reading what Mormons are saying. Which is, there is not a large enough Mormon population in Rome to support a temple. They fully expect and will encourage Mormons from all over neighboring countries, and other Italian cities, to travel to Rome.
It will serve the mormoms in Italy. 🙂 Many countries have one temple. And that temple serves the people in that country. And if a neighboring country does not have temple, it will serve the lds in that country. For example, the Finnish temple serves not just Finns, but also Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians and Russians. The Stocholm temple serves the people of Sweden, and also a couple of neighboring countries if those countries do not have a temple.

The Finnish case is the best example: if one goes back 20 years ago, the Finnish mormons traveled by bus to Switzerland, which was the nearest temple. It was quite a hike. Then, when the Stockholm temple was built, they took a boat to Sweden, which was much shorter but still it took a whole night sleeping on a boat. And now, the finns go to Helsinki, their capital city.

Now isn’t that nice for the lds in Finland or Sweden? No more trips to Switzerland. 🙂

Bruce R. McConkie was wrong, and the book he wrote that in was condemned by the church. It was a long time before he was allowed to write a later addition, which did not include that particular heresy. Unfortunately, the damage had been done, which is likely why you were taught it on your mission.
I am sure that Prince Hal knows this already. But relating this information as a footnote to his post would take the steam out of his engine. 🙂

I think this is a non-event. The Jehovah’s Witnesses, Hari Krishna and Scientology are already there, so it’s not like they’re bringing anything new.
Plus, as I understand it, a huge Mosque. It is a non-event except if a person is a mormon in Italy.

a self proclaimed chaos mage and a mormon pretending to be catholic… could there be a better example of the fruits of joseph smith’s con? 👍

build those temples anywhere you can buy the land. no one seems to be buying the scam anymore. they are nothing but physical reminders of the laughable “rituals” that attempt to keep mormons bonded to their so called church.

Ok, so clearly some people have some hostile feelings toward the LDS here, but can we at least remember what Jesus taught about love? Sure, we disagree with their doctrine but they are people too.

Yes, it is interesting how people who complain about Jack Chick act so much like him.

In reply to a numbr of posts, LDS leaders and members do not look on the building of a temple as a neutral event simply to serve the LDS population.

Many dignatories will be invited to tour the temple prior to the dedications. Many mormon missionaries will be there to answer questions and to proselyte. When the Preston, England temple was built and I was Bishop, we encouraged all members to get as many of their non-member friends to visit as possible. Why ? To proselyte in the hope that some ould be touched by the “spirit of the temple”. I cannot see how any of this can be disputed. So the only question is this: “What spirit ?” When we review what is done in the temples, then it is gnosticism at best, something else at worse. Covenants are made with signs and handshakes akin to freemasonry and the occult. So, is there a spirit that attends the temple ? mormons say “yes”. I would also say “yes”. But is it the Holy Spirit ? I would say “no”.

God bless,

Hal.

When was the last time an arrogant Catholic came to your home, uninvited and unannounced, to tell you that your faith is wrong and you’ll have to convert to his faith if you want to be with God and your family in eternity? I grew-up listening to the “mother of all whores” garbage from Mormons and the self-righteous hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me when I read posts like yours.

Well many Catholics will convert Mormons when they build those Churches and the Mormon Churches might be converted to Catholic Churches…

Funny, I thought you and self-righteous hypocrisy were good friends.

That’s just my clever way of saying “I know you are but what am I?” You debate slightly worse than PeeWee Herman.

I pray that through God’s grace a greater good may come through this act. I also pray that more LDS will find their way home to God’s church.

You of all people here should know that’s it’s slightly less impossible for me than for why me, by virtue of the way I go about doing it.
Oh, and why is that? I was born catholic and I have no problems in going to Mass. However, on this section of the forum, the catholics can be sooooo arogant toward the lds church that I feel that I need to defend it. As you do too. 🙂

Actually, it is a neutral event. The temple will serve the local members in Italy. Now of course, missionaries will be on hand to discuss the faith during the Open House. It is only natural that they would wish to educate people about the mormon church since there is so much false information out there. But after the open house, the tours will cease and the members will begin to use the temple for sacred purposes. Would it be better if the mormons would build their temples and keep them closed to the public? No. But now the public will have the opportunity to tour a mormon temple and see just what it looks like inside before the dedication.

Truth be told, I tend to be more active in my Catholic parish than my in LDS ward, though that might have something to do with meeting times and my penchant for sleeping in.
As do I. But not because of time schedule. I can feel more at home with the catholics. The ones that I know are nice people, very friendly. And the priests are great. And the nuns too. The catholics that I hang around with are what may be considered to be: super catholics. They go to mass often and are active in the catholic faith.

If your mormon bishop knew you were a baptized Catholic you would be excommunicated from the mormon church. You cannot be both mormon and catholic-- officially.

This could be true. But it might also be left up to the bishop what action he would take. Some may ingnore it, while others may not.

And this is where I and tsuzuki are different. I was christened catholic at birth and joined the lds church. I have always been considered catholic by the RC church since I never resigned my membership.

Apostle Bruce R. McConkie certainly believed the Catholic Church was the great and abominable. As a missionary, I was taught it in my mission. it is not politically correct to speak it now. But then if not the Catholic church to whom does it refer ?

Hal.
The titles church of the devil and great and abominable church are used to identify all churches or organizations of whatever name or nature - whether political, philosophical, educational, economic, social, fraternal, civic, or religious - which are designed to take men on a course that leads away from God and his laws and thus from salvation in the kingdom of God.
