There is an Cathedral in Salt Lake! God is everywhere! Even in the dark occolt state of Utah!
Indeed there is, and you guys have been in Utah since, oh…about four days after Brigham Young entered the valley.
Were you aware that when the area was surveyed, and land was chosen by Brigham Young to be apportioned out, the first plot of land was chosen for the Temple, and before any other assignment was given, plots of land were designated for those of other faiths to build their churches and cathedrals? Only after those plots were designated was land set aside for our own meeting houses, government buildings, farms and homes.
Which is why, by the way, the Catholic Cathedral in SLC has such a nice location, as have the other faiths who have buildings there. Brigham Young actively invited other faiths in, designated prime building spots for them, and sold them the land at very low cost. As in…close to free.
But that’s not something that appears in most anti-mormon pamphlets, for some reason. Now I would like to think it was a lovely gesture of good will and long suffering patience, but understanding Brigham, I think it was more like a “come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly…” sort of thing. However, the parlors offered were very nice, and nobody shot at, tarred and feathered, stole from, raped, beat up or otherwise treated the flies that came to build their churches in Salt Lake City.
As well, the Catholics in SLC work very hard alongside the LDS in almost every aspect of charity endeavors; indeed, when the Catholics need supplies for an instant need somewhere, the LDS church is generally one of the first calls they make. When the LDS church sees a need in a place where they are viewed with suspicion, Rome is one of the first calls THEY make.
Of course, nobody ever mentions that in their little pamphlets ‘exposing’ the evils of the Mormon church.
